Great work Danny...

I don't know if it is too late...some suggestions..
I would definitely look at upgrading your COIL Bracket as the Series II has vented type..see pics, only $25US.

Also I would def suggest you look at upgrading your Oil Pressure, particularly if you are going to track/race, see the thread on this..Mazmart has a kit.

http://www.mazmart.com/ItemDetail.aspx?id=586

EDIT:
Once you have done the OP Mod you can also install the Series II OIL Filter (N3R1-14-302), it is taller though, it will fit but I don't know if Oil Filter would interfere with your Mods?

ash to me that channel is not for cooling. it may be to stiffen the mount and reduce vibration but it wont do much for cooling.

the air in the channel would be still and still air is a great insulator. it would help hold in the heat generated by the coil. it may insulate slightly against heat transfer from the engine but would have a very minor effect compared to the heat transfer from the other contacting surfaces and radiant heat from the engine bay.

No Problem..you are entitled to your theory..

I presented this Bracket to My Local Mazda Service Manager, he contacted MA for me and the results were...

Bending or warping was not an issue in Series I, radiant heat and arcing because of the heat between the Coil Base and the Flat steel bracket was.

In Mazda's wisdom it was agreed the modified Bracket was for Cooling "Loosely", but mainly to help prevent 'direct' radiant engine heat transfer from the bracket to the bottom area known for the coils to "overheat" and expire with or performance degradation noted by the area Service Manager.

BTW: I am trying to get Mazda Australia to agree with a form of communication between our forum users and Alan Horsley, Mazda Australia's Racing Guru over the past 3 decades.

He is very busy ATM with the Targa Tasmania, but I hope I can get him to join this Forum and answer ANY performance Related questions we Rotary Enthusiast may have...

What do you think...Value or Not?

At the risk of hi-jacking Danny's thread, I am sure many people could learn a lot from Horsley but as Timbo says, he's not exactly known for his patience or being chatty. I could imagine it getting messy once the trolls and conspiracy theorists get wind of his involvement...

I don't want to hijack Danny's thread either, but I reckon the chances of getting Mr. Horsley posting here are about as good as Pakistan's were to win the Sydney test match! LOL.

Cheers,
Hymee.

Next step is to get the oil lines between the engine and supercharger drive made up. Even though time on the car has been extremely limited over the past three months, I have made key decisions and acquired more parts.

Cheers,
Danny

I think we will be. It is an integral part of the S/C kit. A much nicer solution for a remote mount oil filter. Think of easier oil filter changes!

Cheers,
Hymee.
