Hey Marley, think i saw you when i overtook you around Papatoetoe and turned off at Silvia park a couple of months back). You didn't happen to go to Strath did you? If so Hi! BTW I'm Simran.
Anyways cats are legal to gut out (most of us have done it), but if you want BHR parts contact Charles directly and he will send it to your door step.
Also to the rest of the Mystery Tour Group (Marley you will want to join this) I'm unable to attend as i just sold my car today , and another rx8 doesn't look to be in my near future.
Just dropped it off two hours ago and already miss the hell out of it.

@XCON we just got a run about car (Toyota blade - corolla alternative)
@Marley - for the last two years around summer a group of us (around 10 cars) would get together and take on some winding roads, talk about our cars with like minded people and just have fun. Its also a good way of finding what your car can do and clean out all the carbon buildup from daily use.
Rotaman and Brettus have organized the last two and they have done an awesome job.
There is some Pictures in here

Thanks alnielsen. I keep seeing on other threads they use synthetic, others mineral or mazda's rx8 recommended oil.I also saw a video on youtube..
Sometimes i get this feeling of doubt on which oil to use.

I'll add one more thing. Mazda sells a synthetic rotary oil in Japan. I've read somewhere, I can't find the source, that the reason that they don't recommend (they don't forbid) the use of synthetic oils, is they don't want to test all the variations of this type of oil.
I use Shell Rotella T6 synthetic oil in both the RX8 and the Jeep. I don't know if that is available to you.
You can use what Mazda recommends in the owners manual. No other oil has been scientifically tested. Every other recommendation will range from an educated guess to it's what my mate uses in his Honda. I don't know who the gentleman is in the video, but he seems to be repeating what he's read here and made his decision.
It's your car and it's your choice.

I only watched the first minute of that video and all I'm going to say is that young guy does not have a clue what he is talking about.
I have been using Synthetic oil in my Rotaries for the past 28 plus years and have never had a problem.
Personally I would not use a 5W-20 weight oil in my RX-8 either, but that is my choice.
This mineral-Synthetic debate should have gone away 20years ago.
The advantages of Synthetic oil are well known and there are no problems with using Synthetic oil in any Rotary engine.
Don't be put off by your lack of knowledge and scaremongering by people who know no better.

Slidin in my RX8 I am using a Sohn adapter now, but when I had my RX2 I didn't, and I used only Synthetic oil in the 13b engine in that for around 25 years. When I first put the 13b into my RX2, I even ran the engine in using Synthetic oil. The downfall with using Synthetic for running an engine in is that it takes a long time for it to free up.
In my RX8 I have used Synthetic oil with and without the Sohn adapter.
Honestly this debate over whether to use Synthetic oil or mineral oil in our cars is nothing to do with what is better, ( although Synthetic is better ) its to do with the American litigation laws, These companies won't recommend Synthetic oil because they are too scared of being sued in court if something goes wrong.
The American laws are crazy. If you really want to check out how crazy some of the laws are in the US, look into what you can and can't do with aircraft. Unfortunately the rest of the world is effected by these stupid laws.
I best be careful what I say, someones likely to sue me for telling the truth.

Ok call me dumb, but I cannot post any new threads anywhere. Trying to get some advice as to what might be wrong with my RX8... it won't start!
I'm hoping someone has some advice (remember I'm female, so type slow and talk simple)

We really need nore info than that. There are a million reasons why it wont start. Have you checked your battery? Did you turn it off with the engine cold?
