Hey Dez

There was a problem with the earliest cars which would have them flashing low oil lights under big throttle or hard cornering. Seems to have been identified some months ago and my car (Sept delivery) shows none of the symptoms ..

I am on the gold coast so if you are interested we could meet up for a drive when you pick up your rx8.

I'd love to go for a cruise L&L, but I have only 3 days to drive back to Darwin. I swapped a shift at work to get an extra day as it is. I cant even justify stopping in Mt Isa for my 1000km service incase they take too long!

Maybe on your next visit , it will be interesting how your rx8 handles the darwin temperatures , as it loves cool strong winds best .
Anyhow i envy the fact that you get to drive your baby all the way back to darwin , heck if it wasnt for family commitments i would join you in the rx8 darwin run , have a safe trip .

G'day again sco,

I've just heard back from my ex about the oil sump baffle fix. Apparently Mazda Aust wont give the dealers (let alone owners) a cut off VIN for the sump fix being fitted at the factory. Individual owners have to ring a dealer to have thier VIN checked to see whether the fix has been fitted or not.

I hope that helps.

NT Rotor Head - I had rung Mazda AU going back a month now regarding the oil sump baffle fix. Mazda wouldn't let me know which VINs were affected and they also stated that they would only replace the oil sumps if owner's complained about the symptoms (ie. low oil warning).

I suspect my VIN is affected (July 03 build) but I've not had any symptoms as yet. As soon as I do - it's going in for the fix.

Pappy, why wait? July 03 means that you definately have one of the defective baffles. It's only a matter of time before you get the light, and when you get it, it's a pain in the ****. I'd be getting it replaced ASAP if for no other reason than you get a free oil change.

Thanks for the Tech highlights CD too! Can't wait to take a look.

DGW - good point. I have been contemplating booking it in for the change - as you say it will only be a matter of time. Will give Mazda a buzz and get it organised.

Pappy.
