Jambos and I arrive on Saturday around 2pm your time... (I hate daylight saving - we leave at 11:15 our time!).. I am a little worried about the Qantas strike rumblings..

Jambos is keen to have a gathering on Saturday night in town...

 

It just occurred to me I've never seen "Groundhog Day" all the way through. I just keep seeing parts...the same parts

 

I've seen and love all films mentioned but particularly Fargo and Amelie (quirky appeals to me).

However, I've always thought it's just too hard to have a single favourite. Art is like food - variety is important and when you get hungry you eat some more.

I've recently been indulging in swapping between spaghetti westerns and the classic japanese samurai films upon which many of them are based (love my old mate Akira).

I'll never look at a woodchipper the same way again!! For us car lovers the scene in the showroom with the "triple coating....you'll want that"......is a classic.

I think if I've got a fave it'd be Billy Madison. Real high-brow drama!

Comedy is very subjective.

I like Adam Sandler - my wife talked me into watching '50 First Dates'. Other than an appreciation of the comedic talents of both Sandler and Barrymore, I had very low expectations. However, I got some great laughs out of that and nearly wet myself when Drew went after Sandler's sidekick (of 'Gigolo' fame) with a golf club.

I also loved 'So I Married an Axe Murderer' - Mike Myers at his best.

Is it just me or do some of you find that when you scroll back up to hit the link back to the forum the web page sometimes jerks a little and you end up hitting the banner ad immediately above that instead?

It's happened to me a few times and I wonder if it's something to do with my mouse control or a feature built into the page to get you to hit the ad by mistake.

Ahh, never mind - the blue devils are strong this week, courtesy of dealing with 4 days of gross intellectual dishonesty from a judge who shall remain nameless.

 

That'd be the spyware put on your PC by the Bar Association at the request of that intellectually dishonest nameless judge

 

I also love what Happy Gilmore did to golf! A game I can't even begin to understand....the other half took me to a driving range and was amazed I could hit a golf ball....well so was I....didn't have the heart to tell him I was aiming at the man in the cart collecting the *****....where ever he was I hit him....it was quite good fun!


Nother good film just saw is Mrs Henderson presents....Dame Judy Dench has a cracker of a line......mentions something about a Fiddlers F#@k which is hilarious.....said in such a proper way!! Priceless.....

Me now off to gym to run on treadmill for an hour or so.....like watching the videos they have on!!

 

i'd probably pick a comedy movie most of the times....
however, i found "black hawk down" and "schindler's list " quite interesting

watched this one on the way to london in 2004..... 4 times, there were simply nothing interesting to watch on other flight channels....
it ws pretty laughable

 

If you ever get the opportunity (and inclination), try and find on the web the 'true' version of events surrounding the 'Blackhawk Down' incident. The novel and film is the stars and stripes version (as you'd expect).

 

They had a docco on SBS tonight that went into a bit more detail of the real event.....not all good for the stars and stripes....an american fighter was now a fancy pot plant for cactus....the locals seemed none too happy bout what happened...

 

i just wonder how much of the "true events" are portrayed in movies..

like hostel, amityville horror, wolf creek, etc etc.. when they say that they are based on true events..

like hostel.. it could be something as loose as someone went on a holiday to slovakia.. thats it!

 

The difference is that movies like Black Hawk Down are sold as 'hyper realism' and 'closely based on true events' while movies like Hostel, despite being fashioned to make you think it just might happen, never pretend to be anything other than fiction.
