I didn't know about this offset thing.

Damn, I own so many gumtrees I'm gonna convert to avgas and fit nitrous for the hell of it.

I like my Mazda 3. I don't what I would do if RX-8 is my only car!

I certainly would not mind having 9L/100km or 0L/100km *(on my bicycle). Can I call that Hybrid drive to work?!?! .

My friend Stephen brought an Odyssey. Honda is not cheap on fuel. He is getting 20L/100km!

Sorry guys, but the organisation that I work for has the Pirus and can assure you that only little old ladies achieve anywhere near 4L/100Km...

You have to drive them harder to keep up in traffic and if the countryside is hilly, then get out and walk... The battery does not work on the hills.. That screen with the battery vs petrol is VERY distracting to the point that I nearly ran into someone on two occassions (actually it is the ONLY interesting thing in the car!)

On the positive side highway cruising is certainly amazingly economical - forget about overtaking anything with the A/C on... And yes it is definately overall more econmical than a RX-8, but I think that a good diesel or a conventional petrol would be safer and provide similar economy..

I'm thinking the BMW 330d might be a good RX-8 replacement....pity they don't bring them here...5.8L/100k and 0-100kph in 6.7s

The trouble with diesels is that once you find a petrol station that has diesel, you then find (a) the forecourt is as greasy as...and (b) you need to wear gloves while filling the car to avoid getting the wonderful odour of diesel on you for the rest of the day
That rules out diesels for 'the ladies' for the time being, at least

^^ Timbo, I think you need to satisfy this longstanding ambition to buy a diesel.

Why not get wifey to trade the Accord in for a Bimmer or a Golf diesel or somethin'.

(and then we'd all get some sleep ).

Yes Honda is in to that thing big time...they planted trees when I bought my Accord Euro...I asked if I could have them planted in my garden....salesman was stumped....LOL!!

Cool well I guess I should get the same.....run the car rich on AVGAS and NOS and have some fun......

Interestingly I have now done 350kms or so and used just under 1/2 a tank.....not too bad I thought. I also had more fun driving to Victor Harbour than I have ever had and so that cancels out any worries about fuel cost.....really a Prius or a Honda thingo will suck badly...they are a bloody gimmick.....not until they get real with performance and styling...will I ever look at one....I will get a diesel before then....Timbo just get the ladies to carry disposable gloves in the glove box!!!

I have a friend in Malaysia that has a bio diesel plant. His base at the moment is Palm oil. No odour and if you get hungry you can take a few mouthfulls ;-)

Americans are ******* DIY mad

https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-racing-25/koni-sport-shock-install-q-84598/

What in the whole wide world that possess them to do DIY on installing the coilover.

The most important part when tracking. I think one of them to get loose and crash

No alignment tool - I will not drive 1km without proper alignment after a coilover install.

And they have no experience and wish they don't end up 15mm lower left front 20mm lower right front, 25mm lower left rear and 10mm lower right rear .... Hopefully they actually measure the length of the coilover before installing

Talking about corner balancing .... I am still waiting for my turn

Glad to see the magnetic attraction he had with Peugeot coupes has weakened somewhat! Susie (Mrs Gomez), is keen to replace the XR8 with another RX-8!!

As much as I love the idea, it's not to practical.......they would look good side-by-side in the garage though .

Actually, I want something that's interesting.

The RX-8 has been interesting...and still interesting, but I just not sure it will float my boat fro the next three years in the absence of some updates. It's as powerful as I want, need (or can handle ), has enough accommodation...but I'm an early adopter, and I'm struggling for the next thing to adopt early

January next year is the drop dead date for the replacement. The Falcon Turbo, the Territory Turbo and the Mazda CX-7 Turbo are the front runners. The Territory trails the pack at this point....

The CX-7 and the Territory are only available in an auto. The Falcon six speed manual is apparently not as good as the ZF auto, so (against the grain) I may end up with an auto....urrgh.

I suppose it all depends what you want/need in the car. I've driven both the XR6T and the NA Territory. Although the Territory is pretty good (for a truck), the Falcon is a really great drive. They've come a long way with the handling in these things and that ZF auto is magnificent - I don't think you'll miss the manual trans at all.

I'm interested to check out the CX7 but I prefer something lower for a family car (don't like the whole SUV genre at all).

And Timbo, if you want to adopt something early, how about my new mortgage.

I dislike truck based 4WD's with a passion.....Patrols, Landcruisers and other land yachts of their ilk. Plastic 4WD's like the CRV are not my cup of tea either.

The Territory was a breath of fresh air (I have a Ford background...). I'd prefer the CX-7 with 2WD, but we aren't going to get that option here. The Territory Turbo is 4WD too (no 2WD available), so the XR6T may end up frontrunner.

I'd prefer not to lug that extra 4WD weight around.

Whatever I get....it has to turn corners well. The Territory and CX-7 would need lowering and suspension upgrades.

If weight and handling are issues it seems to me the XR6T is a no-brainer.

I remember sharing some driving down to the snow last year in a mate's Volvo 4WD (the big one - can't remember model designation).

I had been driving my 8 a lot and was conscious of the fact that I would need to adjust for the road sofa feel of the thing. Even so, first sharpish corner scared the hell out of me.

I just laugh at all these Mosman mummies who think they're safer because they drive a tank. Obviously have never heard of active safety (i.e. the ability to get out of the damn way)!
