I'm asking the questions around here...... .

I'm struggling to accept those figures. To the best of my knowledge, no-one else has gotten this sort of improvement. I don't understand why I'm the only one here who has a problem with these results.

I have to lend credence to the accepted wisdom, until I can be convinced otherwise.

Just a thought...

I would really like to see dyno results from a car, unmodded, taken every 5000km or so to see if the engine really loosens up after time. I would also like to see if the results vary from the first run on the dyno, and maybe the fifth run...

I think any improvement is great especially for a fairly inexpensive mod. Kunz DID say both He and his mechanic were very surprised with the result, and the activity on this thread speaks of the surprise everyone else here has as well.

When I get some time after the baby is born I may find a friendly dyno place and have a go at doing this (the only mod I have at the moment is a detachable elvis figure on the dash).

good idea, but it will be very time and $$$ consuming.....

and yes, the results will vary (engine condition, gearbox, clutch, dyno condition/maintainance, weather, operator, fuel tyre pressure etc)

I'm cool with the fact that the results are puzzling...

Now answer the damn question!

heh heh, I've planted the seed re: dyno at the Nats. It has support in principle from the mighty organiser.

It will grow if enough of you support the idea. Spread between 40-50 people it won't be that expensive.

And you can all go away with wildly different dyno figures that will keep us all arguing till 2020...

^^^he's a monster

It'll be looked at. Clearly, there's people doing mods who may not be interested in "proving" them on the track, so if we can arrange a dyno, it could be attractive to many.

Hey guys,

In all honestly, I came here looking for answers too. The dyno operator (mechanic) and I were as puzzled as everyone here is - however I didnt remember seeing any before+after dyno results with the hymee exhaust so I we both gave up trying to figure out what made the huge improvement after a couple of runs with very similar figures.

As for people suggesting he was jus trying to make my happy by fudging the results, unfortunately it'd be hard for me to accept that as a possible reason for the huge power gain. Firstly, the dyno was my idea, I paid $100 for all the runs which is is reasonably cheap. The operator/mechanic hadnt sold me HIS exhaust so fudging the results would serve him no purpose? I had trouble finding someone who'd to the install because of Australia Day and all and all wanted me to book it in for the week after but I was desperate to get it installed before the cruise so luckily one of the other rx8 guys (kiet1) has a mechanic friend (who has an AWESOME workshop called Power Tune) who agreed to install mine when I told him it was urgent :P

As for me feeling the power gain, YES I CAN. I think the Hymme exhaust has been an excellent purchase and well worth the money. IT sounds great and I can really feel a slight power increase. Its not just placebo either =) however I didnt notice any significant difference in sound during the cruise and I havnt driven another rx8 with a hymee exhaust either so im not sure if theyd be noticing the (slight, in their case) power gain as much as me.

I will continue to search for answers, because as I posted in my first thread, I never expected that much of a gain.

What I really hoped to achieve was to get other members to post their before+after results too. It will be a great way to try and eliminate the variables to figure out what cause the power increase.

Keep on it Kunz...we're with you all the way!

BTW, did kiet1, who posts on the .com.au forum, get a before and after dyno? As he fitted the HKS 'zorst, those results might be interesting from a number of angles

Slightly Off Topic but I took my car for its 10k service the other day and the Mechanics and Service Manager bailed me up for 10 min asking me all sorts of questions. They were drooling over it.

ummm guys, the 8 is ok for 2 wheel dynos yea? cant remember wat mine was done on. as long as DSC is off?
Yup (most are.. if you had your DSC ON previously, then it must have been a 4-wheel dyno as its impossible to dyno with DSC in a 2-wheel dyno.

If you had DSC on in a 2-wheel dyno, DSC will kick in when it figures out that the front wheels arent moving with the back wheels and try and counter the wheel 'spin'
