Nah, I just reckon his old mid pipe was constricted, and the 'before' was lower

The reason for the coyness is that I dont want to get too hyped up over the kW gain from the midpipe as I was absolutely shocked as well - it doesnt make sense as to how something has simple as that (obviously better flow, but only slightly) could make such a huge difference?

The dyno results werent duped, the operator has regular dyno days in Sydney (apparently) so I guess he knows what he's doing..not to mention, he's only 26 and somehow modifying the dyno results to show a gain would be useless for him - hes not selling the product! (Anyway, modifying the dyno to - dont know how that would happen as its pretty much done in real-time)

It could be something to do with the 05 model ECU's as well. Has any other member dynoed their 05 rx8 with the hymee catback?

I'm going to be doing the intakes soon and will most like get it dynoed again (before+after) at a different location. Hopefully the before dyno result should be ~135kW - in that case, it will definitely cause a huge stir amongst fellow 8'ers im sure.

And btw Revolver, why werent you there? lol i brought some tools to put your lights in for you; and we had plenty of time to do it.. ah well next time...

What kind of mid-pipe is it? A bought one or custom-made?

I had a VERY good reason not to be there but thanks for bringing some tools along. I'll PM you when I can sort out some times and maybe trot out to your joint for a light session.

there is no point having 400kw+ at the wheels when you cant use it properly on the road(s)......

hey bro, yeah i had the lights done.. definitely money well spent man, the results at night are just amazing..

Revolved: the midpipe is a custom one, but again, nothing special

Kall: Definitely a good idea to do that - maybe when you and taka come down? or at 06 Nats :D

Agreed, but being the revhead we are, having extra power comes in handy now and then - like when trying to overtake on a one-laned road which a really slow camry driver who is doing much less than the speed limit even when road conditions are at its best

No offense taken, actually no idea how/why it would be implied either!

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to the next dyno as well as the figures dont look that right to me as I said earlier..but its hard not to believe it when we did 4 runs and after the 3rd a subaru was done cos the power gain was pretty unbelievable.

I think timbo's suggestion probably is the best explanation (so far) - ie, the pipe was already constricted prior to the exhaust installation hence the lower 'before' reading.

To the best of my knowledge, no-one else has ever gotten this sort of hp improvement with exhaust modifications only. What Mazda call the "midpipe" many call the "intermediate pipe". This is the pipe that connects between the cat assy/presilencer and the rear muffler assy.

Many in the rotary community call the "midpipe" the section of the exhaust that contains the cat converter/presilencer. Now there are pipes available that do away with the presilencer and have a super high flow cat. The RP Supercat pipe comes to mind. This high performance "midpipe'" releases about 8hp at the wheels. Add this 8hp to the couple that the Hymee catback will give you, and you get 10rwhp.

kunz's dyno shows an improvement of 12kW/16hp. If the replacement of the restrictive stock cat and presilencer produces only 8hp, how can the addition of only a (presumably) mandrel bent section of intermediate pipe produce 14hp (taking the Hymee catback improvement out of the equation)???

Someone help me understand......
