A word about Warranty vs fair/ reasonable wear & tear

It is a frequently deployed tactic practiced by defenders of warranty budgets to attempt to deny claims based on 'Fair wear and tear'.

In Australia (and maybe other countries but I'm not sure) there are aspects of consumer protection legislation that contemplates both 'Merchantable Quality' and 'Fitness for use'.

In the case of the worn veneer on the gear ****, whilst some could suggest 'well, you just wore it out - you'll need to pay for the replacement' my arguement would propose that the professional designers at Mazda would know (or should have known) that some owners would wear rings, or shift by holding the top of the ****. With this knowledge, the specifications for the **** should have taken these matters into account and provided a very robust and long wearing design.

Following this thread, by specifying a 'soft' veneer, the **** is 'not fit for the use it was intended for' and, as such, with the 'easy wearing ****' the car is not merchantable quality.

Having been technical about this - I also know that when the service manager set his eye on the worn **** in my car, he replaced it immediatly under warranty.

I'd recommend asking for a newbie!

As an emergency (in case my warranty replacement also wears), I bought a stitched leather Momo lookalike shifter **** at Makro Warehouse complete with adapters and allen key for $6.99.
