Question

Am just reviving this one (there's no such thing as a dead thread -- just one that has had a rest for a while)

Ok, approaching 40k, and my gear know is losing is aluminised veneer, even though I have been careful. And my handbrake is looking a bit 'dull', too

How many people did manage to get (at least) a replacement **** under warranty? I count three above

Last year I was making enquiries into getting a titanium one made shaped the same as the OEM one, didn't get far though. Will try a few more places when I get a chance.

Yes, they did mine at the 30,000km service, but I noticed wear after 20,000km. I had dropped in a while before the service, and the warranty manager took a look at it. It could be a design fault: I'm not sure whether the metal finish is a paint or plate. If it was the latter, it would wear better. IMO, it should be either all leather or all metal (alloy or stainless steel), retaining the rotor/triangular cross section. Maybe there's an after-market opportunity for someone with access to computer controlled machining thingies.

My wife suggested we should replace it with a custom shift **** in all black stiched leather, and put the stock one away until such time as we sell it. Can anyone suggest a place in Oz where we could buy one?

You probably could get a one with a redback spider inside it from Autobahn and all them.

How long do you reckon I'd last if I brought one of them home?

But it would match your car!

Whilst I haven't really looked at gear ***** for years, I reckon there is a fair selection at any of your SuperCheap / Repco / Autobahn, probably even KMart and BigW.

Cheers,
Hymee.

They have some nice all leather covered anatomic ones by Momo on the Sydney Special Vehicles site www.ssv.com.au for AUD117. We're into discrete, conservative, restrained

my recollection, after searching, is that the Momo ones will fit, after purchasing an adapter. Or you can get a Mazdaspeed for $USD85+shipping.

I like the rotary theme -- just wish Mazda had made something more durable

After 45,000km I need to check mine again. I didn't think I was suffering this phenomenon, touch aluminized plastic.

Look on the off-side, ie, pax side -- that's where all the wear is on mine

I got a replacement because I had the same problem with my first RX8, mainly caused by a ring on my left ring finger. I got a Mazdaspeed shift **** through Japanparts as referred by Taka, see:

http://www.japanparts.com/shop/shop....ing%2fShifting

It is plain neoprene rubber but good shape and no hard surfaces so should not mark. About $180AUD insured and delivered, good service.

Hi Guys

I bought the illuminated gear **** and it broke within 1000kms, I got it replaced and it's now and they tighten it a lot more this time, I hope it doesn't happen again.

I have a spare original gear ****...if anyone is interested...

It is "metal-look" painted plastic and if you wear a ring on your 'gear shift' hand then it is fair wear and tear and falls outside warranty

Us guys "down-under" who are married and have a wedding ring on our left hand will "wear their **** out" quicker than tose that aren't married, or so I've been told ... Ohhhh! I'm now sorry I put that sentance together :o

I reckon I would be pushing **** uphill if I tried on a warranty claim for that. Anyway, after 45,000km my **** is in pristine condition :p

Cheers,
Hymee.
