Gear **** durability

Folks

Its come to my attention in the last week that the previously beautiful polished aluminium gear **** finish may in fact be some low grade veneer.

My gear **** has developed a seriously 'dull and coroded' look

Anyone else got a similar problem

I've just ticked past 20,000km

Picture demo please L&L.

So your fingers are on the side? what side?

It sounds like you are uncomfortable.

It actually is a low grade veneer.. though its happening with my girlfriends BMW already after only one year so i guess its just through wrong use or having rings on ones fingers.

Phillip

My fingers are below the **** on the leather section of the front part of the gear stick front / side .section

For me this is vey comfortable and smooth changing occurs 99% of the time .

Changing gears with minimum force GENTLY , FEELING the gears slide in at the correct RPM .

Michael you will end up detroying the leather

Not much space to shift like that really with the short shifter.. but its possible and yes its best way to chance gear in a racing situation also.. as you get even quicker shifts

Phillip

My shifter did the same thing after about 7000mi. I got it replaced under warranty. 20000k might be a few too many to pull that though . Now I shift on the lower part of the ****/shaft to avoid a repeat. I also buff any standing oils off with a polish rag (read: my sunglasses case) whenever I put them on.

I have no problem with gear **** wear... I guess I hold the stick like L&L.

I think we are different in handling the stick L&L... after we have seen so many gals handling ours :D j/k

Gee, I just ram the gears through; I don't worry about how I hold the shift. The **** looks like new after 20,000km. I can't wear a wedding ring (mangled my ring finger in a bicycle accident years ago), so there is nothing to scratch it. I wipe all surfaces down with a damp chamois once a week.

The finish could be a plating or powder coat over the plastic. Most "chrome" on cars these days is plated plastic.

I've got this prob too, on the right side near the front of the ****... might mention it at next service (I've done 25k now) but don't think they'll fix it.

Cool $5 ****......

Maybe it's time to shelve your 'stocker' and get a really ergonomically comfortable aftermarket $5 ****.......

Winston Churchill?....maybe not.

90's? Looks like it is out of a 70's Charger.

My **** is perfect after 26,000km.

I went to a doctor one time. I said "Doc, I wan't you to look at my ****." She said "OK Hymee." and had a look. Then she said "Hymee, it looks fine to me" and I replied "Yeah, isn't it a f'ken beaudy!!!"

Cheers,
Hymee.

Mine started wearing at 2000 km . The paint started to wear on the point of the 'rotor' where my palm hit, and has gradually grown to a 6mm circle.
I also have a habit of resting my hand on the shifter, the drive to work is stop start.
I complained a couple of weeks ago at my 6 months service (8k on clock) and was told they would replace it under warranty.

Well the design is prone to wear and tear... to wear out the leather is a bit of extreme - (sorry Kas) - but I am sure you can ask them for exchange or repair...

Someone selling their **** for $200 at eBay - so expensive - and the new one is $400!!!!

Struth - That was not knocking the Charger! I was attempting to crititise the blasphemous remark recognising classic 70's automobile memorabilia with something from the 90's

I put a 4-Speed BorgWarner 'box out of a Charger into my Country Cream come Durif Red P76! (Except I got hold of the correct Leyland ****)

Besides, it would be alot closer to shark burley me into the Pine River.

Cheers,
Hymee.

No, not side pipes, unfortunately.

Although I did want to do the same as Even Green did on his '74 World Cup Rally finishing car. Engine pipes straight into a "hot dog" each, then out through the lower sills!

Cheers,
Hymee.
