Thanks for volunteering to coordinate the Qld crew. It looks like I will be able to get away early from my Fraser trip so I am 90% sure that I can make it.

I now have to make sure the family are looked after during the trip as Mrs skc and the kids would come along as well. Therefore the options are drive 2 cars or hire a vehicle in Canberra for the day. May also need to invest in one of those cool hand held GPS mapping devices. I might have a look at what Hymee was using.

At other tracks, yes, but Wakefield manages to operate outside the CAMS monopoly to varying degrees. I would imagine for the RX-8 Nats, there would be no need for a CAMS permit.

Don't read past here if the preceeding paragraph answered your query...
Besides, a CAMS permit would require that all attendees who want to get some track time in be members of a CAMS-affiliated club and would then require that they all had CAMS licences (which for the sort of track day being planned are twice what a "Wakefield Licence" costs), an expensive exercise for a weekend event.

Additionally, running anything under a CAMS permit would require a large number of licenced, trained, CAMS-recognised officials.

I predict our list will hit 50 by the time the day rolls around. Think of all the people who will stumble across this forum, and all the new rx8 owners between now and then.

Well we will have to cap it to a certain limit. Anywhere over 50 cars in a 2 km track will need some organisation and go in groups.

There will be people drop out due to sudden commitments. Hopefully we will get a good number to have enough fun.

I have to stress that people in ACT and NSW can just travel to Wakefield and be at the pit lane. There is no obligation to track your car in the National.

Waaahhhhoooo... I knew that dancing around the cactus bush in the nuddy while swinging a piece of Stilton on the end of a long vine would sort out that Frazer trip..

Even better.. The Finance Director is real keen to see other families - if the track day is too dull she keeps muttering about organising a shopping drive to Canberra or Sydney with some of the other partners..

I use a Magellan Meridian along with the Streets and Tracks software.. See http://www.nextdestination.com.au/pr...an/?category=8 but someone at work purchased a much cheaper routing unit that has 256Mb on board maps, autozoom for only $700.. It is not waterproof though.. :D

I am not keen to do any lap timing or fastest lap exercises, but I would like to explore the RX-8 in a safe way. I guess that one idea I had was that we novices could be given an "exercise" to follow that had plenty of room for error, but provided even a brief opportunity to experience (say) 150Km/hr on the straight..

Agree, we don't want any heros out there and should be no prizes for the fastest laps.

People should be able to have a choice to timed or not. Something that shows lap times or tell me the lap times via the CB is better than recording it on a piece of paper. I only use the lap time as a guideline of how I am driving.

No one needs a CAMS licence to run at Wakefield. The track is privately hired, all you need is a Wakefield licence, issued on the day for about $40.The usual scenario for days like this is to split up into groups with regard to previous experience, with new people being in a separate group, and shown the way around.Timing is available with transponders by GP timing or similar. The last day I attended groups of about 10 cars at a time were let out for 10 minutes[about 7 laps] at a time. This way you can run 40 or so cars an hour, and only 30 minutes between runs.I would suggest that we keep it to RX-8's only-we will have enough to do this, and surely thats the whole point of the day.

They supply transponders? Extra cost? I'm surprised Taka hasn't got one built into his car (MazdaSpeed of course), he's got every other gadget.

This shaping up really well, one minute we're struggling to get to 20 attendees, now we're pushing 40! If this keeps up we may have to move to Oran Park! Hey, I wonder how we apply to become a support class for the GP? Timbo, get onto it.

I know to some this may offend (Hymee) but I hope Shell servos are readily available all the way to Golburn as I have a fleetcard and this is the fuel of choice by the company.
cheers,

No offence to me. I have a fleetcard as well, and I hardly ever use it at Shell, and have no problems using at most places, including 711 !

In fact, the only place I have not been able to use it was at a Liberty one day.

Cheers,
Hymee.

I think Goulburn only has an Esso, and the hand pumping gets really tiring on the arm after a few minutes.........

Well I just did a quick search on BP, Mobil and Shell.

There are one BP, 4 Mobils, and one Shell in Goulburn.

However, there is no Ultimate in the BP and there is no Synergy 8000 in the 4 Mobils.

Good news is there are Optimax and Unleaded 95 available.

What is Unlead 95 you ask...

These two fuels are the same. Shell Unleaded 95 is called Shell Premium Unleaded petrol at Shell branded service stations where Optimax is not available.

In markets where we currently offer Shell Premium Unleaded we will not be re-branding to Shell Unleaded 95 at this stage.

In markets that do not currently offer Shell Premium Unleaded we will take the opportunity to introduce Shell Unleaded 95 as Lead Replacement Petrol (LRP) is removed. Shell Unleaded 95 will be available at Coles Express outlets in Victoria, NSW, South East Queensland and the ACT.
Hmmm.... I think we will drain the petrol pump dry if we do not warn the Shell station at Goulburn about 40 RX-8s coming to fuel up. ... Imagine ... What a sight

Recieved a phone call from Mazda head office the other morning they are conducting their own Eastern creek driver training day towards the years end and are NOT interested in getting involved in our Wakefield National educational drive day .

Anthony will post details of Mazdas Official Eastern creek drive day on our forum at a later date , Anthony was polite and he would make an excellent politician avoiding a few questions i asked him regarding the rumoured Mazdaspeed RX8 the next possible RX7 etc .( A WELL TRAINED COMPANY MAN )

I am not suprised they didnt want to get involved nor dissapointed that they arent

Taka its still 104 days from the date of the Wakefield meet and your Adredalin is running at full speed :D

Damn

Combination of family and work commitments will make it near impossible for me to attend the Nats!

Timbo, please draft another Sydney Co-ordinator (not that I was having any luck getting anyone to PM me with commitment, ideas, etc).

Sorry, guys. Would love to get there - have a hot lap for me.
