Getting up the ranks fluctuates because there are some real guns out there, but the average is.....

Senior Constable - 5 years

Sergeant - 10 years

Senior Sergeant - 15 - 20 years

*Inspector - 20 - 25 years

* If you see a very dark haired Inspector out there...they are either one of those 'guns' or have a very good hairdresser!

 

Once you attain the rank of sergeant, you are automatically given the "standard issue gut"


This goes for the females as well except they receive the "standard issue ****" after about 6 months in the job

Here is another gripe...Just got a ticket for 73k (75 corrected down) in a 70 zone. Sweet no probs I choose to live in a militant state. Then I am travelling down a road doing 79 in an 80k zone and a Police Land Cruiser rocks past doing 90 or so!

I sometimes get pulled over by my mates on the way home or on the way to work.

They do the whole spiel and breath test me and i just tell them to **** off because i want to go home/not be late to work

 

Is driving to a job whilst not under light/sirens considered an allowable time to speed?

With friends like that I would be pulling them over and telling them you have reports they have been smuggling drugs and you need to strip search them

I'm sorry to hear about that Auzoom. Ticketed for 73 in a 70? As previously mentioned, our speedo tolerances are higher.

The problem may not be that you were speeding, but more likely you were doing the wrong speed in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Vehicles like ours accelerate quickly, cruise effortlessly and in air-conditioned comfort (with music playing) its very easy to feel secure and be insulated against the true sensation of speed.

In your case, I suspect the Victorian authorities have concentrated on detecting people in a known black spot area. Thats the best reason I can think of....

 

Yes unfortunately you are right...to a degree.

It was a choice I had to make of get stung for red light or speeding. It was at an intersection where the road I was crossing is 8 lanes wide with probably another 8 lanes of space in between taken up by tram lines. I was doing probably just less than 70k when I had to make the decision:

1. attempt to stop and get stuck in the middle of the intersection (and get done by a red light camera
2. maintain speed and get done by a red light camera
3. speed up, miss the red light camera and hopefully not get done by speed camera.

This intersection is notorius (I think) for its very short amber light time.

 

If it makes you feel any better my wife got a red light ticket about three months ago...except we had our daughter in the car who had just had an operation and the lights turned orange.

Choice 1. Speed up and go through a red light

Choice 2. Try to stop in time - with a risk of causing some pain to our daughter.

We chose Choice 2 and stopped 1.5 metres past the stopline.

Despite a letter of mercy (no mention of my vocation) the medical certificate, hospital certification, and pointing out that the RX-8 had in fact stopped made no difference at all.

We got a rather nastily worded letter back from the traffic camera office. The law was broken and that was that....the ticket was duly paid.

When one thinks about the amount of fun you guys from Oz renesis would be, I think it would be well worth the trip to come down to the Nats this year.

However the 18.16 hours @ 1,493.34 kms is just a little out of my way. If I timed it right though I could probably shave 1 - 2 hours off that time.

I wouldn't be keen on Drews boys out there waiting for me though....
