PROS
They get some great tools such as ID badge, glock, bullet proof vest, handcuffs, baton, OC spray, even Tasers! Police get a good salary and superannuation ($46,000+ pa), opportunities for promotion, diversity in a variety of career paths and free uniforms including leather jackets!
CONS
High risk from assault, exposure to Hepatitis/HIV, being involved an accident, insults, extraordinary high levels of accountability 24/7, a frequent target in the media, and of course shift work.
The best thing about them.....they can protect you when you need it the most
The worst thing about them...I'm sure all of us RX-8ers have had one or two....!

You forgot to mention their literal response patterns.
Big hello to all the cops on the forum . In my experience, most are nice guys/gals just trying to do what can be a difficult job.
Mind you, just like the rest of humanity, I've come across one or two who should have been drowned at birth...

Any sort of blanket statement about an entire group of people is not only poor judgement, but it's ignorant.
Saying all blondes are stupid is a pretty stupid statement in itself, as there are at least a few blondes who are actually very smart!
The statistics show there are bad cops, but there are also good cops that do care and don't want to just shoot people or give people tickets just for the sake of it.
Just like there are bad teachers who molest students, there are good teachers who dedicate their lives to teaching and helping children...and like bad doctors who are negligent and some great ones who cure illness. The list goes on....
So the moral to story is this...don't think that everyone in one group is bad and everyone in the other is a victim. It makes you think...

I have seen fatal accidents and domestics up close and wouldn't want to spend my days and nights attending them.
I don't blame the police, I think most of their problems are caused by politicians.
Like it or not the Highway Patrol do save lives.
If people were correctly trained as drivers, only competent drivers licenced and cars were maintained to a high standard, there is no reason why some roads in Australia couldn't have 150km/h speed limits.
I find it offensive that on most highways a fully laden 5 tonne truck can be driven at the same speed as my RX8.

they unplug their limiters and leave it hanging but to the untrained eye, it looks like its still plugged in!!! sneaky truckies....oh yeah and they are known to take speed on the odd occasion so they can drive through the night to get to their destination quicker...CRAZY!

The B-Doubles are at least equipped with brakes.
One night many years ago in a Holden with bad drum brakes etc. I was tailgated by a semi on the Hume Highway for slowing to the speed limit in a town. When he passed me he deliberately cut in early forcing me off the road. AS tempting as it would be to follow him until he stopped than modify his limbs so that he wouldn't be a menace again, a recent police check of heavy vehicles near Tweed Heads found guns, axes knives and large quantities of amphetamines in more than one interstate truck.

I was overtaken by one B-Double on the Hume and then trailed him for a while. He hit 140 down the big dipper at Mittagong. Yes, I am sure he has brakes, but we're talking a minimum 20 tonne unladen mass here! Where are the cops when you need them?

All perfect reasons why we need a viable freight rail alternative, not to mention dual north south highways on the east coast.
Fortunately, I've never had a Duel moment but we came awful close to being wiped out a few months ago when a rig sans trailer got all crossed up trying to stop on the M5. If 'er indoors hadn't bolted into the next lane, the mini-terrorists would have been wearing dual wheels for hats.

Most of the Pacific Highway is very good now.
Tomorrow I am driving to Sydney. In January I did the 805 km from Hornsby in 7 hours and 50 minutes. At the time I will be traveling tomorrow I expect to beat that by up to 10 mins. If an average speed over 100 kmh seems fast consider that there is nearly 200km of 110kmh zones. I estimate that I have done over 100000km on the Pacific Highway and have only been booked for speeding on it once - in 1985.
Cruise control is your friend.

Oh, shut the **** up! The number of times I've been pulled over for trumped up crap it's really giving me the *****. The only reason why I get off every time is because I never do anything wrong or they pull me over for somethign unreasonable and not understandable from any angle!
Annoyingly frustrating!

With you on that one Cromax. For those that dont know, one of the reason I copped a canary at big boys toys was that my 93Y tyres were supposedly under rated. The moron booking me read the placard for the spare tyre instead of the normal tyres (91W). In fact my tyres were OVER spec'd as taka later pointed out.

My cousin had a cop boyfriend, they bought a house together. Seemed like they were going to go all the way, but then he joint the police. All the adhoc callouts got to them, eventually he just got up and left.
Turns out when he went to police training school the trainer told him that if you are in a relationship, within 2 years time its almost certain the policework will break you up.
On a side note the last 2 policemen I happen to have crossed paths with recently were nice and understanding.

STOP PRESS....Members of the Victorian police force are always helpful, they have no reason to pull you over for no reason, if they suspect an issues they will pull you over, they have alot more to do than to harrass you and oull you over for no reason at all. Traffic police are trying to keep the roads safe and the bad drivers at bay. I wish some people whould have more respect for authority!
