Still, under 100000km on a clutch is a bit low ... I'd hope to expect about 150k out of the clutch assembly.

But at clutch replacement time, it's time to look at aftermarket stuff

Get real people, you are driving a sports car.
Taka the reality is failures are occurring with everyday driving and not on race tracks.

to me most of the problems appear to be isolated manufacturing and quality control faults rather than poor design. still I would expect the rx-8 to be as durable as other cars I have owned considering the premium I paid for the rx-8.

If not, you'd expect it to be more durable in everyday conditions...

Contrast to your believe. Track driving is not that harsh on the clutch.

It is just high rev changing gear and if you rev match during downshift, it should be ok.

I think the way that I am going up the ramp at my work's car park... that will burn my clutch sooner. I have a smelly clutch twice now, after riding it up the hill.

While we're on the topic, I found a source that ships ORC clutches for the rx8. $850+shipping, pretty cheap considering it comes with flywheel.

It's all to do with confidence when driving up hills, if you keep thinking it's going to stall, well that's why you burn your clutch out ... I myself don't ride my clutch at all up hills ... it's all to do with what you're used to and your driving skill I guess.
