I wanna know what the deal is here in Oz with Synth oil as I am overdue for an oilchange after the last track day and I was looking at using RP.

Andrew
Mazda here in OZ has clearly stated the use of a MINERAL based oil NOT SYNTHETIC OR SEMI SYNTHETICS to be used in the RX8 .(5W - 30 )
The Caltex GTX3 is a Mineral oil slightly heavier 10w-40 but cheaper than the MAZDA ONE BY UP TO $ 50 PER 5 LITRES .

I was gonna go to synth as well but after the latest TSB I've decided to go with the flow and just use MRO from now on.

If you are overdue on an oil and filter change after a track day, you are!
In my view, we need to remember the 'rules' of oil
1. any oil is better than no oil
2. new, clean oil is better than old, dirty oil
3. any oil with the correct viscosity & temp rating is better an oil with the wrong viscosity/temp rating
4. ...then it's all marketing!

Timbo, agreed. I dont believe that I am overdue as such< i just lie to change after the track. Car was serviced just before the track day and I have topped up with a total of 1 1/2 litres of fresh GTX3 since then.
The really annoying thing is that if you want a mineral oil that has a W rating below 15 you almost always have to order it in especially.
Rotor Convert, are you aware that magnatec is synthetic? Or did I miss something again?

Castrol Magnatec contains a synthetic ester that is unique to Castrol.

Yeah, I got all that. Castrol don't market it as a synthetic though, and it's a lot cheaper than say.....Mobil 1, for example. It's like it's a mineral oil.....with some synthetic magnety sticky oil goop put in. A bit like Coke's secret recipe.
I have asked them....Is it a hydrocracked mineral oil, or a true synthetic? I have also asked them (in light of Mazda Australia's recent bulletin) whether they would recommend it for the Renesis...

Second on the Penrite HPR 5. Good viscosity rating. Broke down my needs with the tech guy from their distributor and came up with this suggestion. Its actually a mineral based oil with a number of refining steps thrown in to get the proper viscosity level of 5-40.

Made it to lorn without it, I'm gonna wait and get some Mazda Rotary Oil..
Tsk Tsk.. haha
I read the manual and as it's an on going topic of discussion I'm gonna steer clear of Synthetics for the time being , did but some 10w-30 Shell Synthetic oil, but I doubt I'll use it for the time being.
