Another mineral oil

ASH8

Has kindly pointed out that there has allways been a mineral oil available here in OZ , POSSIBLY CHEAPER THAN THE MAZDA recommended oil , whilst its slightly heavier being 15W - 40 viscosity as he pointed out that after 500km of use the oil would have thinned out .

CASTROL GTX3

Protection under all Driving Conditions
A premium mineral 15W-40 viscosity oil that provides superior engine protection under all driving conditions.
Highly effective detergent and dispersant system to engine internals clean.
Suitable for modern passenger cars with multivalve engines, including turbo models.

SAE 15W-40
API SM/CF
ACEA A3/B3

I'll point out then that mobil provide:

Mobil Super XHP 10W-40, 15W-40, 15W-50 and 20W-50 keep engines running cleanly, smoothly and protects through a combination of high quality conventional mineral oils and a premium performance additive system. Mobil Super XHP 10W-40, 15W-40, 15W-50 and 20W-50 maintain overall engine cleanliness preventing the build up of harmful deposits, sludge and varnish; and fight wear and corrosion under a variety of driving conditions.

Ahh, nothing like marketing copy for oil to make your eyes glaze over.

Think I'll just stick to MRO and use the other minerals for topups if I can't get or run out of MRO in future (which won't be for a while because I just picked up another 5 litres).

Michael, can you define 'official recommendations'? A lot of those are synthetic oils.

Might have been more helpful just to post the link to the original source

Okay Michael, how about taking up the challenge of trying as many oils as possible, bit like those tourist trap pubs that give you a free T-shirt if you can drink all the various beers on offer.

I don't see how synthetic oils would cause a huge problem. I know about the TSB and all, but they do tear less than mineral oils, and considering we're going 10000km between service it may be beneficial. You will get more carbon buildup, as the oil doesn't burn the same way, but you can always blast that out with some throttle body or carbie cleaner once a year

Castrol R is the equivalent to Castrol Edge. Change of name for marketing purposes. Edge/R = synthetic!

Talking

I have Castrol Edge in the car at the moment. Now after 5,500 kms am going back to Castrol Magnatec 10w 40... One batch of MRO I got had a Castrol badge on the bottle as well as the Mazda branding. As far as I can see it's more than likely the same oil with Mazda badge and Mazda margin....

Looks around waiting to see who has more marketing spam to spill...oils oil...the car burns it...like fuel as long as it's the right weight who cares? I have more to worry about like my next manicure appointment...or my engine recall!!

Myoil list was meant to be taken as a bit of humour (joke) to this never ending oil issue , some people should take time out come up to the Gold coast and not take life so seriously..... living afterall its not a permanent condition . LOL LOL

MRO is packed by Castrol in Aus, they had some early bottle shortage hence the branded bottle. Guy's here thought that MRO was also blended in Aus....am still checking.
