Some of us are now receiving recall notices for suspension and/or heat issues.

Obviously, you should have that work done ASAP and well before the Nats. Remember, you track your car at your own risk.

What Gomez said but just briefly I've been happy with Brookvale Mazda so far (no loan car but they will drop you off, pick you up, etc if you ask nicely ).

Ask for Cameron - he's RX8 friendly.

Just had my recall done today and they also did the Starter motor, plugs and battery without me saying anything. Walked in to pick it up and they said "Oh we also did this". Must say the starter sounds very different & boy does it fire up fast :D

Drove in this morning and there was Taka parked next to me getting his recall done too. Had a quick breaky at Macca's next door with him and planned our mods :D :D :D

Got mine back today after the 40K service and recall work.

Suspension checked out fine.

Heat damage was found and resulted in replacement of the O2 sensor, the engine wiring loom and the right hand handbrake cable. It was kept in over the weekend 'cos of delay getting the brake cable...

Oh, and I got a brand new centre console and lid - not sure if that was heat damage or because of the broken catch on the lid!

It's going back in soon for the starter/battery/plugs replacement as well.

What do you make of all that?

Will

Edit: Taka, just saw yr comment on the re-flash thread - wanna check if I got one on mine? I was told that I would.

Man.....

I am going to call consumer affairs and see what my rights are with this recall.
I do a LOT of k's and cant afford to explode.

They better at the very least offer me a free loan car.Otherwise I am going to be pissed!

Mate, I can save you the trouble.

Basically, there's not much you can do about it. Harassing for a loan car should get a result but otherwise you just need to be a good boy, let them fix your car and get on with it. Fact of modern manufacturing life.

I have my car booked for next Tuesday. I am getting the recall and my 30 000 service done at the same time.

Other issues to be looked at are brake squeal, foggy head lights and occassional hard start.

I noticed they are doing something about excessive exhaust heat build up. However I dont think it will resolve the hot cup holders issue as they are more concerned about the fuel tank.

I think by installing the Hymee cat back I have reduced the heat around the fuel tank anyway. :D

I think that's exactly right and what they're correcting here is a poor exhaust design. IMHO, in 20 years time if you're looking for a classic 8, make sure it's one that's had the Hymee since near new.

BTW, skc, I "hear" there's new marketing blurb coming out from Mazda highlighting the "available as a standard fitment...heated cupholders". As a software industry person, I know a bug can always be recast as a feature :D

Got mine done today. Just the thermal padding and flash done. Guy said that they knew nothing about anything to do with starter motors and that your starter would have to be almost dead before _they_ changed it.

$%^&*&^%$#%^&*()

Sick of my dealers attitude but I dont think its fair to offload the burden of their ineptitude to another dealer. When I go for my next scheduled service I might try someone else.
