Petrol price? High petrol prices were blamed for the demise of the RX-7 - at least these were the claims made by the Australian media.. What is interesting is that except for Tasmania and ACT, the petrol price seems to be dropping again..

More than happy to pay for petrol prices as oppossed to getting ripped of on servicing other cars such as BMW , MERCEDES , AUDI , HONDA ETC............ the RX8;S ARE RELATIVELY DIRT CHEAP TO MAINTAIN AND SERVICE UNLESS YOU GET RIPPED OFF :D

cheers

Personally, I think that the RX-8s consumption is about the same as the 2000 MPV we used to own... That means that the Tibutes are probably consuming around the same amount of fuel.. A 70 litre tank would have been nice - just a bit more range..

I have to agree about the servicing costs.. A friend of ours took his Audi A4 for the equivalent of our 10,000 service and paid $400... He was not happy..

I wouldn't mind betting that a fair few were an impulse buy and then the purchasers found they couldn't really afford the payments or whatever. The flash car also often gets sold when wifey wants a house or a 'safer' car for baby or something else.

I very much doubt the majority of the cars for sale are due to dissatisfaction with the car itself. As for fuel consumption - most people realise our fuel is still dirt cheap compared to most countries around the world. I've never bought a car yet with fuel consumption as the primary motivator - but then again, I didn't grow up with depression era parents either.

Thanks Revolver, you saved me typing out the same comment.

I had a look at the site that L@L mentioned and there were a similar number of Nissan 350z for sale, and over twice as many Porsche Boxsters.

It seems that it's just too easy now for many people to sign up for things that they can't really afford, or haven't checked out thoroughly enough.

The RX8 really stood out as being different when it was released, so maybe there were also quite a few "must have that new toy" types who find that the novelty aspect of anything new wears off after a few months.

Whatever the reason, they're losing a great car. Mine is definitely not on the For Sale list (and it's paid for too... )

House prices these days certainly give the banks a chance to lend more money out, if you've got a bit of equity.

I'm stunned by house prices today. A house that I bought in 1981 for $30,000 is currently on the market for $460,000 (I sold it in the mid 1980s) AND the block has been subdivided since I owned it! Geez....

Fortunately, we bought our current piece of land in the days when the land was cheap, and I built the house myself, so we didn't have a debt for all that long.

There are a lot of people want to have RX-8 but cannot afford it long term. So they have it leased and get someone to buy out the lease.

There are a lot of dealer demo. In Melbourne, each dealer has 2 or 3 demo cars. Company has executives like to drive the 8.

Same story in 350Z too!

It is a nature of middle class sport cars! :o

People are either upgrading their old Boxsters to the new model or getting ready for the new cayman s .

I intend on purchasing another vehicle around 2008 however i will be keeping the RX8 for fun

Your $30,000 dollars in 1981 had the same buying power as $460,000 today its only numbers

cheers

Damn, Lock!! I don't know what I'm buying next year, let alone 2008!! With 5 year plans like that you'd make a great commie!! :p :D :D

Otherwise good to see you're loyal. I was having the powerball daydream the other day and decided I'd keep the 8 and mod it to within an inch of its life. Strip it out, carbon everything and every powertrain accessory known to science!! :D :D

The daily drive would be an Aston Martin Vantage of course!

I am sorry I will take the DB9! :p

Vanquist is alright but I think I will have a new GT3 for track. M5 for family outings and a Land Rover discovery for long trips.

Hahahaha. Okay Taka let's get serious! :D

The 8 modded with everything for fun.

AM Vanquish in 'titanium' (sorry, not Vantage) for daily driver - DB9 too cheap and common :p - almost as bad as those down-market Bentley Continental GTs :p

Ariel Atom 2 for the track - bye bye GT3 :p Hello face distortion! :D :D

Black Range Rover Vogue for family outings AND long trips AND mafioso - M5 is fugleee IMHO and Discos start falling apart within days of leaving the showroom.

And of course a screaming red Pagani Zonda for those days when you just need to be noticed/get bored with your regular rides! :D

Why immediately jump to such a negative conclusion?

The car is coming up to 2 years old since release. Many people roll their cars over at that time, especially if leased. There have also been a large number of Mazda exec cars on the market. We already have a number of owners of second 8's.

I may roll mine over this year...or not. Just thinking about it. Might get another 8...might not

Not likely! My decisions are based around getting the best bang for the buck with a tax-effective lease that costs me less than $1,000/month.
