Well what can I say, thanks very much to all of you that came along, pitty we didn't get a few more people to come along, as I think they missed a good weekend.
Izzy and I caught a ride with Brettus and it was an exciting ride, especially the section of timed road from Coromandel to Matarangi being done by Brett in 14.16mins, fairly quick if you look at the distance traveled.
I would think that section of road would normally take 25-30mins.
Sorry to all in regards to some of the questions on the mystery tour, as you all found out, some of them were a little differcult to answer, as Google maps is a little out of date, so some of the things you had to look out for weren't even there anymore. Still it made for some interesting answers to the questions.
Congrats go to Richard (Nzmkey) and codriver for winning the prize for the mystery tour questions. He got a nice new set of rotor shaped wheel caps, thanks go to Brettus for supplying these.
Thanks Scott and Kerry-Sue ( Scottnz & Mrs Scottnz )for the excellant photos, and as you all can see, the weather was excellent for driving around the country on some great roads.
Hopefully Stephen ( Stephenrx8 )and his partner managed to make it back to the Naki ok, they got a little lost and then found us again, I probably should have got all your guys phone numbers off you before we started. I'll remember for next time, so we don't have this little problem again.
Greg ( Sweefa ) and all his codrivers had fun helping him to get lost, luckly he found his way again.
I think overall everyone had a pretty good weekend.
It was good to catch up with a few of the regulars that I hadn't seen for the last year.
Anyway hopefully we will put something together again in the future.

Regards

Rotaman

Well done Rotaman, I'm a bit jealous. It's great that there are people willing to take on the role of organiser, and equally great that the guys obviously appreciate it too. Cheers, Stephen.

Excellent vid Richard, always makes me laugh watching a whole day in less then 5mins.

Thought I would ask some questions of the people who attended the event, and anybody else who might like to comment.

1) What did you like and dislike about this event?

2) What would you like to see/do in another event, that wasn't in this one?

3)Did you like the overnight stay? would you want to have an overnight stay again? or not bother?

I won't be offended by whatever you say, so feel free to make a statement.

Thanks

1/ Liked the great roads and the mix of convoy and separate drives.
Liked the photoshoots .
Liked the overnight accommodation - good score there Roger

2/Maybe a question and answer session with a each person talking for a couple of mins about their car and what they have done to it , what worked and didn't what they would like to change about it - that kind of thing .Would suit a small group possibly.

3/ Combine the event with a track day with optional participation .

I think the overnight thing would only be necessary if we go further afield next time .

1) I liked the mix of solo driving and convoy. The roads, the people.....the whole thing was great really. (Except for the party at the neighbours )

2) I was thinking it would be great if we could have regular meetups. Maybe once every month or 2 for an afternoon drive somewhere interesting finishing up with fish and chips at the beach, a drink at the pub, the drags or what ever. A chance to socialise with other owners. This should be easy for Aucklanders at least. And then once a year to a bigger overnight event like the one we just had. I think the more regular events might make it easier to build a group and maintain a level of interest to get more cars at the big annual event??

3) I was surprised at how well the overnight stay worked. If you asked me before I would have said I would prefer a 1 day event, but it made Saturday a whole lot more relaxed without the need to get back to Auckland. And there wasn't the need to cram everything in. The downside is cost I guess. 2 days means more fuel $$ plus food, accommodation, and Sunday activities. But for a once a year thing I think the cost was OK. The flip side of that is that if we had done a 1 day thing just on Sunday, then the $95 cost of leadfoot may have been more palatable??

1) What did you like and dislike about this event?
>>Like the two days event and the accommodation
>>Like the timed section
>>Like the questions
>>Like having an awesome organiser (Roger)
>>Like having an awesome navigator (Jonny) and the prize (thanks brettus)
>>The travel/driving distance is just right.
>>Dislike the speeding. prefer to do that on the track

2) What would you like to see/do in another event, that wasn't in this one?
>>Skid pan, Gymkhana, track day/training day
[spam] there is a driving training day at hampton on 4th May $190 (PLAYDAY On Track)
[more spam] half day skid pan cost ~$800 at Hampton. around$40 each for 20 cars
>>Like brettus suggestion on small group talk about each car.

3)Did you like the overnight stay? would you want to have an overnight stay again? or not bother?
>>Like the overnight stay.

A big thanks to you Roger - the twins and Hamish had a ball - Got home around 8.30 and 722kms later. Been a very busy week preparing for Sat.

I enjoyed the entire day and thought your stopping adventures were an excellent

a co driver that had more than a learners licence would have been better !

Cheers
Greg

Well thanks, so far some good feed back and good ideas for any future events.
I will take all this into account.
If anyone has some places or events like nzmkey has suggested, that may be worth looking into then feel free to let us all know about it.

Is anyone interested in this - https://www.facebook.com/RuakakaStreetSprint

Its coming up on the 7th April, so not far away.
I have competed in this 2-3 times now and it is a great event.
Also pretty good to watch, as there seems to be some good watching places and theres always the odd car going off.

I'm hoping to compete again this year, but that will depend on money and if I can convince them to allow me to run with a club day membership.

I don't think I would compete, but if anyone else is going I might come along as a spectator.

Hey Scott

I'm guessing you don't come up north very offten.
If you are coming up SH1, then it will take you around 1.5hrs to get to Ruakaka, as it takes less then 2hrs to get to Whangarei nowadays, and thats driving conservetively.
And knowing how most motorsport events start, if they get the event underway by 10am, they will be doing well.
So you probably don't need to start coming up north before 8.30am.

If you guys want to do a mini mystery tour coming north, then let me know and I can put something together for you.
I have had a look and I can get you just about all the way up to Ruakaka with out using SH1.

No I haven't been north of Snells Beach or Mangawhai for a long time. I'm happy to leave when ever.

Are you entered to race Rotaman?

Scott, No I'm not entered yet, but I will find that out in the next couple of days, I'm waiting for them to get back to me regarding weather I can run with a day club membership.

StephenT, If I'm not entered I will probably be able to come down pass your way somewhere between 9-9.30am.
If I do end up entering, then I will probably go down the day before as scrutineering starts at 8am.

So I can let you know if you like in the next couple of days.

I've decided not to compete in the Ruakaka street sprint this year, as once I worked out all the costs, it was going to end up costing around $58 for each run and there would be 3 runs for the day. That works out at about $29 per minute of driving time.
Anyway, so if you like Stephen, I can meet up at your place or somewhere you might like to meet and we can go down in convoy if you like.
Then we could meet up with the Auckland group down at Ruakaka town centre ( Marsden Point road )or something like that.
Let me know if that suits everone.
I probably won't get down to Ruakaka until around 10.30am

You Auckland guys need to organise a meeting place and time.
