11.5k Service

On Thursday morning I took the 8 in for it's combined
10k service (closer to 12k actually) and the warranty
sump & sensor replacement at the same time.

Two things :

(1) The sump replacement means the car
stays overnight, as they use liquid gaskets which
need time to dry before the oil can be re-added.

Needless to say, I had to pick the car up Friday morning
instead of the promised Thursday around lunch. Only
problem is that the cricket was starting on Friday morning
at about 10:30ish, but I had to be at the Cathedral
hotel across the road drinking by 8:30. So City Mazda
kindly brought their tech in early on Friday so I could
have the car back by 8am. Collected car. Drove home.
Walked to the Cathedral. Met people. Got my red Steve
Waugh farewell piece of fabric. Drunk 4 beers. On the Hill
by 10:30 in time for more beer and the toss.

[aside - the beers at the Cathedral are necessary. A few
Coopers Pales in the morning to wet the palate so the
XXXX golds at the Adelaide oval aren't the first thing to
hit your stomach. The Lion Nathan stuff is putrid]

So, +1 to City Mazda for going to the extra effort to enable
me to get properly drunk at the cricket.

(2) Last night I had to go to Dinner in Clarendon, a quaint
little town in the Adelaide Hills, about 5km of windy roads
off the Southern suburbs. Not too far away from McLaren Vale (and home to a few vineyards of its own). So I go around a
75 km corner at 110, as is my wont, and the tyres squealed.

WTF?

So this morning I went and reset the pressures back up to 42
psi. Then I checked my service report "Checked and Adjusted Tyre Pressures". They sure did, they checked and adjusted them down to 30 psi.

So, -1 to City Mazda for robbing me of valuable pressure from my tyres. If I wanted ride over performance I would have bought a BMW or a Lexus.

So not only do you like lots of psi, you like lots of **** too :D

I really don't like the standard tyres, they seem to have "gone off" quite quickly! I think the 8 should have something better - the wheel and type size combo is good, it's just poor rubber IMO.

Hahahaha!

So he likes pressure and beers (not our stuff though), and you like good rubbers

Pitty they (service) whiped their own runs off the board.

Cheers,
Hymee.

So what is everyone running their tyres at?... 42 is pretty high. I'm running mine at 38.

I thought they taught us that at the Murcott course. (Shows how quickly you forget!) I think 42 is OK for lots of highway driving. I try to go 36-38 minimum.

Cheers,
Hymee.

I'm running 38-40 psi. Out of interest, I had a puncture repaired the other day and I got a price for the Potenza's while I was at it. $430 a pop! This was going to be the summer of drifting too! Not anymore. Well, not as much anyway....

Interesting about the over night job on the sump. Mine only took a couple of hours, so they told me. I wonder which dealer's not doing the right thing?

I run mine at 36 but agree with you kev. I reckon they have gone off -- I now have 17,000 k on the clock and they still have plenty of tread, but they are noisier, I have to be even more calm in the wet and … well, I'll be glad to spend $1,000 on a new set in the not too distant future.

What's everyone thinking in terms of replacement rubber? I have liked Yokahama in the past.

I've got 39 psi in my tyres at the moment. Should I go even higher for my Newcastle-Brisbane drive tomorrow? Bueler?

Has to stay overnight for the sump replacement? They did it all in a day on mine... how about anyone else that has had it done?

The tech showed me the service manual entry. Liquid gasket should be left to dry for up to 24 hours before adding oil. Otherwise the seal might not be complete and you risk oil leakage. Based on that advice, I'd say the "same day turnaround" guys were cutting corners.

Either that or my service tech made something up, photocopied it onto Mazda-ish letterhead, just to confuse me.
