It's also NA, so might have more impact on FI

I have several TBs if you want to work out an exchange and will cover shipping. Ultimately I want to have then when needed, but for now they're just sitting on unused engines.

It will have more impact on a turbocharged setup. Always does. It'll basically make for a more aggressive boost threshold which in layman's terms means your target boost will be achieved earlier in the RPM ranges all other things remaining constant. While possibly adding a bit of high end peak power, it's real magic is in making the car gobs quicker in the mid-range when it comes to the turbo app.

I chose to use the word "might" because I've seen a claimed HP increase pan out into a HP decrease in reality, but I don't want to bash anyone so we'll leave it at that. I agree that porting should provide better output for an FI application.

I agree and that's one reason why I don't post "HP gains with this mod" nor do I believe in the practice of that generally speaking. It's a very misleading thing because it doesn't look at the specifics of how engine setups really work: they are a (hopefully) balanced system of many parts that work together. When you change one, it has a tendency to change the entire system either for the better or for the worse. The thing about "gains" is a misnomer, in my view.

After driving around this morning I can tell it pulls a touch more in the midrange It is not a major difference but it just feels better. Of course feel is subjective.

Has anyone with FI done this mod because I'd love to hear what they have to say.

i run the pettit set up and yes the butt dyno says "Good" but like Team Says--you really dont know.
Middle range seems to be the area it is most apparent to me. But what do I know.

Well like you, all I have said it feels different (in a good way). A touch more pull in the midrange and maybe up top. Not sure if you and Team are implying I made other claims I certainly hope not because there is nothing grandiose or misleading about my statements.

no man , hadnt even though of it actually. I saw the thread--have done the mod and thought i would post.
Like i said I do "feel" a difference (harder pull) in the midrange, my idle is already fast because of the s.c.
Hard to give objective data until official testing is done but hey-- wth--i like it, you like it--thats all that matters.

Den,

We played around with this to hunt for power. Found 3 hp on a 210 motor. Gains came mostly in the inlet side via a nice, sexy radius. We also took about 50% off the surface area of the shaft including cutting off and countersinking the shaft screws.

WRT power, you'll find that if you do not index the butterfly correctly then you can/might lose power. Gotta index that sucker correctly.

I have a guy that will also do it for you if need be.

Yep. When we put ours back together we lost 1 or 2. Reindexed the butterfly to be exactly perpendicular at WOT and gained a few. I beleive it's not the size of the opening but rather the contribution to better flow/better velocity. This would explain why porting this engine doesn't get you much. It would be interesting to work a motor and focus on increasing short turn radius (radi ?), deburing, port matching and zero or very limited enlargement of openings and orifice's. Perhaps a winter project.

Well, after driving my car for a few days, all I can say is I am at how much quicker my car is. I have all the mods one could want on a NA setup, so this ported TB just adds to my performance. If anybody was out there sitting on the fence on this, your just plain crazy not to make a deal with Brian.

My mods are on my vGarage page in case your curious. (I cannot wait to get my engine swapped out this Winter with the Engman engine and see what it feels like with good compression again!)

I purchased one of Mazmart's engines during a one time Full Moon sale. Not sure whose original core it was. I am working on it in my garage adding some goodies like the Greddy oil pan, Sohn adapator, new rebuilt lower intake with the new SSV valve, etc.

My original engine is still in the car and fires right up fine. 88K on it now.

Close attention to side seal clearances I'm sure, water pump and thermostat is all I can think of.
