So I found this "Saleen Rx8 Lowering Kit" on my local Craigslist..

Yeah, so I was surprised Saleen was making stuff for the Rx8, So I confirmed no items found via google. And after talking to the guy he seems less than knowledgeable about anything.

He now says he doesn't see a name on the box. But he insists they are lowering springs for an Rx8..

he also claims they are adjustable.. Which I didn't think was possible.

I'm completely new to lowering a car in any capacity.. So I'm hoping you guys can look at this and tell me what we're looking at.. Any help appreciated.

what kind of drop are u looking for? personally if u want lowering springs i would suggest brands that were designed to work with the stock shocks, swift springs are a good example .8 drop and work fine with stock shocks. Theres plenty of threads and sticky on springs just search you will find

mabye true but considering there a reputable brand i would trust them when they say there fine with stock shocks and of course it all depends on the condition of the stock shocks.... sounds like the op doesnt want much performance anyways but going for looks only. I would personally go with full coilovers but considering hes looking for a ''deal'' i wasnt going to even waste my time mentioning

Lowers front by 25-30mm and rear 25mm. Nice drop without wrecking the ride I'd think.

The only lowering springs that I am aware of that are marketed to be "OK" with stock shocks are the Racing beat sport springs. Where have you seen that the Swift springs work well with the stock shocks?

I think they are referring to the laws of physics that state that any lowering spring has to be stiffer than the stock spring in order to keep the car from banging on the bump stops all day long. Since all shocks are valved to work with a specific range of spring rates, and all lowering springs can not possibly stay within the same spring rate range as stock, this inevitably means that no lowering spring can actually function well with the stock shocks (or if they actually do, it means you are bouncing along on the bump stops)

This is something that any reputable spring/shock company should be aware of, and any company that claims otherwise is either lying or doesn't know what they are talking about.

Well, maybe "lying" is too harsh. Try "willful misrepresentation of the truth in order to sell a product".

You provide more uniformed advice to questions on here that I have ever seen, this isn't the dumb helping the blind. Stay out of threads you know nothing about as you just spread wrong information to new users who actually have potential and you will eventually cause one of these said new users to break something listening to your moronic advice.

This is all true. I have only one thing to add. When you lower the car, the whole geometry of the suspension changes. It doesn't move in the same way it was designed to. As the suspension compresses, there are natural changes in camber, caster and bump steer. Lowering a car can change these changes so the car actually handles worse when lowered. I consider desirable only for looks or high speed aerodynamics (keeping air from getting under the car). RB springs use minimal lowering while increasing the spring rate. I currently have H & R springs on my car. I lowers it too much and I will be going back to stock or the RB springs. My racing RX7's had a large increase in spring rate with almost no reduction of ride height.

When Monchie first started here, he only posted pictures that may or may not (at least in my mind) related to the subject of the thread. I probably deleted a couple hundred of his posts because they were simply noise.

A seemingly knowledgeable person giving bad advise to one that will follow it, is always worse than a person that knows he knows nothing and doesn't speak.

Yes, in the way that we don't encourage the spread of false information. For that we all apologize greatly for ensuring that false information is not spread around to new owners in the hope of preventing them from doing stupid things to their cars that would damage or more so leave their vehicles undrivable
