Engine Misfire (Two Scenarios/Yes, Another Topic)

So I searched and read a few threads about this, but none seem to match my scenario exactly, so I figured I'd ask - keep in mind I'm relatively new here, so this is likely going to happen a few times. Sorry :X

Car's bone stock, 78k miles on it, and I can almost consistently get it to misfire in two scenarios. First, I start my car and drive somewhere - getting on the thruway is where this has happened three times to me. The oil temperature gauge has reached the just-below-halfway point that's normal operating temperature, probably a few minutes beforehand, considering it takes me about seven to reach the on-ramp - going up in second, I'll floor it to reach traffic speed, and if I near red-line, there's a 70% chance I'll misfire. Light blinks, goes away, doesn't do it again.

Second scenario has only happened once, I was driving around on my way back home from work, and decided to take it down a local 55 zone that's never policed for a speed test. Nearing the top of fourth gear, I was just around 8K and the engine misfired either once or twice, the light seemed to blink longer - maybe because I was staring at it waiting for it to go away or otherwise, but it did go away and I haven't run it at high RPM's for a long time since. This was about a week ago.

Changing my plugs, wires, and coils and cleaning my MAF is on my list of things to do, but with the rain out this way lately, and my work schedule, I haven't had time to. Any other suggestions as to what may be happening?

P.S. Can engine misfire cause any serious issues?

change all the things you listed. Also check your cat converter by pulling down the front and looking in. Or after a hard drive at night, check underneath for glowing cat.

...and yes, extended period of repeated misfires or incomplete combustion due to bad plugs, wires, coils, etc can dump on your cat - hastening its demise...

They pretty much got it covered.
