And you were able to replace with the Viper? That is good news. I've been looking for a way to dump my credit card style keyless system. I've had my share of problems as well.

The puzzling part is the problem with the old fob. It's a mystery how it tests OK, yet still doesn't work.
Thanks to Grace_Excel for the info.
I was tired of using the key to manually open everything.

* now I can't get it on my key ring.
*OK, had to get a little split ring out of my tackle box.
The switchblade FOB should have included one, see my picture below.

PM Twiztog43, he installed one on his RX-8 because he went turbo and his VIPER alarm has the remote start feature.

My switchblade didn't come with the split ring, so if anybody else gets one without it, it has to be a small one like the one in the picture.

I got the 2 way alarm (updates you on status of car) as well as the remote starter (which requires an additional bypass module for MT) for about 500 installed.

The dealer quoted 500 for a new fob, 120 to look into the problem, and the previous owner of my car even had the rear bumper sensor replaced at 600 bucks. I didn't want to get involved with that again

Just make sure that the switchblade FOB you will be buying matches(FCC ID and Visteon #) and it'll be like a consolation prize.

Thank you for helping this newbie out. You saved me around $140 dealer quote. 🙏🏼

I think his remote is actually broken though since reprogramming didn't work and he just lied to me. Nevertheless, here's how to reprogram!
  1. Make sure all doors are closed (trunk and hood too)
  2. Open the driver door and keep it open
  3. Sit in the car and put the key in the ignition (in the off position)
  4. Now (driver door is still open) you will have to do the following three steps within 24 seconds...
  5. Turn the key to On position (don't actually start it), then back Off. Do this step 3 times in a row (on-off on-off on-off)
  6. Now find the little rubber *** on the inside of the car where the driver door closes onto. Its the rubber thing that pushes in and tells the car that the door is closed, should be by your left elbow. Push that in three times in a row.
  7. The doors should lock and unlock a couple of times. When they stop, press a key on your remote twice! Most people use the unlock button.
  8. Now pull the key out of the ignition and the remote should be programmed.
Unfortunately it didn't work for me. I might take it into Mazda and have them see what it needs (maybe the car's receiver is broken, who knows!). One thing you can do apparently is go into AutoZone and have them test your remote to see if it is emitting a frequency. That tells you that the remote is at least functioning! I'm trying that tonight. And I'm buying new wiper blades, the douche I bought the car from has one broken one and one not working well... Ugh.
