keyless has gone on vaca!!!!!

So I was running around trying to get some work done the other day and in the middle of the rain my keyless entry died and I was standing in the rain with boxes in my hands pressing the unlock button with no success After getting soaked I thought hmmm that sucks my remote must be dead... Got home grabbed the other set of keys and thats not working either... so does anyone know where to begin searching for a problem... ie fuse or something?

Make sure your trunk and hood are fully closed.

why dont you just use the key to open the door?

then find out if ur battery is dead. (your car and your remote)

if its not, tow it to dealership.

Something is wrong with your keyless entry (duh)

does the light on the remote blink when you press it ? if it does then the remote probably works, but not your keyless entry control unit (the one behind the glove box)

Yes they have, when they fail to fully close the trunk or hood!

I assume you can open your doors with your keys and drive it off, right ?

if yes then, its just that your remote battery might be dead.

buy a new one for couple of bux and replace it urself.

I have an 04 and i've had my remote go out once. I put new batteries in and it still didn't work. Took it to the dealership and they had to get me a new remote.

with the keys, you should be able to open the door at least.

if you cannot start the car with it, yep, your key's RFID chip was somehow fuxked up. mostly caused by other singals. there are reports that cell phones can fuxk those chips up, well if its close enough to the phone(like an inch) for an extended period of time.

but its a warranty issue I would say, so bring it to dealerships !

My remote just did the same thing a couple of days ago... I changed the battery, took it apart cleaned it all out and still nothing. I'm going to give a call to the dealer tomorrow to see how much it will cost to get a new one, since my time machine just turned 50K (no warranty). Any other possibilities out there that don't involve Mazda Techs taking advantage?

First, make sure the remote is, in fact, dead. If you have another remote, does that one work? Check to make sure your trunk and hood are shut tight.

For a decent price on a remote, try eBay. Make sure the numbers on the remote match yours. You can reprogram it yourself using instructions in the shop manual or in the DIY section of the forum, but I think you need at least one good remote to be able to program the new one. Check out the DIY thread to be sure.

i had the same problem and the tech at my dealership gave me this solution:

sit in your car with the door open and no key in the ign

insert key and turn key to on(but do not start) and off 3 times
Ie: on- off -1 on-off 2 on-off-3 leave the key in the ign.
now close and open the door 3 times as described above the locks should actuate, now hit your remote
you just reprogrammed your clicker if that doesnt work try it with taking the key out after the on off sequence.

Not quite...

No luck, I tried all the different scenarios and still got nothing... Although I did get a couple odd glances from the people in the parking lot opening/ closing my door 12 times... Any other ideas? Ebay? Mazda? Aftermarket?

I am having the same issue, neither FOB works, and the car runs. Fine. Did any of you folks above get this resolved? if so how.

I had a similar problem. I have the credit card key and it would work fine starting the car and it would open the doors when I pressed the button. But the remote unlock, lock, trunk open wouldn't work - even standing right next to the car.
I got my other key and that worked fine. Then I tried the first key again and it started working...

I hate to drag up an old post but at least I ran a search. My keyless entry fob has stopped working so I bought a new battery and still nothing. I've tried the reprogramming directions and that did nothing. Does this work on an '04 8 or was this reprogramming method started with a later year model ? Also, the instructions specifically say to turn the car on and back to the "off" position. There is no off position on the steering column. There is lock and ACC. I've tried both ways and still nothing.
