slowpoke......

question for you Slash
If my injectors are maxed out ....... would i make more power letting it run a little lean at peak whp or by reducing the ethanol content a little and running full rich ?

it's in the high 10s but goes to 11.5 at 7-8000 as the injectors max out.

^I probably wouldn't want to go much higher than that. full e85 maybe 12.0 but I would be scared. Just my opinion. Guys on 7club with full e85 tuning for 12.2(if I remember correctly) under high boost

I had some logs that were seeming to indicate that running leaner was producing more power. But I agree with yoymom on not going leaner than 11.5 or 12.0 at most. While I did accidentally lean out to 12.5 at somewhere in the neighborhood of 15psi with no perceptible knock I wouldn't recommend doing it on purpose. Also, I didn't get far enough to figure out where the power started to drop back off on the lean side.

Question for you Brettus now that you've been playing with ethanol for a while does it seem to you that you can push more air more easily than with straight petrol?

Well it is pushing more air now than ever, due mostly to the work done to reduce backpressure. There are no signs of ping so far so it's looking good .

The question above was more :
Currently injectors are maxed out and afrs are 11.5 on E48.
Say I dropped ethanol down to E35. Injectors would no longer be maxed so I could increase boost and bring afrs back to the same point . Which scenario would make more power ?

Ahh gotcha. My answer: so just get some ID1K's In all seriousness I think dropping down to E35 due to injectors is taking a step backwards. the benefits of ethanol seem to drop off quickly from E50 down to E10. I'd rather see you run larger injectors and stay E48.

Oh and regarding the greater airflow I had done nothing about backpressure with my set up yet running higher ethanol content was pushing more air vs gasoline. I was thinking it was due to the charge temp being cooler and more dense.

Hows the break in going Slash?

Brettus remember, your never allowed to go back to the other housing now. Just a reminder.

I really wish i had access to e50 n such in my area... Perhaps thats too advanced for me yet anyway..

Yeah , just re-reading those notes on ethanol testing confirms this . Although they were only talking quite a small % extra air. (1.5% for E50)

After having a chat with the tech at ATP I've learned that the gtx76 vs gt82 is only a marginal spoolup improvement at the best of times (300 rpm) and that with my smaller housing maybe no improvement at all. Bit of a letdown given the effort I put in getting the gtx76 wheel in there . He also said it was unlikely that I would see any improvement if i tightened up the clearances . Will probably do what i can anyway when i next have it all apart ....just because !

Don't mean to thread jack but since you asked break-in is going well! Holding vac more consistently at -20in/hg.

I don't think ethanol is too advanced for anyone. Actually, comparivitly speaking I'd say pump gasoline is too advanced and everyone should run ethanol preferably. Wish I still had access to ethanol also, probably wouldn't have popped my last motor. But on the flip side I'm really happy to have gone through the rebuild process. I learned quite a bit and also (hopefully) have a better motor because of it

EDIT: by "everyone should run ethanol" I meant everyone who is boosted

So with the new turbo are you pushing more air because you're running different fuel, or are you running same boost pressure and same fuel as old turbo? If you're running the same fuel and boost, would you be able to post a graph comparing MAF airflow output of the two turbos? (perhaps this is the same as the VD graph you posted already)

Wouldn't be a valid comparison because I also reduced back pressure with the two stage exhaust, changed the fuel , then changed the turbine housing in conjunction with fitting the new wheel. I suspect the wheel has had very little effect in comparison to the other three changes given that it supposedly flows less than the 82 wheel.

Just go REW already and make 600 rwhp on pump gas or 800+ rwhp on e85...

1) I like where your head's at!

2) Most people would be thrilled with your results to this point, but I guess Brettspeed will never rest on his laurels

I don't need/want that much though . It's as much about seeing what I can do with the renesis engine as anything else .
