12v Outlet not working

Hey guys, my 12v outlet for the cigarette lighter and whatever else you could possibly fit into it isnt working.

Wiring and what not is a nightmare to me and I'd much rather not mess with something I am not to confident in playing around with.

Can someone explain to me on how to remove the center unit ash tray and pull it back to gain access into the wiring system? and also does anyone have any remedies or quick checks they would do to see what could be the problem as to whats going on?

Id really like to be able to use my radar detector.
Appreciate all the comments

Forgot to mention already changed the fuse, no luck on that.

Which is why I want to check the wiring.

Look for a short shifter DIY...and then pull out the ashtray...If you have a MM check the outlet before you pull it all apart. Sometimes it's the plug...not the socket

I have a question.. what are you plugging into the cig adapter that makes you think it isnt working? Does the thing you're plugging in have an inline fuse and have you checked that?

The fuse wasnt the problem.
I already changed the 15 amp fuse for the cigarette lighter and come to no avail.

I've used the cigarette lighter, my radar detector and phone charger.
None of them worked.

I found the short shifter DIY and pulled out the ashtray, and found the problem.
One of the wires were cut.
How. I wouldnt be sure. Im guessing the old owner was a bad care taker.
I shredded a bit of the hosing off and rewrapped it.

Problem fixed :]
everything works.
Thanks dannobre.
