Life After 8K RPM....
threw snow tires on...Got new 17' steelies as old ones were bent
Took it on a 1300kms trip 650km one way non stop..Ohh boy She flewwww..
Do I need to mention she has 261k on the clock, original motor and tranny.
The best part was, there was only 2 other 8's I came across in 1300 km trip :-)
She is going for a tune up soon, new plugs, new fluids, a wash / polish and wax.

Cleaned my MAF sensor and e-shaft sensor today. Here are some pics of the e-shaft sensor before and after:
Before: that little shiny spot in the middle is the actual color of the sensor underneath all the grime
Here's the grime that came off of that little spot seen in the first picture:
After! So shiny!

A couple of weeks ago I had Lucky 7 Racing in Duarte CA check my compression. My 8 is an 07, and at 96k I wanted to have it checked out, especially since I had noticed lately that idling was a bit rough. Turns out it was a really good thing I did. My compression was low.
Yesterday I took it to Sierra Mazda in Monrovia with recommendation from Lucky 7 to see about what can be done. The cynic that I am, I was prepared to hear "no" to everything. To my surprise, yes, my extended manufacturer warranty is in effect, yes, I can have a new motor at no cost, and yes, labor is also covered. They gave me a loaner, a zippy Mazda3, and waived the compression test fee ($240) since I had the print out from Lucky7. TOTALLY STOKED.
I can't wait to get her back. I asked Santa for a bunch of carbon fiber accessories and he said yes. <3

93 octane gasoline is 2.83 a gallon here!
Just took my 8 out for a little hoon session in celebration before it got dark. (Gotta keep eyes out for the po-po)
Damn this car is beyond awesome. It still brings that same excitement of day 1 ownership, I love it.

If you mean Miles it's approaching 97000. If you mean moles, none in either case.
I'm slightly bewildered how great Sierra Mazda has been. They are charging me zero, including the loaner car. I only have to pay for extra parts like plugs and coils. So happy to know that I'll be driving my beloved for a long long time. I need to find out if the new motor will come with any warranty.

I just turned over 145,500 miles a few weeks ago. 2nd motor. Original failed at 90k. Its an 07 so yeah its higher miles but I baby the crap out of her. Just got new snow tires put on a few days ago. Roxy has so many outfits now, I'm trying to get rid of some. I could open a damn parts store.

@Jazzmeson, or anyone with the eyelids for that matter, do you notice any change in light output (specifically the high beam)? i am considering purchasing a set, but light output comes first.
as for what i did to my 8...
I replaced the courtesy door lights, parking lights, and corner lights with some ebay leds. looks so much better!
side note: can there be laws in place the prohibit idiots from doing things on cars? originally i thought that the corner lights were in fact lights. but when i though about it, mine were never lit, and couldn't really recall seeing others lit. so then i just figured they were reflectors and let it go. then i thought about it again more recently and realized they were in fact lights. so while i was replacing my burnt out parking lights i went ahead and pulled the corner lights. while the driverside one was burnt out, more importantly the PO disconnected the wiring harness completely. i was irritated to say the least.

First expenditure on my 2010 RX8
Today, I picked up my car back from the Dealership. Last week it was sputtering in the morning on cold starts and the engine light came up. They diagnosted the problem. Code P4020 showed up, which means, Catylistc failure. The Dealer gladly ordered me a new one no charge. ( I just clicked 10,000 kms.) But then for the cold start sputtering the Dealer suggested new coils and spark plugs / wires. These tallied up to $750. I argued that the coils should be under warranty also. They said NO. Any Comments ?

I would ask for Jaime at Sierra Mazda. He took care of everything. They may or may not charge you for their own compression test since the dealer has to submit their own test result to Mazda USA. I think I got lucky they didn't charge me for their test because I told them was going to Browning Mazda in Cerritos if they couldn't give me some kind of incentive to stay (Browning is 25 miles closer to my house). The total cost for me was just the coils, plugs and wires, and came out to be roughly $700. The new motor comes with standard motor warranty of 1 year or 12k miles.
The new motor is amazing. I followed the recommended break-in process so it was a while till I could really drive it, and it was the most frustrating period of time. Now I realize how sluggish the old motor was. I suppose I didn't realize it because by far the 8 has been the funnest car I've ever owned.

I just put carbon fiber eyelids on my 8 I got for Christmas. I can't perceive any noticeable dimming. I used plastic polish to really clean up the headlights before I put the lids on, so that's something you might consider. Not saying yours need it but the clouding of outer covers seems to be common problem.
I recently had my corner markers changed to white ones. Like you, I thought mine was broken (I thought it was supposed to blink as turn signals) but apparently it's more like fog lamp and only comes on when you have your headlights on.

Popped the cover off the used 09 S2 differential I bought from eBay with 81,000 miles on it... It was a bit of a gamble not knowing the driver's driving habits and maintenance history. I guess I'm lucky, all the parts inside are in excellent shape and the fluids on the cover were still slightly golden brown.

Lucky! That looks fairly well for one that's a little over 80k miles. Did the seller mention why it was being sold?

It's been a while by the way. I haven't been hitting meets, LAPD are very strict these days.

Coils are consumable items and are not covered by the powertrain warranty. If I were you, I would consider spending $580 on the BHR ignition system and never having to worry about it again. Otherwise, you will be replacing coils and plugs about every 20K miles.
