THE NEW SAFETY RECALL FOR DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG INFLATOR CONFIRMED IN THE FOLLOWING COUNTRIES...
North America (Americas)
Japan (Drivers Side Inflator ONLY)
Mexico(Drivers Side Inflator ONLY)
Update December 20, 2014...
IT APPEARS MMC JAPAN IS REFUSING TO INITIATE ANY RECALL FOR THE Takata Made
DRIVERS AIR BAG INFLATORS FOR RX-8’s SOLD IN COUNTRIES OR REGIONS NOT LISTED ABOVE.
LET ME ASSURE YOU THAT THE Takata INFLATORS ARE IDENTICAL IN ALL SERIES I RX-8’s
(2003- 2008 Production) SOLD WORLDWIDE.
I SUGGEST THOSE WHO HAVE NOT BEEN CONTACTED BY THEIR LOCAL MAZDA DISTRIBUTOR OR
LOCAL MAZDA DEALER CONCERNING THESE DEFECTIVE DRIVERS SIDE AIR BAGS TO INITIATE
A CONVERSATION AND DEMAND ACTION TO RECALL AND RENEW YOUR Takata INFLATOR.
MAZDA KNOWS MORE THAN MOST THAT THIS RECALL IS A SAFETY ONE, THANKFULLY
NO DEATHS OR INJURIES HAVE BEEN RECORDED SO FAR, HOWEVER I WOULD BE
AGGRAVATED IF MAZDA FAILED TO POSITIVELY RESPOND TO YOU.
ASK MAZDA WHO IS LIABLE IN THE EVENT OF DEATH OR SERIOUS INJURY FROM
AN EXPLODING Takata SUPPLIED INFLATOR IN YOUR RX-8.
ASK MAZDA WHY ARE RX-8 OWNERS IN THE USA, JAPAN AND MEXICO DEEMED PRIORITY OVER YOU.
CONSIDER NOTIFYING YOUR LOCAL MEDIA/NEWS IF YOU ARE DISSATISFIED WITH THE OUTCOME.

For anyone in Canada. I found this:
Driver side Recall
Road Safety Recalls Database
and
Passenger Side for 2004 only
MAZDA issued a recall on the MAZDA6, and RX-8 models - Recalls & alerts - Healthy Canadians Website
I have contacted my local dealer with my VIN (05 GT) before i found these and they said that i do not have any outstanding recalls. I will attempt to go directly to the dealer with these printouts and see what can be done.

Waited long enough and NOTHING is happening for Series 1 RX-8 owners in countries outside of North America and Japan in regard to ALL Drivers Side and most Passenger Side Air Bag Inflators.
Strongly suggest for your safety that you pressure your Mazda Distributor (Not Dealer) to do something about this...go to the media even, or your local Politician.
This is totally unacceptable as it says our Mazda Customers LIVES are more important in the North America (including Canada) and Japan than they are anywhere else in the world.
And please do not listen to the BS that it does not apply to Right Hand Drive Cars, well what is Japan then?, the Takata INFLATOR is the same use worldwide (Part Number) for these models, Series 1 RX-8 of all years, and 'GG' Mazda 6 and "GG' Mazdaspeed 6 or 'GG' Mazda 6 MPS.
So here is some harder evidence and repair the procedures in North America (only).
(Note: 'spilt' the 'Repair Procedures' PDF into two (4 & 5) as it was too large to post here)

Return Instructions for defective INFLATORS....

40th anniversary Edition
BTW I got my safety recall notice today from Mazda for the driver's side airbag inflator replacement.
My ride is a 2008 40th anniversary edition RX8 purchased new in May of 2008 in New Jersey. Notice says parts are not yet available and they will notify me by mail (Mazda) when parts are available and then I will contact the dealer to have free repair done.
I am sure everyone is getting the exact same letter from Mazda. I called my dealer, one of the biggest volume Mazda dealers in the U.S. and confirmed everything has to wait for parts. From all the other info out there it seems Takata is way behind in producing the replacement parts,so we just wait, keep driving, and hope there is no rupture and deploy.

Yes great if you are an S1 owner in USA, Canada or Japan.
Losers in every other Mazda country.

That is so unfair, ASH8 do you think it has anything to do with weaker transportation safety laws in some countries? Or is it more about market share sales numbers in those countries?

I just got my recall notice in the mail. Honestly I never expected one, so it comes as a nice surprise. I don't know when I will get it done, but I will call first to make sure they actually have the parts in stock.

I got one of those in the mail a couple of days ago. Wonder when the second, saying parts are available, will come.
I suppose the replacement parts will be from Takata? Not sure if that makes replacing them worthwhile.

I would assume they would be from Takata but I have no idea. I received a letter for my passenger airbag and tossed it when I read I had to wait for another letter.
U.S. Will Fine Takata $14,000/day for Resisting Air Bag Probe
In case anyone would like to know.

Thank you for the geography lesson.) I only ask because when I contacted Mazda North America with my VIN less than 6 months ago they said I wasn't part of any recall. And when I spoke to my local Mazda dealer a few months ago, they had not heard of any recall either. I have owned my '07 since new, and I have yet to see any letter. Does any one have any ideas on when I might expect a letter? Or who else to contact?

Your DRIVERS Side Air Bag is part of the recall 7914J (2004-2008 RX-8)
NHTSA Campaign No. 14V-344

40th anniversary Edition
ASH8 and CRAZ8 I am sure the problem is the fact that in the US the NHTSA has been behind forcing the car manufacturers in all US states (not just humid US states) to issue the broad recall, even though Takata refused to do just that.
Yes CRAZ8 as a North American RX8 owner I would insist directly to Mazda NA that you get the recall also, but the Canadian equivalent of the NHTSA has to be the one to order and FORCE Mazda NA to act in Canada . In the US if the NHTSA orders it and it isn't done, they have the legal right and can threaten and impose fines on Mazda NA.
I am not sure if the Canadian equivalent of the NHTSA has the legal right and can impose fines on Mazda NA for failing to act on the broad recall in Canada. My guess is if they don't face fines in Canada then Mazda won't rush to do the recall.

I just got off the phone with Mazda Canada. They said they could not comment as the issue is under investigation. They have not decided that this is a recall issue, as of yet. I then called Transport Canada-safety defects reporting. And they said there has been no decision as to if or when there would be a recall in Canada.
