It's that time of year again, where the contract ends and you get that itch to get a new spanky cell phone.

So what the heck kind of plan should we get?

Rught now my wife and I have a family plan with Rogers Wireless. ~$57 and change taxes in. That also included call forwarding.

Should we keep that and just go get them new doohickies? Or should we look at getting a new plan altogether? Should we stay with Rogers or go Telus?

For the phones. I want one that works. Period. I hate phones that have crappy signals. So if it works, I'm a happy man. If you got a new phone, does it work/or does it suck.

Here's the "and stuff" question. Has anyone switched to Rogers for their home phone? I've been debating if I want to do this, but with the savings, it's attractive to me. I know that there are bundles with Rogers that will add to the savings, so that also makes it attractive too.

Side question--I'm on dial up (go ahead, be :shocking:, lol) since my area has not (for the last 8 years it's been around) made it possible for us to get DSL, Cable is the only option for us (wireless isn't, we live near the bottom of a hill). So which is the best one, or is it Rogers again, lol. I'll be using it for regualr emails, graphic work (BTW I do graphic work, pm me for quotes), general surfing of sites and forums.

I appreciate all the help with this. My wife and I have been looking for a little while now, but with her being in the last leg of the Preggys, I don't want to drive her around too much.

I don't know if Rogers will offer a combination plan, whereby you get discounts on your service if you get cell, landline, and cable DSL/TV from them. Bell did.

Phones have planned obsolescence written all over them. Get what you need. Unless your wife is going to be needing super-fancy options when the baby is born (and she won't - trust me...) there's little need to get something outlandish.

Ended up getting the Razr for both my wife and I. I think it's stupid that Cellphone companines don't give their existing customers breaks on new phones. $0 this and that for new customers...I know it makes sense for them $ wise, but as customer :wallbash:

I have the Sony Erickson Sa710 from Rogers. It doubles as my digital Camera and it takes wicked pics. It also gets awesome reception. even on the 3rd level basement parking garage in Royal Bank Plaza. I am very happy with Rogers as I switched from Bell in July.

blackberry 8700

I had the razr(black) like 8 months ago. It's a nice phone but now that I see everyone with it, it has lost its uniqueness.

btw the blackberry is simply amazing.

Oh, definitely call them up and tell them you want to cancel your service. They practically lick your boots trying to get you to stay... <cough> Bell licks boots <cough>...

lol, well, that licking will happen in 3 years...we changed our phones and contracts blah blah blah before even thinking of getting them to lick our boots. Damnit, I could have had free boot licking.

I have been with Rogers for 12 years, when I was able to get a Bd. of Ed. plan. With some mods I'm still getting the best deal I can find. Feature for feature, Bell Mob. doesn't compare, nor does Telus or any of the others. I have free evenings after 6:00 and all weekends and 250 min. I have an older Motorola T720 and am looking to replace it with the newest BB, the 8700r in '06, although right now it's pricey. Check out cell/PDa reviews on CNET. Very reliable source.
BTW, I agree with you, Howard, that Rogers' upgrade costs are a bit of a gouge for existing customers.

Problems? Don't get mad. Complain creatively. Regular Help staff are unable to do much beyond the script. Ask to speak with Customer Relations..You may get the old song and dance .. but be persistent.. They do listen as noted above when you threaten to bail. They can come up with some amazingly customer-friendly fixes.

Hey Alan,

Well, I got fed up and picked up a new cell phone package, but I will have a "talk" with them when the time comes. It's hard being loyal when they give very little reason to, lol.
