View Full Version : Seibon KS hood installed
mikeb 09-02-2005, 04:31 AM Got the hood from Island motorsports in buena park, ca
paid 589.00 plus tax
not the cheapest but they got the hood in one day and made me happy
what do you guys think??
I wanted to paint it red but I may leave it carbon fiber
Tamas 09-02-2005, 04:47 AM I just don't get this whole fascination with carbon fiber... and the stock hood is fine IMO. The only thing I would want is some vent to decrease the heat in the engine bay, but I have not seen any aftermarket hood that I'd really like.
But as long you like yours, that's all what matters :)
Tigster 09-02-2005, 06:59 AM I like it alot, I would have painted it to match the car. But I like the styling it is one of the only hoods I like.
I like it too! How much lighter it is compared to the stock hood? Could you also please take some (hopefully bigger) picture outside?
L8APEX 09-02-2005, 08:43 AM I would leave it, you spent the money for CF, show it off. IMO red looks pretty good with the CF hood.
Bigger pictures outside the garage...
Mike,
No worries! Looking good! Leave the CF, but i would have the mesh painted black..
AForce8 09-02-2005, 10:00 AM I want that exact same hood...at least now I know what it looks like on a velocity....congrats
Gambit 09-02-2005, 11:05 AM Leave it CF....it looks good
NVMYGT 09-02-2005, 11:09 AM Leave it CF, paint the hoods black, and then give it to me! ;)
Beautiful. Could you please take some full car pictures with more lighting?
XDEEDUBBX 09-02-2005, 11:25 AM Looks good. Looks like you've finally seen the carbon fiber hood light!
ALWAZL8 09-02-2005, 12:12 PM Dazygirl has this same hood ordered for her V/R..... cool!
Nemesis8 09-02-2005, 12:15 PM Leave it CF Mike, looks really sharp
adrian-1 09-02-2005, 12:21 PM It does look good on red.
I'm waiting for someone to sell the fiberglass version of either the TS-II hood or the new vis racing razor hood. I just need the vented option, no need for CF.
BlueEyes 09-02-2005, 12:38 PM Paint it red. Maybe it's because you resized the pics, but those vent meshes look terrible. Paint them or ditch them.
drifter_d 09-02-2005, 12:39 PM agree with Adrian-!, the vis racing razor hood (similar to the r-magic) looks awesome and allows for heat dissappation for those of us who need/want a cooler engine bay.
dd sends...
Moostafa29 09-02-2005, 12:40 PM Looks great. Take some pictures in the day time!
XDEEDUBBX 09-02-2005, 12:40 PM im not a fan of the mesh either but it would look good if painted in black
BlueEyes 09-02-2005, 12:42 PM It does look good on red.
I'm waiting for someone to sell the fiberglass version of either the TS-II hood or the new vis racing razor hood. I just need the vented option, no need for CF.
It's interesting, the cf is really just fibreglass wrapped in a layer of cf with a big fat price tag. You would think they would offer the fibreglass version at the same time.
mikeb 09-02-2005, 12:53 PM thanks for all the comments
I will take more pics tomorrow
and Im not sure what color to paint the mesh but probably i will do black
BlueEyes 09-02-2005, 12:55 PM can you ditch the mesh?
mikeb 09-02-2005, 01:08 PM I think you could ditch the mesh but then to me it would look unfinished or like it has holes not vents
the mesh is kinda loud looking and painting it black will help tone it down
not to mention by k&N intake is twice as loud now
williamngRX8 09-02-2005, 01:19 PM leave it CF mike. looks great. morever, i dont think CF can be painted though.
i just wonder u don have grill mesh on your MS bumper
mikeb 09-02-2005, 01:27 PM I do have black mesh on my ms front
and cf can be painted-- may mintblue spoiler was cf and I painted it red
IZoomZoomI 09-02-2005, 01:43 PM finally got the hood :) Very nice. How is the weight compared to stock?
mikeb 09-02-2005, 01:56 PM the hood seems lighter but Im sure not by much
I love the way it looks though
LiL BenNy 09-02-2005, 02:04 PM i think better pics would be nice lol... and paint the mesh black and it will look sweet as hell
Whitey 09-02-2005, 02:26 PM My vote is to paint it. To me CF just looks like a replacement part that you couldn't afford to have painted, so you just put it on anyway. I can't stand it.......but apparently everybody else on the planet just loves it so oh well. To each their own.
L8APEX 09-02-2005, 02:29 PM in person, it is obvious that it is not an unpainted part. The other day I saw an S2000 with a full CF body kit, not my taste, but it definately did not look like the guy could not spend the bucks to get it painted.
English 09-02-2005, 02:30 PM I wanted to paint it red but I may leave it carbon fiber
Just paint the rest of your car black, and it will look just fine! :p
Outlaws eXtreme 09-02-2005, 02:39 PM How's the fitment? Any issues on that? Also take a pic of the underside of the Hood :)
mikeb 09-02-2005, 02:46 PM outlaw
fitment is good
I put it on at 1am so I have not seen it durning daylight really
I will take more pics and the under part of the hood tomorrow
It fits good
vIce^gRip 09-02-2005, 03:06 PM I would say to Paint it Mike. If your Eyelids Trunk and Spoiler were CF it may look better, but I am feeling that the Painted VR would really make the lines and vents really snap out. IMO!
said7 09-02-2005, 04:44 PM Another great option for carbon fiber is to put some red pearls in a clear and spray it. It keeps the look of CF but add a mild tint to blend better.
My friend did it on his car and it looks amazing.
Nice Hood mike! I want one myself. How much was shipping?
mikeb 09-02-2005, 04:49 PM no shipping
I picked it up locally in buena park
Outlaws eXtreme 09-02-2005, 04:55 PM Keep it CF... looks good on Red. Nothing wrong with that. Besides, Mikeb is a youngin, not no old person... he can look pimp in his ride without looking silly.
If he was a 60 year old man fixing his ride with CF, then ya, paint it red.
XDEEDUBBX 09-02-2005, 05:46 PM the next 60 year old person i see in a lowered rx8 with a cf hood will receive a punch to the back of the head.
shortcrakr 09-02-2005, 05:49 PM look sweet. keep it cf. and i think the black paint will make the mesh look 10 times better.
Xyntax 09-02-2005, 06:03 PM Nice choice Mikeb! That's my favorite hood as of the moment. Red goes well with CF parts more than any other color.
:D
kwescott 09-02-2005, 06:17 PM glad to see you finally got your hood. Good choice. Glad, also, to see that there is a local vendor that can get parts for us quickly.
If you leave the cf alone, you may find yourself contemplating new rims.......so you may want to get it painted.
mikeb 09-03-2005, 05:17 PM Instead of taking daytime pics I drove the hood over to hertiage mazda in Huntington beach to get painted red. They painted my mirrors red and my mintblue spoiler red and I just decided might as well paint the hood red so everything matches.
Tamas 09-03-2005, 05:33 PM Good decision :)
Kel Rx8 09-03-2005, 11:23 PM I like it the way it came
but Im sure it will look good in red also so you cant really make a wrong move.
NVMYGT 09-04-2005, 12:28 AM It would have been nice to see it before painting...I'm sure it will look nice.
\\Konig\\ 09-04-2005, 01:02 AM I can't wait to see the pics!
kwescott 09-04-2005, 01:54 AM Are you going to be keeping your stock hood for the winter months. I know we don't get that much rain down here, but still.....
Audioslave8 09-04-2005, 02:09 AM You'r car looks mean as hell man, awesome.
mikeb 09-04-2005, 04:58 AM Im not keeping my stock hood
my hood should be done by friday and I will post pics
I already painted the mesh black
Razz1 09-04-2005, 01:14 PM Got the hood from Island motorsports in buena park, ca
paid 589.00 plus tax
not the cheapest but they got the hood in one day and made me happy
what do you guys think??
I wanted to paint it red but I may leave it carbon fiber
Sorry I don't like Carbon fiber. The vents look practical.
Looking forward to seeing it. Funny thing is things look different in person.
If I like it in person I may decide to buy one and get it painted.
Razz1 09-04-2005, 01:23 PM Hey Mike have experienced better performance with the new recall flash?
mikeb 09-04-2005, 02:49 PM I dont have a new flash
I think mine is like m or something
hey mike i like the hood. nice man. its TR1GGERx1. sam. long time!
punishr 09-05-2005, 03:51 PM Looks awesome Mikeb.... I have been looking at getting this same hood for a while now.
restob 09-11-2005, 12:04 PM Is there anyway to cover the vents when is raining or does the water gets re-routed so the water doesn't affect the engine. Also, did you intall it yourself or someone helped you out with it? The reason I asked these questions is because I'm considering ordering the Seibon Carbon Fiber Hood (Series - TSII) for my RX-8. Thanks.
kwescott 09-12-2005, 12:38 PM Any pics yet with the paint? I thought you said something about getting the hood back from the paint shop on Friday.....
LucasET 09-12-2005, 12:56 PM It's probably too late, but you should have done something like a red candy coat. You'd still be able to see the pattern of the carbon, but it'd be red. Oh well. I'm sure it still looks cool.
mikeb 09-12-2005, 06:23 PM rain going through the vents should not hurt the engine
I am getting the hood back today with paint at 6pm
I will post pics tonite
Im too cheap for candy pearl red paint or whatever
it will be just vr paint for 500
kwescott 09-13-2005, 12:39 AM Hmmmm, its 9:38.....I'm anxious to see. But then again, they are going to be night pics. I guess I'll check tomorrow...maybe some daylight pics :)
LiL BenNy 09-13-2005, 01:00 AM ditto pics pics pics!!
mikeb 09-13-2005, 03:16 AM Ok
I got the hood at 8pm
I had it on by 10pm
It fits well
daytime pics soon
you can see the K&N intake through the vent
mikeb 09-13-2005, 03:19 AM here are so pics when the hood was carbon fiber
I think it looks ok either way painted or just carbon fiber
what do you guys think
L8APEX 09-13-2005, 08:22 AM I still like the CF look better. Looks like the paint has a little orange peel to it, but that could be just the pic. I do like the mesh painted black better.
said7 09-13-2005, 09:43 AM i like the CF better,
If I were to paint it maybe just the sides and wrap the front. Leaving the middle vents and top CF.
said7 09-13-2005, 09:45 AM rain going through the vents should not hurt the engine
I am getting the hood back today with paint at 6pm
I will post pics tonite
Im too cheap for candy pearl red paint or whatever
it will be just vr paint for 500
It would actually be cheaper cause there is no need for a base coat.
speeddemon32 09-13-2005, 09:52 AM if you want my .02 i like the painted better. i have never been a big fan on CF hoods, it makes it look like the car needs to be painted. like your getting close to have a complete car.
anyways, you asked for input, there is my input.
P.S. it looks great! thats the hood i wantt o get (and paint it yellow)
ECHO1 09-13-2005, 10:25 AM  your car...is the sh*t! i like it better painted, esp. with the black mesh
Gambit 09-13-2005, 10:50 AM I think it looks better painted with the black mesh, too
that fourth pic of the painted version you put up looks awesome
mikeb 09-13-2005, 12:59 PM I appreciate all inputs
Im kinda on the fence
the carbon fiber looked better than I thought but I will post some daytime pics later today
XDEEDUBBX 09-13-2005, 01:05 PM came out pretty good but i liked the CF better, Maybe cause my car is red and i have a cf hood as well.
10kRPMS 09-13-2005, 01:31 PM I love the carbon fiber look
Tamas 09-13-2005, 01:39 PM Painted looks much better - I like it. But then again, I don't like the look of carbon fiber, so...
wsup mike. congrats on the hood. looks nice. so u decided to go with that eh? well i think looks good either way. but im jus a CF guy so yeah. see u around mike. i'll call u up sometime
-Sam (TR1GGERx1)
mikeb 09-13-2005, 02:38 PM sam
I was gonna get your hood but visracing sucks and I drove to city of industry to pick it up and they didnt have it like they told me they did.
I got this hood through island motorsports in one day
very good service from them
LiL BenNy 09-13-2005, 03:12 PM i like it. the cf looks better on your car pics then the demo one... idk why? im undecided what i like better... maybe if the CF mesh was painted balck? i just htink the silver made it looks cheap, all in all nice ride
kwescott 09-13-2005, 09:23 PM Nice to see the finished product. I, too, agree with many who feel the black paint on the mesh made a tremendous improvement. I like the painted version best, but I guess it's disapointing that the gaps between the hood and bumper are easier to see when painted than when in carbon fiber. This is the only bad thing I've noticed about all brands making carbon fiber hoods for our car, they cant seem to get the gap right.....
Good choice on hood though Mike...you would have ended up with the same gap with all the other hoods out there.
BlueEyes 09-13-2005, 09:34 PM You did the right thing painting it. Bare carbon looks lame. Looks pretty tight now.
Aoshi Shinomori 09-13-2005, 10:20 PM Mike I really like the new hood. Not so much of a fan of bare carbon fiber but that is hot! Now you have to take a new picture for your avatar :)
mikeb 09-13-2005, 11:14 PM I know I need a new avatar badly
here are some more clear pics
search92833 09-13-2005, 11:17 PM Looks beautiful man! You have good taste in what a beautiful car should look like. By the way whats the name of the store where you got it?
StealthFox 09-13-2005, 11:23 PM wow that looks cool! im into CF when its done right, but i think you made the right decision by matching everything(going painted) instead of just having CF
the black mesh painting was a big improvement, in fact i was considering that exact hood and i was going to paint it black if i had got it. i plan on importing an odula racing hood instead because it will go w/ my bodykit better
Kel Rx8 09-13-2005, 11:28 PM damn the little kids in the neighborhood must love ya
btw I cant get over how that house in back of your car must look by looking at the 2 driveways
kwescott 09-14-2005, 12:27 AM This is the crucial month guys. Take it from Mike's lead. This is the final month before 7stock...get all your mods done now...:)
Moostafa29 09-14-2005, 12:31 AM Holy shit that is clean. I honestly felt you should have left it like it was, but now after seeing the end results there is no doubt in my mind you made the right move. Now I want one....damn you!
XDEEDUBBX 09-14-2005, 01:45 AM This is the crucial month guys. Take it from Mike's lead. This is the final month before 7stock...get all your mods done now...:)
i was hoping to have my rims by 7stock.. =(
did you get your wheels yet keith?
mikeb 09-14-2005, 02:15 AM Looks beautiful man! You have good taste in what a beautiful car should look like. By the way whats the name of the store where you got it?
I got the hood from a shop in buena park called island motorsports
they got me lots of stuff for my last car also
they are really efficent
Im still getting uste to the hood being on the car
the vent is right next to the intake so now my intake is twice as loud
Tamas 09-14-2005, 02:19 AM Mike, this looks very good. It was the right thing to get the hood painted, and the black mesh is cool too.
Honestly, I was not much into an aftermarket hood (didn't really see the point the stock being aluminum), but this one might just change my opinion :)
Umbra 09-14-2005, 09:39 AM Looks a little cheesy. The main vents should be farther forward and the little vents should go away completely. Painted looks a little better I guess.
restob 09-14-2005, 11:53 AM Is there a small gap in the front between the hood and the bumper or is it just the pictures playing eye tricks on me?
restob 09-14-2005, 11:55 AM Sorry, one more thing. Anyone has a picture of a Black RX-8 with a unpainted CF hood? Thanks
mikeb 09-14-2005, 12:29 PM there is no gap in the front
Outlaws eXtreme 09-14-2005, 01:07 PM Black with CF is a pretty obvious choice for CF hoods... it flows with the colors. If you have other cars, the flashy colors works nicely with CF materials too. It's all a matter of preference. I think Red is one of those colors that would work ok with CF theme... So would Black, Blue, Titn. Grey. If you go with Yellow with CF, hope you have other things around the car that is also CF to blend it in better... it looks out of place otherwise. Silver is a so-so color to leave as CF. White is pretty blah to leave it CF... looks really out of place. Green RX-8... hmmm would work, but most of the owners are in their 40-50s and would looks pretty bad for someone of that age driving around with a CF hood.
brothervoodoo 09-14-2005, 01:14 PM Good choice painting it red and making the grills black.
orbist 09-14-2005, 05:14 PM Now you've done it Mike.... hmmm maybe just one more mod for mine... LOL
Seriously thought, that is spot on! I love it.
So so so so so glad you painted it - I know nobody likes my decals, but I don't like the CF look - each to their own - but yeah, that looks so much better painted - emphasises the vents perfectly.
Love the line running from the side vent pointing at your Gandors.
Another spot on mod Mike :)
mikeb 09-14-2005, 05:19 PM thanks orbist
I just think once you have a bodykit, spoiler, mirrors ,etc
I hood is a must
Iwannarex8 09-14-2005, 06:07 PM The hood looks great both ways! One question though, since it seems you have a red and black theme going would you consider painting the strakes and fuel door black and getting black rims to finish it off? I think it would look hot like that
mikeb 09-14-2005, 07:08 PM anyone care to photoshop^^^^^^^^
I dont plan on doing that
in that case I could have left the hood, mirrors and spoiler carbon fiber since initally there were carbon
Overport 09-14-2005, 07:15 PM I just don't get this whole fascination with carbon fiber... and the stock hood is fine IMO. The only thing I would want is some vent to decrease the heat in the engine bay, but I have not seen any aftermarket hood that I'd really like.
But as long you like yours, that's all what matters :)
Ditto. The stock hood practically weighs ounces. This one looks like it has quite a bit of vents, though.

I dont plan on doing that
in that case I could have left the hood, mirrors and spoiler carbon fiber since initally there were carbon
Yes true you could have done that........BUT you have a unique look here ......you would be hard pressed to find someone with that hood painted red with black vents. You would commonly see it CF hood with CF mirrors and wing but Im talking about black, the same black used for the vents, I cant tell if its flat black or glossy but I personally think it would be a couple more unique details for your car, think about it black strakes and fuel door??you never see that.
Hopefully someone will photoshop to see how it looks.

are you like aesthetically retarded or something?
a carbon fiber hood on a nordic green would be probably be the nastiest thing in the world. and how would silver be a so-so color with carbon fiber? silver is one of the best cars along with black to have carbon fiber on. and white cars look awesome with carbon fiber and black rims. silver and white contrast great with the dark grey/black look of carbon fiber and paired with a wing or trunklid and gunmetal rims it looks great. and i won't even comment on the yellow/cf theme, its almost as bad as green.
StealthFox 09-14-2005, 08:16 PM anyone care to photoshop^^^^^^^^

bah stick with the clean red look, no need for a two tone
mikeb 09-14-2005, 08:40 PM stealthfox
have you seen outlaws rx8
its awesome
Razz1 09-15-2005, 12:58 AM Man, I'm sure glad you painted that Red. It sure is sweet now.
Didn't know about the back side vents near the windshield, but from the last photo they match well with the side vents in the fenders.

Et voila :
kwescott 09-15-2005, 04:34 PM i was hoping to have my rims by 7stock.. =(
did you get your wheels yet keith?
sadly no, I had problems with the insurance company and the flood in my house. I had to make sure they were actually going to cover the costs before I allocated 3500 to rims/tires. This issue was resolved just yesterday, but now I doubt I would even get my rims by 7-stock...even if I ordered them today. I know what I want at least. I'm gonna go with the staggered Volk Gt-7 in Diamond Black setup.
kwescott 09-15-2005, 04:39 PM Sorry, one more thing. Anyone has a picture of a Black RX-8 with a unpainted CF hood? Thanks
I took some of Triggers black 8 and carbon fiber hood at the Torrance meet. Do a search for Torrance and you should get two threads...one a Socal event thread, and another in the multimedia section where Trigger started a thread to show pics from the event. Hope this helps. I have it on my computer at home...let me know if you're not able to find it and maybe I could send it to you by pm.
LiL BenNy 09-15-2005, 04:58 PM mike dont do the black and red theme! i wanna be the first to do the two-tone! but mine will be blue and black/cf... but i do think the black rims set it off nicely.. :p
black unpaint cf pics..
heres sams....
stalker? maybe...
(love his car... still saving for hood and spoiler sam)
kwescott 09-15-2005, 05:15 PM ..stalker (stalking me or Sam)?

It was merely my opinion. I've been in the import scene since 1994... have 3 cars sponsored in the past, (From companies such as Nitto & Wings West) and that was what I've come to the conclusion of the Import look of CF hoods.
How many cars have you fixed up for car shows?
Outlaws eXtreme 09-15-2005, 05:42 PM stealthfox
have you seen outlaws rx8
its awesome
Thanks, I'm sure StealthFox will have the chance coming SS8. :) Hope to see your car StealthFox soon. Also Mikeb, was going to check the fitment of the hood in person, it looks pretty good... conservative. I think that's the thing now at showcars... look subtle, but full of power. At least RX-8 has one of the two so far... just need to wait for more Power.
LiL BenNy 09-15-2005, 05:54 PM ..stalker (stalking me or Sam)?

Man, when I first read Stealth's response I immediately gringed, held my breathe, wondering how Outlaw would return the compliment...you know, with his history of thread closing verbage.
Outlaw, I'm impressed with your reserved response. Much more subtle than I was anticipating. Well done. :)
restob 09-15-2005, 07:16 PM Thanks for the reply on the photos of a Black 8 with the cf hood. With what I seen on this thread, I placed an order for the Seibon Hood. I went with the TSII style. btw Mike, is this a do-it-yourself job? or do I need a body shop to intall it? Thanks.
mikeb 09-15-2005, 08:20 PM you can install the hood yourself in minutes
its only four screws restob
Iwannarex8 09-15-2005, 08:21 PM orbist

what about black chrome rims?? that would look hot also.
restob 09-15-2005, 09:06 PM Thanks Mike; I will post pictures as soon as I get it on.

yeah he has had some pretty unique body kit setups (first in the US to use the auto bahn sports front bumper i believe)
what does he run now? mazdaspeed? i remember a while back he was trying to pawn off his AB because it was too low for his work parking lot curb clearances or something like that.
Outlaws eXtreme 09-16-2005, 02:30 AM Pawn off StealthFox? Why do I get the sense that you are trying to be a smartass about this? Are you really that insecure in real life that you have to make ignorant comments, and "try" to attack my opinions on the hood?
mikeb 09-19-2005, 08:52 PM the guy that painted it at HB mazda is awesome
he painted my mirrors and spolier also
williamngRX8 09-19-2005, 11:30 PM mike where did u buy those ms kits ?
how much it cost u including painting and fitting job ?
StealthFox 09-20-2005, 02:13 AM It was merely my opinion. I've been in the import scene since 1994... have 3 cars sponsored in the past, (From companies such as Nitto & Wings West) and that was what I've come to the conclusion of the Import look of CF hoods.
How many cars have you fixed up for car shows?
were you for the bare CF or did you sugguest painting?
StealthFox 09-20-2005, 02:21 AM Man, when I first read Stealth's response I immediately gringed, held my breathe, wondering how Outlaw would return the compliment...you know, with his history of thread closing verbage.
Outlaw, I'm impressed with your reserved response. Much more subtle than I was anticipating. Well done. :)
wow, i did not know he had a reputation for that, and his response did seem quite reserved. i certainly recognize him easily, he has quite a bit of posts and has been around

i do not understand what you are saying about being a smartass, but i am sorry if you misinterpreted my words, i did not mean any offense.
as for your opinions on the hood i'm "stating my opinion" on what i personally think(and most reasonably aesthetically inclined persons) is acceptable for carbon fiber because it can definately get out of hand and needs to be done right, and that not all paints can have large carbon fiber pieces and still look great(but of course that doesnt matter because its all subjective, some people think having their lime green civic hatchback with 5 different colors of plastic for thier unpainted bodykit nail gunn'ed onto the side of their car looks excellent)
r0tor 09-20-2005, 08:27 AM i like the look with it painted... making me want one
mikeb 09-20-2005, 03:05 PM will

dazygirl415 09-29-2005, 03:51 PM Car looks sweet Mike. Very nice.
I'm surprised you painted it red but aren't sure if it wasn't better CF. Did the CF really look that good in person?
mikeb 09-29-2005, 04:14 PM I really liked the carbon fiber
I was surprised but it worked on the car
I painted it because I already painted over the carbon fiber mirrors and spolier
mahuna 10-08-2005, 05:50 PM eather way , painted or cf , the hood looks great on your car

you took my rx7club.com line... ;)
Takumi39 02-01-2006, 10:32 PM I'm forced to hardily disagree on your CF looks blah with white comment... I think that white looks dope as hell with CF especially the Pearl White. I plan on picking up the KS hood as well and I'll post pics. I guarantee it will look tight. Come on tax return money......
Takumi39 02-01-2006, 10:32 PM Black with CF is a pretty obvious choice for CF hoods... it flows with the colors.
