sorry i didnt post this earlier- busy day.

basically it adds some steps to the previous TSB and adresses the fact that there is now a Z/N flash. one note of importance is that it clearly states that they should do a drive test to monitor cat function and that if it is not within spec to replace. in other words cat failure linked to flooding by Mazda. which is a good thing. in fact some of the procedures say "dont do this or that" so they dont fry the cat while fixing the flood.

about the flash- this clearly says again(like it did before this update) that the current new Z/N flash is the same as the ORIGINAL H/M. so if you have that there is no need for the newest one.

I like the TSB regarding flooding..., new spark plugs. Specifically, modified for heat range, with the inclusion of a low temp leading plug. I'll be sure to mention this the next time my 8 floods out...

It's actually not that complex to perform this one yourself. Aside form the diagnostics stuff, I performed most of the old TSB when my 8 flooded. I just couldn't replace the plugs with new ones. If I'd had new ones, she might not have needed a trip on that flatbed.

I'm thinking of making a rotary repair kit. Contents:

1 paper bag (deep breaths)
1 copy of the TSB
1 syringe
1 5w20 (your choice on brand)
1 4' length of surgical tubing
1 cup
1 full set of new spark plugs
1 1/5 of your choice of alcohol (for when it doesn't work)
1 attractive bag with rotary emblem and the words "Don't Panic" on the front in large helpful letters

MSRP should be around 15 bucks, but I'll add on an extra hundred so it'll fit the expected rotary price range. :P Any takers?

I just had the new flash done a couple of days ago and now, my car that NEVER flooded. Now floods. It's flooded twice and is a hard start at times. Also, It flooded after a 45 minute drive and sitting for 15 minutes.

I was told by my dealer that there are new spark plugs now. Not sure if it's BS or not.

oh yeah, forgot the price of the plugs, maybe I'll charge $500! ROFL

I want more info on the TSB for the gouges/scrapes. Mine has deep gouges, I just figured they were from my wife's heels... mmmm, stilletos.....

OK, Ok, they were form MY heels... ;)

Seriously though, I wonder if that's where the scratches came from.

AHA A CONVERT!! that's my evil plan- to gather around me more and more people that understand the flash versions like i do- then we are going to confuse the rest of the people with some babbley non-sense and take over the world from guy321:D

Good example of why not to fix it if it aint broke ;)

but we dont know what flash he got or what else might be wrong with his car. none of the flashes should cause flooding.

I had no issues with the car. I got the "L" and it stayed there until Mazda sento out the letter. Fuel Eco dropped from 21 mpg to 15. I got my 30k done and the performed the updated recall flash. and now the car floods (x2)and hard starts (x4) but my eco is back to 21mpg

none of my habits or styles have changed. I am not stupid. The car was fine before the updated 1/20/05 flash.

I drive about 95% highway if that helps. I also shift @ 4 or 5 and cruise @ 80.
