I know this may seem like a crazy idea, but what about putting black shoe polish on a tire (sidewall) and buffing it to a shine? Anyone think this would work?

Anyone think this would work? I know someone who has done this to a Volvo S40's body trim. From 5 feet away, it looks great, but from up close, it looked like it was (badly) applied with a brush. It was streaky and blotchy - I think it dries much too quickly. It seemed to be VERY hard to get it on evenly............. Just my $0.02. dreamgetter1 05-27-2003, 11:37 AM [QUOTE]Originally posted by Fd3BOOST Why, just buy mothers products like the rest of the world. I figured it might last longer and not be as messy (on rims, as well as dust collecting)? I'll give it a try and see what happens. I think it might work better on rubber than plastic body moulding? Get the Meguiar's gel.. it lasts quite a while and looks brilliant. You can get a low or high gloss. I usually opt for the high-gloss :) sixspeed 05-27-2003, 12:57 PM Without wanting to sound like some of the Zaino-worshippers from other threads, Zaino Z7 (i think) Tyre Coating is damn good. Just makes the tyres look brand new again. Deep black finish, like new, without the glossy, greasy finish from most other tyre shines. -andy- red_base 95 05-27-2003, 01:47 PM It's very easy to apply, controllable, and looks good for several weeks. Additionally, when applied to black molding, it stays very well. It also smells yummy :D dreamgetter1 05-27-2003, 02:52 PM thanks for the tips!!:D Hercules 05-27-2003, 03:13 PM Originally posted by sixspeed Without wanting to sound like some of the Zaino-worshippers from other threads, Zaino Z7 (i think) Tyre Coating is damn good. The Meguiar's gel is easy to apply and relatively cheap, and lasts far longer than the 'spray on' tire shines, so that's the option I will always opt for. sixspeed 05-27-2003, 06:25 PM Zaino or Zymol? I've not found the Zaino stuff to be cost prohibitive. It's only about $15 for a bottle isn't it? I'm still on my first bottle of it a year after I bought it - and I use it on both my cars. I find it lasts at least 2-3 weeks before it needs reapplying. -andy- Hercules 05-27-2003, 06:43 PM Originally posted by sixspeed Zaino or Zymol? Toadman 05-31-2003, 11:02 PM Shoe polish (like Kiwi) is made for sealing and shining leather, not really rubber or vinyl. I'd love to use Zaino, but you have to direct-order it. Can't get it at the nearest AP store like Meguiars. takahashi 06-02-2003, 12:25 AM Originally posted by Hercules Get the Meguiar's gel.. it lasts quite a while and looks brilliant. I ABSOLUTELY agree with that. HIGHLY RECOMMANDED. It smells like grapefruit Bubblegum tough. :D takahashi 06-02-2003, 12:31 AM Originally posted by Hercules Get the Meguiar's gel.. it lasts quite a while and looks brilliant.
