View Full Version : Temp Gauge
XxChrisxX 08-17-2009, 10:13 PM I have a gauge cluster installed and recently the temp gauge stopped giving me readings. Unfortunately, i bought the car with the gauges already installed, so I do not have any directions or any idea of what wires to look for under the dash. Anybody know what color wires i should look for or where i should start? Car electronics are a new thing for me. Thanks.
Chris
Jedi54 08-17-2009, 10:14 PM do you have a picture?
we might be able to tell what kind gagues they are and we can go from there.
you should have a sending unit somewhere in the engine bay pulling coolant temps for you.
Jedi54 08-17-2009, 10:16 PM see 3rd picture in my Sticky thread. :D:

XxChrisxX 08-17-2009, 10:35 PM Thanks Jon
XxChrisxX 08-17-2009, 10:38 PM Nice digital gauges there, Jedi
Jon316G 08-17-2009, 10:41 PM Might want to check the ground for the temp sender unit.
Depending on which on you have, it could be in the same place as Jedi has in his post, or its on the large radiator hose.
Jedi54 08-17-2009, 10:42 PM thank you sir.
if the gauges aren't reading anything, it could be as simple as a bad ground.
pop the hood and look for a sending unit device. it might look a little different then my RB one but it'll have wires coming out of it.
Jedi54 08-17-2009, 10:43 PM haha!!
jon: great minds...
XxChrisxX 08-17-2009, 11:03 PM Well, it doesn't look like the set up you have. I wasn't able to find the sending unit. I would take a pic under the hood but my camera just died on me. On a side note, i just got my blue footwell lights in. That will be my next project after i figure this thing out. If you have any other ideas, let me know. Im going to check out their website again and see if i can get any ideas. Thanks again for the help
Jon316G 08-17-2009, 11:08 PM Its probably on the large radiator hose.
Refer to the pic below, its the hose running horizontally across.

XxChrisxX 08-17-2009, 11:22 PM Still no dice. I will take another whack at it tomorrow when I have a bit of sunlight. Gunna see if i can't fix my camera too. Thanks for stickin with me on this.
9krpmrx8 08-18-2009, 12:17 AM Man, look at that rust.
Jon316G 08-18-2009, 12:19 AM Man, look at that rust.
LOL... one year attempting to drive in the winter and a few years without a garage will do that ;)

Man I don't miss that.
XxChrisxX 09-03-2009, 05:27 PM Well, the mazda certified mechanic at the dealership couldn't find the wire for the temp gauge under the hood either. Could it some how be wired into the built in gauge?
Jedi54 09-03-2009, 09:32 PM that wire has to go from the gauge to SOMEWHERE in order to get a reading.
can you pop the gauge out and follow the wire?
XxChrisxX 09-04-2009, 02:57 AM I was trying to avoid that but i guess its what i have to do
