MazdaManiac 10-05-2009, 05:11 PM I started to download and it said "file does not exist". When i click the link it says "The page cannot be found"
I just checked it from two separate computers and my Palm Pre. Works fine.
Something on your end.
EDIT - Lemme guess: you didn't follow the directions and right-click?
MFslacker22 10-05-2009, 05:19 PM I just checked it from two separate computers and my Palm Pre. Works fine.
Something on your end.
EDIT - Lemme guess: you didn't follow the directions and right-click?
I right clicked first and it didnt work, so i tried just clicking it and it still didnt work??
Huey52 10-05-2009, 05:20 PM "site not available ..." in my case too. I turned off all 'net security to no avail as well.
Yes, right clicked and attempted to save as...
L337fpc 10-05-2009, 05:24 PM You got it Jeff, Ill clean it all out when im outta class. This is odd since I just reformatted yesterday.
Thanks again for your quick responce.
WingleBeast 10-05-2009, 05:35 PM any tips on this issue from people who had made it work?
MazdaManiac 10-05-2009, 05:36 PM Oh boy. Hold on...
jsjjr 10-05-2009, 05:48 PM Hey jeff,
I just tried to add my map, and I get a lovely message:
http://imgur.com/tLYyL.jpg
I had 1.2.0.5, I just updated to the latest version 1.2.2.1. I can't import the maps under either version.
Lol... same here. I uninstalled everything, reinstalled both the Manager and Updater..still getting same message....
Total badass idea to have the links instead though..
MazdaManiac 10-05-2009, 05:51 PM For the compatibility issue, make sure you are downloading the most current calibration in the list, not one of your old ones. THere might be a compatibility issue there that I can resolve at a later time.
For those that are just having access issues, make sure you are doing the following:
OPEN THE E-MAIL
http://www.mazdamaniac.com/cobb/download_tutorial/1.jpg
http://www.mazdamaniac.com/cobb/download_tutorial/2.jpg
http://www.mazdamaniac.com/cobb/download_tutorial/3.jpg
http://www.mazdamaniac.com/cobb/download_tutorial/4.jpg
This was just verified with jsjjr's and l33sfpc's calibrations on 5 separate computers, 2 of which do NOT have the AP software on them.
The other three have a mix of old and new software.
MFslacker22 10-05-2009, 05:59 PM hmm i did that multiple times. Still says "the page cannot be displayed". It saves a page on the desktop that says the page cannot be found.
What should i do? all internet security is disabled.
edit: I also tried it on multiple computers, mac and a pc. same thing
MazdaManiac 10-05-2009, 06:05 PM What should i do?
I dunno. I tried it in Netscape, IE, FireFox and Opera as well as the native browser on my phone and it always worked.
I'm calling other people around here to try it as well, but the two that have done it aren't having an issue.
Can you take screen-shots like I did to demonstrate the issue?
mysql101 10-05-2009, 06:13 PM Just send me an updated map and I will get to the bottom of it!
WingleBeast 10-05-2009, 06:14 PM yeah im following those directions, and for some reason its saying the file does not exist. Its obviously on my end because i tried to do the same thing to other peoples files that were sucessful and all of them failed.
Update: used my roomates laptop with firefox and it worked fine.
MazdaManiac 10-05-2009, 06:15 PM Everyone who can, try this:
CLICK ON THIS LINK AND FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS ABOVE (http://www.mazdamaniac.com/cobb/completed/test/index.html)
(I promise you won't be Rick-Rolled - Its just a test link to a base calibration stored in the same sub-folder as everyone's calibrations.)
mysql101 10-05-2009, 06:18 PM the link is 404
http://www.mazdamaniac.com/cobb/completed/test/index.html

MFslacker22 10-05-2009, 06:19 PM deleted for bandwith
jsjjr 10-05-2009, 06:23 PM Hey Jeff,
Still no go. I am able to click the 'test' link you provided above and see the file. I'm able to download it into a folder, but I get the same message as the most recent file. I've uninstalled and re-installed the updater and manager several times.. Not working for me..
MazdaManiac 10-05-2009, 06:24 PM Just send me an updated map and I will get to the bottom of it!
Accomplished!
MazdaManiac 10-05-2009, 06:26 PM the link is 404

Its supposed to show up as "404" if you left-click on it.
You have to right-click and save-as.
MazdaManiac 10-05-2009, 06:29 PM The only thing I can figure is that there is some sort of file association that is blocking your connection.
I guess I'll have to convert all of the files to ZIPs or RARs to ensure compatibility.
(BTW - Who the hell uses a Mac these days?)
MFslacker22 10-05-2009, 06:29 PM OK I GOT IT. YES!!. i dont know for some reason it just worked. Thanks for the help!
ALKEESMOKER 10-05-2009, 06:35 PM Thanks Jeff, but sorry. I can't download the new map either when I click "save target/link as".
My error message reads "Internet Explorer was not able to open this internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be founr. Please try again later."
dondo 10-05-2009, 06:51 PM ^ try firefox. mine said the same thing in IE but worked with firefox.
now it just says my newest map is an old version and can't be loaded into the ap manager... i'll investigate more tomorrow..
MazdaManiac 10-05-2009, 06:57 PM I'm going to re-send everyone's e-mail in a few minutes.
All linked files have been changed to a ZIP file.
That should clear up everything.
ALKEESMOKER 10-05-2009, 06:57 PM Hey jeff,
I just tried to add my map, and I get a lovely message:
http://imgur.com/tLYyL.jpg
I had 1.2.0.5, I just updated to the latest version 1.2.2.1. I can't import the maps under either version.
Okay. Forget the downloading problem. It worked with google chrome though the file size is a lot smaller than the previous maps.
I'm getting the above error message too now. Updated accessport an manager before I tried to add any maps.
ALKEESMOKER 10-05-2009, 06:58 PM ^ try firefox. mine said the same thing in IE but worked with firefox.
now it just says my newest map is an old version and can't be loaded into the ap manager... i'll investigate more tomorrow..
Thanks. Downloaded with chrome.
MazdaManiac 10-05-2009, 06:59 PM Belay that message - I won't be resending anything.
New links already reflect the change to a ZIP file.
jsjjr 10-05-2009, 07:20 PM Sorry Jeff. It's working now (zipped file). I just couldn't get the other way going.
MazdaManiac 10-05-2009, 07:22 PM Sorry Jeff. It's working now (zipped file). I just couldn't get the other way going.
Don't be sorry - its all up to me to get it right.
I'm glad it worked for you. Hopefully, everyone else will have equally impressive results. lol
FazdaRX_8 10-05-2009, 07:41 PM yeah the zip file format got it working great!!! thanks!!!
WingleBeast 10-05-2009, 08:07 PM well i f-ed up somwhere...
the map is uploaded to my AP but when i try to flash the new map, the map is greyed out on the ap and it wont let me use it. i updated my dongle, ap, and ap manager. uninstalled my ap, reflashed the basemap twice but nothing will let me put that map on the car. what did i do wrong?
mysql101 10-05-2009, 08:14 PM I upgraded my ap software then tried to upload the new map to the ap, but the ap wouldn't show up in the manager software. I had to reboot to get it to show. Not a big deal, but wanted to mention it just in case anyone else has this issue.
FazdaRX_8 10-05-2009, 08:36 PM well i f-ed up somwhere...

same problem here.....
L337fpc 10-05-2009, 08:36 PM Hey Jeff, making it a zip fixed it. Good stuff!!!
Z0oMzo0m 10-05-2009, 08:39 PM either im being an IDOT, or something is wrong. I got the map saved, and uploaded to acc. manager. But it wont let me drag it over to the accessport..
Z0oMzo0m 10-05-2009, 08:40 PM Hey you guys posted same problem... and at same time... lol
Failed to copy "mm 200678 mt... 4_0_3.ptm"

L337fpc 10-05-2009, 09:01 PM My map is greyed out :'(.
I did the full clean of all cobb software, updated the Manager and the AP.
FazdaRX_8 10-05-2009, 09:09 PM yeah I can get the map on the AP got the latest beta firmware, plug it into the car turned the car to the on position and tried to flash it with the 4.01 file, but its grayed out, while the base map is white.
Z0oMzo0m 10-05-2009, 09:09 PM well i got it, dont know how lol, but it loaded..
went to car todo the final touches, and greyd out as well.. :(
W.E... gooing to bed.. (stomps feet)
jsjjr 10-05-2009, 09:13 PM Grey matter here too..
WingleBeast 10-05-2009, 09:21 PM weird. glad its not just me
mysql101 10-05-2009, 09:53 PM I thought you guys were a bunch of dorks who didn't follow instructions, but I just tested and my map is grayed out too. I followed both manager and updater links and upgraded before uploading the ap maps and going to the car.
MFslacker22 10-05-2009, 10:50 PM well this sucks
FazdaRX_8 10-05-2009, 11:03 PM I thought you guys were a bunch of dorks who didn't follow instructions
my map is grayed out too.
:bootyshakLOL
MazdaManiac 10-05-2009, 11:12 PM Are all you "greyed-out" sufferers on the newest AP Updater software and AP firmware?
FazdaRX_8 10-05-2009, 11:16 PM for me I figured I had the latest and tried it, it was grayed out, so I looked for updates
then I updated the software (AP Updater), and then did the beta firmware update (as per instructions) on the ap, but to no avail it was still grayed out
WingleBeast 10-06-2009, 12:05 AM yep, did all the updates, and even the beta stuff, nothing worked. the base map can still load up fine.
MazdaManiac 10-06-2009, 12:37 AM OK. Probably something got stuffed in the serial number validation.
Everyone that is having a "greyed-out" issue, send in a submission the usual way and I'll tackle it tomorrow.
Tack a note onto your submission with your current firmware version info.

When you say the "USUAL WAY", you mean send the last data log setup again?
idle, cruise at 60, 2nd to 3rd pull, and map used.. "along with the newest map"?
Huey52 10-06-2009, 06:03 AM AOK download now Jeff. Thanks very much! :)
Jon316G 10-06-2009, 06:13 AM Download link works great.
Tried it with left clicking the map and also right click->save as and they both work just fine.
Also have issue uploading to AP. I'll resend my submission with my firmware version.
jsjjr 10-06-2009, 07:31 AM kewl, i'll tackle it this evening...at work now.
mysql101 10-06-2009, 08:47 AM Are all you "greyed-out" sufferers on the newest AP Updater software and AP firmware?
yes, I updated everything. the old maps still show up as usual, but the new one is greyed out..
tonight I'll email you what the ap says (serial #, firmware ver, etc)
chrisis 10-06-2009, 08:58 AM None yet, but they have a few other big projects going on right now (a hardware update for the AccessPORT and new software for the MS 3 and MS 6), so it might be a little bit longer.
Hey Jeff
any news from Cobb?
MazdaManiac 10-06-2009, 11:38 AM Hey Jeff
any news from Cobb?
Unfortunately, no and it is starting to get frustrating because I have several European ROMs over there and I'm am starting to get annoyed by the Honda project taking time away from us.
I'll call over there again today.
For everyone having problems with the "gray-out", send a submission with your 11 questions, and just state the problem.
You don't need attachments - I've already alerted Hund about the influx of seemingly "incorrect" submissions.
Be patient - Hund has had some serious computer problems the past week (crashed drive, blown router, etc.), so I might not get to you until this afternoon.
FazdaRX_8 10-06-2009, 12:36 PM Just sent Mine
Huey52 10-06-2009, 01:20 PM I spoke too soon. The download was AOK, but I too have the greyed out custom file when trying to flash the ECU.
Will send the file via email as instructed.
MazdaManiac 10-06-2009, 03:25 PM Everyone with this issue:
Completely uninstall your AP Manager and AP Updater software.
Delete the folders they were in and, if you are so inclined, delete any registry keys that relate to the software.
Then, download the newest versions (1.2.2.1 for the Manager and 1.2.2.2-11434 for the Updater) and reinstall.
Then, verify the problem.
I don't believe this is going to fix it, but Christian at Cobb is insisting that we verify the complaint.
Thanks!

I installed the newest versions of the AP software on my work PC which never had them installed before.
I was able to install the map onto my AP (which I couldn't before) but the latest map was grayed-out while trying to install it onto the car.

OK. Thanks for the feedback. I figured that wasn't gonna fix it.
I am going to send you a file directly to test. Look for it in your e-mail - it will be a calibration in a ZIP. Try it and report back as soon as it is convenient for you.
Thanks!

No problem. I should be available as long as I don't get called away at work ;)
MazdaManiac 10-06-2009, 05:38 PM File sent. Let me know your results.
Jon316G 10-06-2009, 05:48 PM File sent. Let me know your results.
Did you send it to the correct email ************?
Nothing in my inbox and nothing in the spam folder ;)
Strange that I got your email for the direct download link but not this.
BTW.. My work has your site blocked (don't know why) so I can't check for it there.
Sorry for being a pain :)
heyarnold69 10-06-2009, 05:54 PM Tuning --- The more you wait... the more you want it :)
Jon316G 10-06-2009, 06:12 PM If you want Jeff, send it to my "direct download link" page and I'll access it with a laptop (I see access points outside of my work :))
FazdaRX_8 10-06-2009, 08:32 PM well I will be online, send me a pm if you want me to test something, am home with laptop and RX-8
jsjjr 10-06-2009, 08:43 PM Jeff, just saw the pix of your car on BHR's website..... Damn, that's a bad b*tch!
MazdaManiac 10-06-2009, 08:48 PM I think I got it figured out.
The newest version of the software broke the serial number locking feature. The new calibrations aren't getting the serial number info from the AccessPORT correctly, so it doesn't identify your AccessPORT as yours.
I tried it on my car and had the same problem - I took a known-good calibration, re-saved it with the new software and absolutely NO changes and the AccessPORT showed it as grayed-out. When I deleted the serial number info, it showed up in white again.
Hopefully, I'll see a new build of the software tomorrow.
jsjjr 10-06-2009, 09:05 PM Yeah.....thanks for tirelessly working on this issue Jeff.. mad props!
WingleBeast 10-06-2009, 11:15 PM sweet!
MazdaManiac 10-07-2009, 02:03 AM Did you send it to the correct email ************?

Strange that I got your email for the direct download link but not this.
BTW.. My work has your site blocked (don't know why) so I can't check for it there.
Sorry for being a pain :)
Dude, what is up with your freaking e-mail?
I have a few users that occasionally get my stuff blocked, but seem to receive nothing - even stuff Hund sends directly.
Your e-mail is listed in my database (by your submission via the 11 questions and your return address on your submissions) as your user name here at gmail.
It couldn't be any easier and plenty of people get my stuff through Gmail.
The e-mail was sent at 3:31 pm. It was 12k with the attachment. Three other users got the exact same e-mail at the exact same time (one of them on Gmail as well) and all received it.
It doesn't matter - it won't fix the problem (now that we understand it). Its just baffling.
Jon316G 10-07-2009, 02:27 AM Dude, what is up with your freaking e-mail?
Wish I knew bud... I think its strange too.
Especially since I've received 5 other maps from you with no issues.
AND I received the email notice from you detailing the direct download link.
I haven't messed with my filtering or anything.
Your e-mail is listed in my database (by your submission via the 11 questions and your return address on your submissions) as your user name here at gmail.
Yup... that's the correct and my only email address (besides work) :dunno:
It doesn't matter - it won't fix the problem (now that we understand it). Its just baffling.
Baffling indeed.
Oh well, at least you came up with a better idea to distribute the maps to everyone.
I'm sure others in the future would come across this same confusing issue too if you continued using email.
The direct download link should be one less hassle on your end.
Sorry I couldn't have been any help earlier.
Huey52 10-07-2009, 06:39 AM edit: deleted. "If you have nothing nice to say ......"
Jon316G 10-07-2009, 07:54 AM edit: deleted. "If you have nothing nice to say ......"
Much better post Huey52 ;)
nc.wiles 10-07-2009, 01:15 PM Do we just need to delete the serial number information off our AP and that will fix it, or are there new files that need to be sent for us to correctly install it on our cars?
MazdaManiac 10-07-2009, 01:35 PM Do we just need to delete the serial number information off our AP and that will fix it,
There is no way to do that. Peeling off the sticker will violate your warranty and the number is embedded in the ROM.
The serial number is the only way your AP knows it has your calibration file on it, anyway.
nc.wiles 10-07-2009, 02:01 PM Sounds good. Thanks.
Z0oMzo0m 10-07-2009, 08:38 PM (FOR THE PEOPLE WHO DID NOT RECEIVE AN EMAIL!!)
The calibration you received recently will not function because of a bug in the current AccessTUNER software and its relationship to the current AccessPORT firmware.
If you downloaded your most recent update, you undoubtedly found it to be “grayed-out” in the tuning menu on your AccessPORT. This is NOT something that you have done wrong and there is nothing you can do on your own to correct the issue at this time. This is NOT an issue with your AccessPORT hardware.
I have submitted a bug report with Cobb and they will be providing me with an update to my software that will allow me to correct the situation. Hopefully, this update will come my way relatively soon. Until then, I hope you will bear with me as there is nothing I can do to correct this situation until then.
You will receive another e-mail once the bug has been addressed indicating that you can download the updated version of the most recently transmitted calibration.
Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.
- Jeff Abrams
Jon316G 10-07-2009, 08:40 PM (FOR THE PEOPLE WHO DID NOT RECEIVE AN EMAIL!!)
I actually got my email :)
Z0oMzo0m 10-07-2009, 08:46 PM :) well, im sure most or all will receive one, just because it doesnt have a MAP attached to it LOL.
But thought id just post it out there :D
MazdaManiac 10-07-2009, 09:08 PM My only concern is that some e-mail clients might see the recipient as BCC and reject it.
MFslacker22 10-07-2009, 09:46 PM Is it solely on cobb to fix it? If so you think it will take them a while?
alz0rz 10-07-2009, 09:50 PM Seems like a pretty big issue.. so I imagine it should be pretty quick, especially since whatever they did from the previous version to this one that screwed it up should easily be traceable and reversible...
Jon316G 10-07-2009, 09:53 PM If its a compatibility issue with the AccessTuner software, can't you just revert back to a previous version of the software and save the maps there?
Jeff appears to be a smart guy with computers so I'm sure its more complicated than that or else he would have just done it.
MazdaManiac 10-08-2009, 02:18 AM If its a compatibility issue with the AccessTuner software, can't you just revert back to a previous version of the software and save the maps there?
No. The previous version is not compatible with the current firmware.
Even if I could, I would have to go back and redo three weeks of work.
Is it solely on cobb to fix it?
Yes. The software is completely useless at the moment.
If so you think it will take them a while?
I sure hope not since ALL of their AccessTUNERs for the RX-8 are dead in the water until they do.
Since I service over 90% of the existing RX-8 market world-wide, I am the most affected by the problem. However, The RX-8 is a fractional market for Cobb, getting them to move quickly can be problematic.
I'm hoping for a solution before the end of the week.
laythor 10-08-2009, 02:38 AM I really doubt cobb is going to take a "wait and see" approach to fixing the issue. It's in their best interest as a business to fix any issue that basically bricks their product. RX8 might be a small portion of their user base but every user will be reluctant to buy a product that a manufacturer allows to become useless through their inaction.
Juansito 10-08-2009, 04:42 AM Cobb operates very fast when it comes to problems with their COBB product itself and as this software problem effects the cobb im sure there will be a speedy fix.
Huey52 10-08-2009, 08:39 AM OK, I'm going with the flow on this issue much better today.
'figures that I get into the AP tuner game just as the thing magically transforms into a brick. :(
At least I have the MM Base installed.
MazdaManiac 10-08-2009, 10:09 AM Yeah, I'm sorry about this, guys.
I can't even do my regular tuning dates because I can't make calibrations.
heyarnold69 10-08-2009, 10:17 AM Any chance your still coming to the North East one of these days? Soon perhaps? :)
FazdaRX_8 10-08-2009, 11:30 AM I hope they get it fixed so I can do my last datalogs to get the final tune before snow hits!!!!
MFslacker22 10-10-2009, 04:12 PM any updates?
mysql101 10-10-2009, 05:00 PM he'll update when he has new info to post.
it's not always quick for someone to put in a patch and recompile the software with the changes, test it, then release it.
laythor 10-10-2009, 08:44 PM i'm suprised something like this hasnt happened sooner.... at least it won't happen again.
MFslacker22 10-10-2009, 11:08 PM Good news! I just updated my accessport again because I was bored. Went out and tried it and it WORKED! Im running 1.5.0.2 on the accessport. It asked me to update my dongle when i plugged it into the car(never did that before) but it successfully loaded itself onto the car. So anyone having trouble try updating your accessport again.
edit: I also reinstalled the accessPORT updater as well
Jon316G 10-11-2009, 04:04 AM I too updated my AP and can now install my latest map
I ran into some "complications" along the way though...
I first downloaded/installed the AP Updater and AP Manager software using the links on the first page of this thread.
When I attempted to run the updater, the AP continuously said "Initializing..." and would never connect.
The Updater software said to press "Reconnect" on the main menu on my AP, but that never worked.
I also tried unplugging/reconnecting the USB connector and that didn't work either.
What was strange was that I was able to install the AP Manager software and connect to the AP without any issues.
I then closed the Manager software (so the AP said "Reconnect" on the menu) and went back into the Updater software and pressed reconnect on the AP.
But it still wouldn't connect/update the AP.
I then went to the Cobb's website and in their firmware section there are two links in the 'Step-by-step Instructions' section to download the latest Updater and Manager software.
http://www.cobbtuning.com/info/?ID=4106
I downloaded those and installed the updater.
To my surprise the Updater actually worked this time and updated my AP.
I then redownloaded my map through Jeff's direct link site and uploaded the newest map.
Once in my car I plugged the AP into the dongle and it wanted to update the dongle firmware.
Once the dongle was updated I was able to install my newest map.
No more grayed-out maps!!!
Thanks to Jeff and everyone at Cobb for their hard work!
MazdaManiac 10-11-2009, 06:46 AM NEW FIRMWARE
Please use the AP Updater and install the fixed firmware.
You can then use the calibrations provided in the download link from my site.
Huey52 10-11-2009, 08:59 AM I've downloaded as Jon & Jeff cite. The latest firmware (v1.5.0.2-11582) is installed to my AP and the dongle has in-car updated as well.
However, when trying to flash it says "... communicating with ECU" ...... and I give up after 2 minutes of no further change of state. It has never taken very long before to synch up. Guess I'll try a bit longer.
To be continued .............
MazdaManiac 10-11-2009, 09:21 AM Unplug it, cycle the key for 10 seconds, plug it back in, turn ign to "on", try again.
Also, make sure your battery is providing at least 11.2 v or more when its just sitting there with the motor off.

Unplug it, cycle the key for 10 seconds, plug it back in, turn ign to "on", try again.
I had the same thing happen to me Huey52.
Do what Jeff said... that's what worked for me.
Huey52 10-11-2009, 10:44 AM Eureka!! Thanks Gents!
L337fpc 10-11-2009, 11:11 AM My AP froze while updating... I gave it 10 minutes then I unplugged it. Now it still says "Updating"... what the hell.
MFslacker22 10-11-2009, 11:35 AM My AP froze while updating... I gave it 10 minutes then I unplugged it. Now it still says "Updating"... what the hell.
mine did that too. Restart the AP updater and plug it in and press update.
Z0oMzo0m 10-11-2009, 12:33 PM idk, i went to the link that JON posted up few post back. I had trouble updating through the program itself also.
Then i went to car and it updated dongle, i tried to shortcut and unplug the accessport itself when it asked to unplug dongle. so it wouldnt connect to car.
but unplugging dongle "like asked" worked for me!!
All i can say, is this last tune i received is "amazing"! the car feels sooo much better with this 3rd tune :) THANKS!
L337fpc 10-11-2009, 01:43 PM mine did that too. Restart the AP updater and plug it in and press update.
Good Call, its updated now. Win!

L337fpc 10-11-2009, 05:51 PM AP works now and so does the Map. Its all good in the hood.
MazdaManiac 10-11-2009, 07:36 PM I'm glad its sorted. Hopefully for everybody - I'm still waiting to hear from the Europeans.
Works in the US, JDM and Australia so far.
Keep the logs coming.
nc.wiles 10-11-2009, 09:55 PM Will the original map work or do we need to submit new logs?
Huey52 10-12-2009, 05:41 AM What a great tune!! With little traffic on this semi-holiday I flew in on my early morning commute. Smoothest operation ever. Thanks very much MazdaManiac - well worth waiting for!!! :)
MazdaManiac 10-12-2009, 10:01 AM Will the original map work or do we need to submit new logs?
The most current in your online MazdaManiac download folder will work.
If you already downloaded it, that file is now compatible (once you update your firmware).
MFslacker22 10-12-2009, 01:05 PM Jeff,
I just sent in my new logs and got an email back saying i didnt submit the answers to the 11 deadly questions, but I did. So, i figured something happened in the email so i resent it with the 4 logs as well as the 11 questions. Hopefully it worked.

How did you answer the questions?
They MUST be in the text of the e-mail.

Yeah they were. I sent them the exact same way I did my first submission which is weird.

Hmm. Dunno.
Hund is pretty picky and there is a fairly exact model of how the submissions are supposed to work based on the instructions.
I'll find out what happened by tomorrow. Its a holiday today.
Jasonawojo 10-12-2009, 10:08 PM E-mailed a set of logs over the weekend. I think after one more adjustment my car will be running absolutely perfecto!
MazdaManiac 10-12-2009, 10:25 PM ITS A HOLIDAY!
Hund will be back on track tomorrow.
Thanks.
MFslacker22 10-12-2009, 11:06 PM On average, how many calibrations do people usually get before their car is running perfectly?
FazdaRX_8 10-13-2009, 04:18 PM when a person does the WOT pull from 3000rpms, to redline then change gear slow to 3500 rpms then pull again, do you want this "slowing" to be applying the brakes or let the engine slow down naturally?

MazdaManiac 10-13-2009, 05:24 PM Doesn't matter. Whatever is safe in traffic.

4 or 5 for N/A, 5 to 11 for FI.

alz0rz 10-14-2009, 03:12 PM MM, I've been curious...
The DTC's you block with your calibrations.. do you have the misfire code's masked? So if one were to misfire while running your calibrations.. we'd never know?

The DTC's you block with your calibrations.. do you have the misfire code's masked? So if one were to misfire while running your calibrations.. we'd never know?
Believe me, you would know!
The misfire code is a lot like the knock sensor - it will trip and react to everything BUT what it was designed to sense.
I've tuned many a car that had horrific stumbling and misfires and not a single P0300/1/2, but I see many, many bone-stock cars return that code with absolutely no actual misfire.
Its essentially just a noise sensor for the ESS, just like the knock sensor is actually a bad motor mount sensor.
nc.wiles 10-15-2009, 07:54 PM Just got my first custom tune installed and took it for a test drive. Its great! So much smoother through the powerband.
When I go to do my next logs, do I do the logs on the custom tune or again on the base calibration tune?
Thanks.

Yep!:ylsuper:
nc.wiles 10-15-2009, 08:41 PM Perfect. Thanks!
I can not wait to see what the next tune does. Is there usually as much of a difference from stock to the first tune as there is from first to second tunes?
alz0rz 10-15-2009, 09:00 PM When I had my AP on my first RX8, it took me 3 calibrations to get my fueling and trims correct before MM made the adjustments for the "performance" tune.
Make sure your logs accurately represent what you are being asked to log and you'll get through the process efficiently.
Don't expect power immediately.
MazdaManiac 10-15-2009, 10:43 PM Unfortunately, it is a gradient, so don't expect to feel massive improvements from one update to the next.
The best way to feel what you have gained is to go back to stock after we are done (probably by your 4th or 5th iteration) and compare the difference.
(Unless you are FI, in which case going back to stock would be a very bad idea! lol)

Lemme quote the shipping details here AGAIN, so they can be on every other page of every single thread discussing the AccessPORT.
Orders are processed in the sequence in which they are received. Orders will typically ship within eleven (11) business days from receipt of payment.
Shipping times vary by destination. Shipping is by UPS to the USA and USPS to all other locations.
ALL PURCHASERS **MUST** PROVIDE A VALID E-MAIL ADDRESS (NOT A GOOGLE-PROVIDED E-MAIL ADDRESS) TO RECEIVE THE MAZDAMANIAC CUSTOM CALIBRATION SERVICE. FAILURE TO DO SO WILL RESULT IN NO CALIBRATION INSTRUCTIONS, UPDATES, SHIPPING INFORMATION OR FURTHER INFORMATION!

Mr.Rexx 10-19-2009, 12:16 PM It been extacly 2 weeks since I ordered my AP from MM. Why wouldn't you answer any of my e-mails? Is that how you treat your Customers? I understand that you busy, but simple order confirmation would be nice. I just checked and after 14 days my order is not even shipped yet! I'm seriously frustrated. Yes, I did read your website looking for some answers and Yes, I did what ever I was told to do on Google checkout... I just don't see any reason - why wouldn't you reply to any of my e-mails.
Jedi54 10-19-2009, 12:19 PM Relax Mr. Rexx
You should have gotten an automated confirmation from your google checkout that your order was processed. Keep in mind that MM doesn't have a garage full of AccessPORTs, he has to order it from Cobb and then redirect it to you.
11 business days is what it takes to ship so you'll get it soon.
As for lack of communication, just look at how crazy this thread is with millions of questions.
Now imagine what his email box looks like and how many PM's he gets through the various forums he's active on.
I know it's not fun to wait but know you're not being ignored nor did you fall through the cracks, MM is good for it and it'll all be worthwhile once you start the Calibration process
Mr.Rexx 10-19-2009, 12:21 PM I'm really trying... :)
Mr.Rexx 10-19-2009, 12:25 PM Oh well, I guess I just wait. Thanks Jedi!

You were re-sent your update on October 5th.
Over-boosting is gonna be a boost controller issue, unless you have a mechanical issue like a cracked vacuum line or bent/misadjusted actuator arm.

Hmmm... I just checked every folder (include spam/trash etc) and I have nothing from you since Sep. 10th where you sent "Received." Could you please resend?
The overboosting has actually spawned a thread of its own: http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=183839&page=2
I'm completely yanking the EBC from the equation next because even with it off completely I'm getting 12+ PSI. I checked the actuator and it travels fine. My biggest question for you though is; do you need a new set of datalogs if I modify the boost controller settings? I'm trying to get this overboosting issue resolved and I didn't want you to waste time modifying the tune if that was the case. Obviously any suggestions related to the overboosting problem itself would be appreciated to.
Jon316G 10-19-2009, 06:34 PM blackenedwings- Did you check your direct download link for the calibrations?
I see you have the base map and the 4.0.1 map in there.

Thats funny, youre over boosting and Im under boosting! Im only getting 4psi on v4.0.2. Not sure if my exhaust is just bad ass or Im leaking somewhere. I checked all the couplers and hoses and they seem secure. When I put the wategate actuator on, I remember that it was all the way to the right with one thread showing, which if Im correct is the tightest it can go. car bucks pretty bad in higher RPMs. Should have logs to you tomorrow.

Oh... figured if Jeff completed the 4.0.2 map he would have posted it on the direct download link. :dunno:
blackenedwings 10-19-2009, 07:06 PM Well the over or under boosting is not tied to the tune... it sounds like you either have a leak or you are opening the wastegate early. Are you getting wastegate flutter?
PhantomRX-8 10-19-2009, 07:55 PM I know its not directed at the tune but this is the first time ive been able to go WOT so this problem is new for me. Im not too sure what wastegate flutter is but it seems to have a pretty strong reading on the boost gauge when it hits 4psi around 5,000 rpm. My gauge does flutter at idle though, not sure if thats tied to the wastegate or not. When I put my injectors in, I had to take the front of the VDI apart, that only goes together one way right? I didnt actually take anything off, just had it apart, and was thinking making that wasnt opening and causing the low boost symptom....

Yup.
Instead of Jeff sending our maps to us through email, we are sent a "direct download link" so we can download our map.
We can also use the link to check for new maps since sometimes email gets "lost" by server filters and other unknowns.
waterproofone 10-19-2009, 10:20 PM I am needing some help. I got my AP back from COBB because i was having some problems updating it. I had already sent it by the time I found out COBB broke Jeff's software and thought I had a problem with the unit. I got the AP back today..with the 105 firmware..but NOW it will not connect using the AP manager or updater..It's dead in the water. Ok I have had this thing for 3 months and have yet to really use it. I have uninstalled the drivers for it..uninstalled the updater and manager sofware about 5 times..reboot and reinstall everything.. NOw the damn unit will never even say connected to the computer.
ANy help??

I've been assembling a folder tree on my site.
I want to be able to send people links instead of files. I think that will fix the problem for most since its the attachment that probably triggers the SPAM filters.
NOW it will not connect using the AP manager or updater..It's dead in the water.

waterproofone 10-20-2009, 11:20 AM Called COBB..there is a problem with the unit.. dur.. Back it goes to COBB again..
3 months and out,, have to send it in each time ? What's the deal..replace the dang thing.
MazdaManiac 10-20-2009, 11:27 AM Hmm. That's a new firmware that I know nothing about.
Try unchecking the "beta" box on the updater.
waterproofone 10-20-2009, 11:31 AM Thanks Jeff,,it makes no difference..this damn thing has been a F*&$ing problem since I got it. I wish they would just replace it or do what they need. It's not doing a bit of good sending it back and forth.
Just frustrated..have tons on my plate for the last month or two and this just brings more headache.
T
MazdaManiac 10-20-2009, 11:47 AM Well, the thing is, if they send it back its because it works when they have it.
They won't just throw parts at it and send it back to you.
When it clears their bench, it communicates and flashes properly.
So something is happening at your end. Not saying its your fault particularly, just that there is something going on once you try to use it.
waterproofone 10-20-2009, 12:49 PM well if it's something on my end..I'd damn sure like for someone to be able to show me what it is. They updated the firmware but I'm telling you the thing WILL not work on any computer I have tried. It locks up and refuses to use any updater or manager. I have been working with computers for over 10 years now..have a bachelors in telecomm.. I do tech support for a living. I could be wrong but I will bet something is wrong with the thing. They have tools for force a firmware update..doesn't mean it's going to just work when it comes to me. I deal with this every day with computers.
I have gone over everything with them..they stated something is wrong with it.
back it goes..tired of trying. waste of my time is what it is.
MazdaManiac 10-20-2009, 02:15 PM Send it back to me. I'll take care of it.
waterproofone 10-20-2009, 02:45 PM Send it back to me. I'll take care of it.
I really appreciate it Jeff. I am going to give COBB one more try to fix the problem.
I have gone over possibilities over and over of what could be wrong and it all points to a faulty board or something. It connects to the car and works fine but for some reason it's a no-go on a computer. It just refuses to interact with any system. It doesn't matter if I open the mgr or the updater first, or if i plug the AP in first or last and hit connect. They all time-out and or give error codes. I have tried checking and unchecking each and every option, uninstalling the 2.0 driver in the device mgr, and going through the registry also. NO luck.
I would rather you work on my tunes if you would..I will even pay you if need be during my free time period with you. I don't want to bother you with this stuff..it's their product, I just need it to work.
I will hit you up if it comes back again not working. The only thing I can tell is with it is that it's a little slower transferring data when plugged in the car, and it acts weird and one time out of 30 tries, it flickered the initializing screen and it never did it again.
Something is messed up with the board or processor or such. I'll be in touch.
Thanks Jeff!
Ty
MazdaManiac 10-20-2009, 03:20 PM That does sound like a hardware issue, but it could be the dongle or the cable also.
Just keep me informed.
Sorry about the issues.
Out of 400 and something AccessPORTs out there, only a few have had hardware issues and nearly all of them ended up being user error, so it will be interesting to see what happened to the hardware on this one.
MFslacker22 10-25-2009, 09:38 PM Any status on recent tunes?

Jeff,
Talked with COBB today..they stated the unit is on its way. When they got it ,,it locked up for them too so they had to reprogram it a couple of times before it would interact with a computer.. They stated it is good-to-go after 2 rounds of testing and programming. I truely hope so... I like using it and hate sending it back and forth. Crossing my fingers ..............
Z0oMzo0m 10-27-2009, 08:51 PM Since the the last update where the dongel updated in the car, My accessport doesnt loose its connection when i turn vehicle off. Before it would lose communication, now the screen just freezes to w.e was on it. I then restart the car and it stays frozen until i unplugg then replug back in.
Any ideas?
Derex'8 10-27-2009, 11:28 PM Hey Jeff I need to know if I'm still in my Custom cal service, as I haven't received a final or proper tune yet, (due to blown engine) but I sent you a email in regards to this, but to sum it up the problem was the tune itself, I verified this thorugh not only uninstalling the AP, but also reinstalling and flashing various stock (NA) maps.

I'm not sure I understand what you are verifying with a NA calibration.

Gone bad or just need cleaning?
MazdaManiac 10-28-2009, 02:01 PM There seem to be some scaling issues.
He might have the size and order of the injectors wrong (compared to what he has listed as in his answer to Deadly Question #8).
Derex'8 10-28-2009, 04:40 PM It's the wiring, the middle injectors were crossed with each other. I fixed everything and proceeded to reinstall it all back, start up car and guess what now I have a damn fuel leak!!!:banghead::banghead::banghead: Will disassmeble everything again in the morning, right now I have a major migrane....
Jeff Could you send me that color coded injector wiring diagram to my email
or could someone verify if this is right?

Huey52 10-29-2009, 06:16 AM Leave MM alone. He has to finish my latest tune before I'm forced to 'upgrade' to Windows 7 and [probably] won't be able to download it! :(
MazdaManiac 10-29-2009, 11:29 AM A block of calibrations are going out tonight.
Might be all of those in the current queue, but I'm not sure.
Jasonawojo 10-29-2009, 10:43 PM If you wouldn't mind, can you post up if all of the current queue went out or not after you send them out? After not getting the confirmation e-mail, I'm not trusting my e-mail :suspect:
MazdaManiac 10-29-2009, 11:54 PM I'll post up that they were sent, but I don't like to list individual names here for a number of reasons.
I will specifically contact you, though. I know we've had some issues before.
Jedi54 10-30-2009, 12:12 PM Huey brings up a good point: Jeff, any idea if those upgrading to Windows 7 will have issues with the AP software?
My laptop (which I use for this stuff) still runs XP and I'll probably upgrade that to Vista just for the hell of it.
MazdaManiac 10-30-2009, 12:27 PM I'm running the software on a Win7 box in the living room and it works fine.
Jedi54 10-30-2009, 12:28 PM cool, one less thing to worry about.
Gracias

MazdaManiac 10-30-2009, 04:27 PM no but i sent it in twice and still got nothing, ill re send it again
Usually, if you get no confirmation, it means either you sent it to the wrong place or you didn't follow directions.
I'll check with Hund and see what happened.
Huey52 10-30-2009, 04:37 PM Excellent; I'll go ahead with the install. Thanks!

MazdaManiac 10-30-2009, 04:52 PM MFslacker22 - Hund says you received a confirmation message. Check your e-mail.
So, sit tight.
If you resubmit, it will keep pushing you to the back of the line.
waterproofone 10-30-2009, 06:32 PM Jeff, I have a little problem and at my wits end here. I just got my AP back today after sending it back and forth for the last month.. I get it back and LOW and BEHOLD..it doesn't work again. It will NOT update again, but it WILL work with my computer now..however I cannot install it on my car again. The 4_0_1 calibration that worked on my car before is once again, GRAYED OUT.
What in the hell do i have to do to make this thing work? i am about ready to give up and send it back for a refund that is how pissed I am getting here. This 700 piece of crap is useless to me.
Can you PLEASE, PLEASE help me out ? any ideas?... This unit is right back to square one,,locking up and will not update and now it will not install on my car either..so it's worse than when I sent it off..what is the f**k does someone have to do with this COBB company to get them to fix it or REPLACE THE MOFO?
seriously f**king fed up
waterproofone 10-30-2009, 07:05 PM Jeff, I will need you to send me an email to tfortier77@aol.com
with your address and such.
I want this unit replaced or I want my money refunded. Not trying to sound like a jerk but this thing is a royal piece of shit. Cobb must think this is funny by me having to send it to them..they have to keep screwing with it to get it to work on their end and then they send it back like everything is A-OK.. and it's not.
If you cannot replace it or find out why it will not work ,,I want a credit for the amount I paid.
I am not going to waste another day f**king with COBB telling me to send it in again..I specifically asked them to replace the unit since it has a problem but what did they do? downgrade the firmware instead of upgrade it like last time and then send it back to me. It has been back to them twice, once out of my own wallet.........Now it is dead in the water and it has been to them twice with no luck in fixing it:mad:.
I've had it- since they downgraded the software, it will not work with calibrations on my car and now it will not connect to any computer again.
waterproofone 10-30-2009, 07:19 PM Here's the next update,
Now that the unit locks up with any computer again,,it HAS started interfacing with my car once again. Looks I got some shit unit someone made with spare parts that were sitting in water or some shit.
Cobb has basically been useless in the whole matter. Even with the company I work for,,if someone buys a product and it gives problems from day 1 and it has to keep coming back in..it just F**King gets replaced. What is the big deal. Take another out of stock and replace it, for jesus H sakes, why make someone go through this shit?
COBB=inept

MazdaManiac 10-30-2009, 09:10 PM Jeff, I have a little problem and at my wits end here.
First - Calm Down.
Second - I told you BEFORE you sent it back the last time to send it to me. What was so hard about that?
Third - Carefully read your purchase agreement.
Fourth - I guarantee you that the problem is with your computer. I can assure you that Cobb is not screwing with you. We have HUNDREDS of these things out there and problems like you are experiencing are always something to do with the user's computer.
Like I said: SEND IT TO ME. I will verify that it works and we can move on from there.
Mr.Rexx 10-30-2009, 09:36 PM Finally got my AP Today! I just finished the installation of the base calibration and I took it for a few minute ride. Everything was nice and easy BTW. It's got be your comp. Waterproofone! Did you to run it on a different computer?
Anyways, Is it me, or the car already feels more responsive and smooth? I didn't push it to hard(over 4500), but low tq seems to be improved... (maybe it felt that way, because I drove Saturn-commuter for the past few rainy days...) :)
alz0rz 10-30-2009, 10:14 PM The base map doesn't have any performance improvement.
You are more then likely feeling some pep as the car is rebuilding trims and/or a placebo.

I am doing my best to be calm.
How can it be my computer when it DOES THIS ON 3 different systems that worked previously? When I first got it ,,it worked fine. Then I had already sent it by the time you knew COBB messed up your programming. They updated the firmware to that 1.5.0..or something.. and ever since then it has been locking up.
Dude I am telling you, it locks up for them too. They even said it has a problem, why they just don't replace it i have no clue.. I am going to send it to you...
Yes i read my purchase agreement..but laws like this do not apply to NON-working new items. ..Warranty or not, you can't sell a new car that doesn't run and then take the money from someone too... No matter what written warranty says. You cannot take monies for a non-working item when it is expressly sold as a new item. Cobb should have already replaced the thing. it has a manufacturer warranty.
All due respect ,,seriously, Please understand I am totally willing to work with you but place yourself in my shoes. I am out 730.00 bucks.. BASICALLY for nothing????????? correct?
I mean I have YET to get this thing up and running since ? August 21st I think is when I ordered this.
what would you do? Who has 700 bucks to flush down the toilet.
Im tired of taking lunch breaks at work to send this thing back and forth.. Im telling you the thing is defective. It worked when I first got it..then after they updated it ..it hasn't worked right since. Either I can use it on the car..or on the computer..BUT NOT BOTH??
When I got it back today, it worked with the manager but I couldn't do anything with my car with it..so had no choice but to run the updater with NO CHECK MARKS on anything.. that caused it to lock up again. Now it won't work with xp, vista or windows 7(yes i know it's not supposed to work with 7). Cobb needs to get their act together for programming and such..this is just a game of cat and mouse sending it back and forth.
Please email me with your address so I can send it in..............................

Damn! I could swear... :)
MazdaManiac 10-31-2009, 12:31 AM Damn! I could swear... :)
You might be feeling something.
If your car's OMP output was low, the increased output of the base calibration would raise your dynamic compression a bit and could make quite a difference.
It is likely that it is just the reset fuel trims, though.
waterproofone 10-31-2009, 12:41 PM Jeff,
Since as I stated i can use the AP with my car but not interface with any computer and the firmware is on the 1.5.0.2..
When I ship the AP to you, do you want me to have the AP uninstalled from my car or does it matter?
Like I stated, it keeps reverting to the 1.5.0.2 firmware that allows me to USE the 4_0_1 calibration you sent but also disables it from working with a computer.
Ty
Mr.Rexx 10-31-2009, 04:06 PM Whatever that is, is definitely noticeable. I drove it again this morning and responsivnes and low end tq was better.
Question: Can I start driving it normally(4-9K rpms) after the initial 2 drives and data-logs?
Jedi54 10-31-2009, 04:56 PM Rexx: as long as your car is idling smoothly and the fuel trims seem stable, yes.
Mr.Rexx 10-31-2009, 05:49 PM Cool! Thanks Jedi! :)

not to belabor a point, but if you've installed a program / peripheral on one machine, it's likely you installed it on multiple machines. This one program / device could change a setting that until now made no difference in your daily life. I'm not saying it's something you did, per se, but I've seen it enough time with various USB devices that I know it can and does happen.
I have one computer that swears my Ipod is actually a thumb drive meant to boost the load time of vista. I've tried everything to change it but no dice. Anyway, it sounds like things are getting taken care of so i'm happy it's going to work out.:grouphug:

I understand completely what you are saying.
We have the same problem at work with thesel intra-oral cameras we sell to the the US army and dental offices..and some OS's see the camera as a sound device because they failed to put the correct chip in it to be strictly recognized as a usb camera. The problem is easily fixed by updating the driver by pointing the correct driver in the application's folder in windows.
In this case, it makes no difference if i use the cobb access port driver 2.0 with a release date of 2006 or 2.0w/release date of 2009, if i use xp, vista or windows 7, this firmware 1.5.0.2 they updated it to has a problem interfacing with computers. Let's just hope MM/Jeff can figure it out.
Cobb has too many points of failure. They need to have ONE and only one program that interfaces with the AP and does its own updates because now, with all these different tools, firmwares and applications, they are bound to have conflicts like this.
it's simple, start reducing the number of possible failure points by emlimination of the uneccessary.

Just keep in mind:
You are the ONLY person out of nearly 500 that is experiencing this problem.
Be prepared for the outcome of that evaluation, which will be documented in depth, regardless of the outcome.

This simply is not true. I was just on the COBB forum yesterday and the day before reading about others having the same problem. The computer not interfacing with it. Regardless, I have done nothing wrong with it. it worked when I got it, then it was shipped to cobb BEFORE i learned of anything going on with EVERYONE's calibrations befing grayed out..ONCE I GOT IT BACK,,it stopped working with computer.
I am not trying to argue..clearly stating FACTS. I am not the only one having this issue. It may have been resolved for everyone else..but not yet for me. Let's not get in a pissing match, cobb even stated it kept locking up for them. Just expect the device this week and you can see for yourself.
MazdaManiac 11-02-2009, 08:26 AM Jeff, this simply is not true. I was just on the COBB forum yesterday and the day before reading about others having the same problem.
There was ONE other person on that forum that was having a similar (but not identical) problem (NRoberts), he is not a MazdaManiac customer and Cobb resolved his problem already over two months ago (old firmware).

Ok.. and I read he was using the 1.3 firmware..the very same they sent it back with.that did not work for me....then when i plugged it up, it reverted to the experimental 1.5.0.2 again.
MazdaManiac 11-02-2009, 09:03 AM ...then when i plugged it up, it reverted to the experimental 1.5.0.2 again.
There is nothing "experimental" about it.
That is the most current firmware.

waterproofone 11-02-2009, 09:17 AM There is nothing "experimental" about it.
That is the most current firmware.
you told me once they had a beta 1.5. that you knew nothing about unless I misunderstood you.
Huey52 11-02-2009, 09:19 AM ^ Give it a rest already!!!

I'm sure your stuff will be fine. It may be a soap opera to you..but remember that my unit is not functioning.. Even though it may be trivial to you, but it's a major problem for me. Even though it may piss people off, remember I paid for a unit same as everyone else. I am not trying to cause a problem, just trying to figure out why it keeps freezing. I used the links on the MM page to download the most recent versions of the updater and mgr.
peace
Huey52 11-02-2009, 09:50 AM What's to figure out? Send the unit back as instructed.
I do sympathize, as we all want things to work for which we lay down significant hard earned dollars. Unfortunately sometimes they don't and again in this case you have a ready solution.

Dude..chill..I already shipped it. calm the F**k down..you have 2400 posts..i have 32.. it's shipped..I can have a conversation on here if i want. so go spin on yourself.
Huey52 11-02-2009, 10:02 AM And about 75% of your 33 posts are in this thread [and of no value add to the community] I'm really not all that spun up, just noting an amazing amount of MM's time consumed that imho could be better spent by his working the numbers as it were.
Hopefully your new unit will work fine for you.
FazdaRX_8 11-02-2009, 11:53 AM yes i want my tune before it snows here in north idaho... mind you we had a dusting last week :scared:
Jasonawojo 11-02-2009, 02:10 PM I'll post up that they were sent, but I don't like to list individual names here for a number of reasons.
I will specifically contact you, though. I know we've had some issues before.
Oh, yeah no worries. I just want to know at what point I should contact you if it doesn't show up. Sounds good :)
Jon316G 11-02-2009, 06:29 PM Just an FYI... I had issues with my AP and my laptop yesterday.
I upgraded my laptop to Win7 and the AP wouldn't connect.
The laptop made the "chime" indicating that it knew something was plugged in, but the AP Manager wouldn't recognize it.
The AP also showed up in the Device Manager as something like "Lil-USB..." or something like that.
I uninstalled the AP Manager, AP Updater, and the AP driver.
Then I went onto Cobb's website and downloaded the most recent programs/drivers.
After installing those programs my AP still wouldn't connect like before.
So I went into the Device Manager and told it to update the driver for the AP (allowing Windows to search for it).
Then I noticed something interesting... the driver was now listed as something different instead of the "Lil-USB..." category.
I'm not at home now to tell you exactly what the Device Manager has it listed as now, but I was able to open the AP Manager and recognize the AP device.
Not sure if this was helpful and I really wish I could remember more detailed what occurred.
Maybe when I get home I'll try to simulate it again and post up screen shots for anyone else with similar issues.
But simply telling Windows to update my AP driver actually worked :dunno:
MazdaManiac 11-02-2009, 06:38 PM Its important that you install the latest AP Manager and let it update the AP drivers.
There are sometimes conflicting versions of the drivers embedded in the various installs.
I know I had a connection problem with the AP Manager when I reinstalled WinXP on this box this week, but then I remembered to install the newest AP Manager and that wrote new drivers (the old drivers were listed as being in the wrong language - German - and it asked if I wanted to update).
User error. lol
[Its "LibUSB-Win32 Devices" and "AccessPORT 2.0" in the device manager. Driver version should be 0.1.12.0.]

I'll have to give this a shot Jon. I didn't want to add fuel to the fire but I have a single machine at home that has been refusing to connect to the AP via the update manager. It's a Windows 7 Machine. However, my living room media system running Windows 7 was able to connect and update my AP to the latest firmware without any problems.
The manager would connect no problem, but the updater wouldn't. After performing the update I couldn't get the manager or updater to talk to the AP on my trouble machine.
It's clearly localized to one computer so I'll try your fix and see what happens.
Jon316G 11-02-2009, 06:42 PM User error. lol
LOL.
That's why I hoped that uninstalling the AP driver (through Add/Remove programs) along with the Manager and Updater would eliminate any "user error" conflicts with updating to Win7.
But like I mentioned, even downloading/installing the latest program and driver didn't work.
Maybe when I "uninstalled" the driver, Windows didn't actually remove it and still tried to use the previous one?
MazdaManiac 11-02-2009, 06:43 PM YOU MUST DOWNLOAD THE NEWEST VERSIONS OF THE SOFTWARE FROM THE LINKS BELOW
DO NOT USE THE VERSIONS COBB PROVIDES ON THE CD THAT SHIPS WITH THE AP
Download the newest “AccessPORT Manager” HERE:
Current Version : 1.2.2.1 (http://www.accessecu.com/support/AP-Mgr-Setup.exe)
Download the new "AccessPORT Updater" HERE:
Current Version : 1.2.2.2-11434 (http://www.accessecu.com/support/AccessPORTUpdater.exe)

Did you have the AP plugged in as you installed the driver (like it instructs you to)?
Jon316G 11-02-2009, 06:54 PM Did you have the AP plugged in as you installed the driver (like it instructs you to)?
Yup... followed the directions like a good boy ;)
First I kept the AP plugged in the entire time, then (out of desperation) I kept it unplugged until it told me to have it plugged in before continuing.
Then I plugged it in and continued the installation.
And I could be wrong, but I thought I tried to install the program once before without having the AP plugged in and it wouldn't let me.
I actually had to have the AP connected. Memory sucks (obviously) so I could be wrong.

Jon's symptoms sound exactly like what I have been dealing with and there really wasn't anything different I could see between the two machines that would prompt one to connect to the AP but not the other. The AP would power up on the USB cord but there would be no "reconnect" option to connec to the PC.
I'll mess with it when I get home. It could easily be a weird quirk. I'm known for breaking electronics so this could be my touch of death.
