I am having a problem with my A/C in my 2004 RX8....

Just recently, i have noticed that when I turn on my A/C, after a few moments, my car begins to vibrate. After driving a while longer, my car seems to tremble and then turns off. My car will not turn on again after about two-five minutes.
Once I am to turn on my car with the A/C on the car continues to tremble, however the moment I turn off A/C, my car stops shaking and trembling and it drives fine... I live in Florida and A/C is a must...

Been to a few mechanics.... all of them give me different answers...
I would like to know if anyone has encountered this problem before and if so what caused it.

I took it to mazda dealer... they replaced fuel pump and some wiring... problem still exists.. now they are cleaning out the engine with a carbon (something... sounds like B.S. to me) mixture...

It seems they do not want to look any further.... so far everything has been under warranty....

Sounds like they are following some of the TSB's for poor engine power. It's legit, but i think they may be diagnosing the problem wrong.

Well..... the dealer is replacing the engine....

the tech who worked on my car, said he thinks the new engine will not solve my problem... but they are still going to take that route...

It really bothers me that dealerships seem to be replacing engines for problems that don't seem to require engine replacement "just because." I feel that there's probably a lot of cases where the engine wasn't actually bad, but the dealership replaced it anyway because they don't have a clue what they're doing. If it were me, I wouldn't let them replace the engine until I saw the compression results to show that the engine was actually bad. Considering the quality of the reman engines, I'd rather have my original factory engine if at all possible.

what lion said, tell them to compression check the engine first, before they replace it.

and then tell them to change the motor mounts.

after all that, if the problem still persists, then replace the engine. but i doubt very strongly that its the engine.

I will check up on them... and ask them about the compression results...

I went back to the dealer and asked them about the compression....

they explained that when the vehicle was turned on, the compression was normal until driving with the A/C on for about 20 minutes, ....... the car was unable able to mantain good compression which led them to believe that replacing the engine may be a good idea and next logical step...

well the results... after they replaced the engine, i drove the car for about 1 hour straight and driving it pretty hard..... the car did not shake and rattle like it used to... so maybe it was the engine...

I am just going to keep my ears open and see how long this lasts!!!
