View Full Version : MOP Injection Rate while Premixing

During many discussions here on Oil usage (MOP), I have heard many people state they have seen reduced oil usage, no oil usage, and even one stating their oil levels actually rose (I believe this was StealthTL) when they Premix.

So my question is - What could possibly be causing this?

Could the additional lubrication from Premixing (enhancing compression with less friction) be affecting some engine sensor that is causing the MOP to provide less oil as a result?

Does anyone know what exact parameters the MOP algorithm uses to see what might be causing less MOP oil flow (besides the obvious Load/Pedal Position/Vacuum and RPM parts) when Premixing?

The MOP has no feedback loop. It does its thing purely based on load.
Different experiences with MOP injection reflect a combination of different flash levels, driving styles, oil viscosities and engine condition.

I understand some variances are due to flash level, driving style, etc., but still think there is something more too this.

The way the MOP works as I understand it, is the ECU controls the "base" rate via the 2 electrical connections to the MOP (position sensor and ECU connector). Then the base rate is increased mechanically via the stepper with RPMs up to the maximum MOP flow rate.

What I am wondering is - what factors does the ECU use to adjust the 'base" rate? Is it just Load? or does it look at other parameters as well to set the "base" rate and maybe one of these parameters is being impacted by Premixing to cause a lower feed.

How would the ECU know there was oil in the fuel....think about it for a sec.....

Yes. Load only.
