Wish me luck guys....American Idol Season 9 Auditions
Hi guys,
Well....this year was the year to go out since the venue was so close. I'll be auditioning for American Idol Season 9 at the Rose Bowl on June 30, 2009.
What's my story?
I'm a 25 year old Asian male (6'1" 170lbs) that has probably had one of the more colorful pasts when compared with the other contestants on that show. My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2001. I didn't take the news so easily. Gangs, drugs, and violence was my outlet for all the problems I was going through at home. At the end of 2001, it finally took a bullet to get my head straight. I was shot at an intersection (while I was in my car). The rival gang member was aiming for my head. Luckily, I had my arm rested up on the door and the bullet hit my elbow (although now I have pieces of the bullet stuck in my bone and I no longer have a functioning elbow).
It was at that point that I realized.....my behavior was going to get me killed. I ended up going to church often to try and avoid reverting back to my former lifestyle. While participating in church, I learned that I'm not a bad singer....so I joined the Gospel choir....started getting more compliments.....so I entered a talent show....then won it....then I got scouted to record in Korea under a record label - Yang Goon Entertainment......missed home and also hated the politics involved with making music in Korea.....came back.....then I just went through the daily grind that everyone else does.
Fast forward to about 6 months ago.
My friends, family, and even former management kept calling me to tell me audition. So I said what the heck.....hired a vocal coach from California Music Studios (same teacher as Adam Lambert's teacher from Season 8 AI).
Now I feel REALLY comfortable with my voice, plan to sing my freakin' *** off, and hopefully......I can rectify a lot of the bad things I've done in the past. On top of that......I want to make my mom proud!
Look for me on there!

Thanks guys!
I have 3 song choices (because they told me to prepare 3 of them):
1st song choice: Superstar by The Carpenters (but I'll be covering Luther's version)
2nd song choice: Stay With You by John Legend
3rd song choice: Lately by Stevie Wonder
As you can see, I have a heavy R&B background from my old gospel days. Plus, I feel my strengths are tone, vibrato, and the ability to riff on the songs. I'm still practicing and working out the few "tricks" I'll be throwing in there....but I'll be taking the day off before and on the day of the audition to get situated and relaxed.
That's what has helped with my performances in the past. Take it easy and slow on the performance day, play games or something to get your mind off it, or hit the gym.
