Angry Venting - slashed tire

I am SO PISSED right now!!! I just got in my car after running some errands and my yellow tire pressure light was on. I drove my 8 home (less than a mile) and my rear tire was completely flat! I tried to fill it up with the repair kit, then realized that there was about a half-inch gash in the sidewall.

Either I drove over some really funky shaped thing in the road and was completely oblivious or some A#@HOLE slashed my tire!!! What the hell!?!?!?!? I thought people in SoCal were cooler than that.

Does anyone know how much a new tire is going to cost me? I'm currently using the stock tires.

Thanks for "listening".

You might be covered under the tire road hazard warranty. Pull the tire warranty out of your portfolio and call the dealer.

wow that just sucks, but here is some more bad news , the dealer does not honor tire warranties. you have to go to a tire dealer. ie someone who is an authorized firestone tire seller. like big o or something similar. tires are the worst thing to try to do under warranty.

Sorry to hear bout your tire. Shortly after I got my car I noticed a nail in the tire, it didnt run flat but it was leaking. I took it to a place and they did a good patch on it.

The 18" stock tire aren't cheap. I'd say at least over $120

Good luck !

Try $199 plus delivery fees and after that mounting and balancing...the $199 is from tirerack.com and they are the least expensive in the country.

If you have 3 others who would like tires, I have a set of 4 stocks for $100 each in the parts section. They only have 3800 miles on them.

Yeah, 3,800 is about 1/2 their life IMO, I just changed mine to Falkens, the dealer put them on free when I got the recall work done. I had the Bridgestones on since August with about 10,000 miles on them, it never snowed here so I didn't worry about it. Had them rotated about 7,500 miles and when I took them off, the ones that originally were in the rear but had been changed to the front were in practically bald.

I've heard some changing at 12K but not bald at 10K. Most have said they last until 15K The 12K member said that he was rather abusive to them.

The stock tires do wear pretty quick and have a low rating. I have over 12K on them now and I've learned it's especially critical on these tires to follow the rotation schedule in the book. I rode the car a bit more heavily after break-in and the back (now front) do show that extra wear. Not quite sure how many miles I have left on this tires but I am dreading the research to find a good/decent and hopefully relatively inexpensive replacement!!

A little drifting here and there on the stock wheels, so a little more wear. I ended up buying Falken Ziex's as they are all seasons with a high treadlife, got really good reviews, and I like a little slip. The Falkens are very quiet, I bought 245/40/18's, $135.00 each including shipping from tires.com, so far so good, I've hit the corners pretty hard and unless I pop the clutch or pull the brake, no slippage yet. Dealer as I mentioned put them on for free. I will probably post pics this weekend.

That would be about right. I heard the tires were $275 and I just paid $60 dollars to have a tire mounted and balanced. IMHO the dealer is a bit over priced.
