SocalRXClub Hangover Run 8 (01/01/05)
SocalRXClub Hangover Run 8 (01/01/05)
Well, the holidays are mostly over. The year is winding down and it's
raining. This could be a time to feel blue, wish for additional
vacation days, and ponder that gym membership renewal coming up.
**OR**
Look to the bright future of 2005! The best way to kick the end of
year doldrums is to plan on an AWESOME drive through scenic, sweeping,
hilly roads with a bunch of other driving enthusiasts! That's right, I
promise NO RAIN for the annual HANGOVER RUN! I say "pffft!" to the
weather forecasts for Southern California! This 8th Hangover could be
the best yet and once again the best attended FREE driving event!
This is a run which is passenger-friendly yet still has thrills for
all (such as the "signature" a 28% downgrade)! Thanks to the luck of
the Rose Parade, this run has also NEVER been rained out!
Let's beat the 2001 record of 133 cars! 2005 is THE GOLDEN YEAR OF
MAZDA! Start the positive energy with the Hangover Run! (Please
forward to all your Mazda friends and other e-mail lists/forums, too!)

HANGOVER RUN 8
DATE: January 01, 2005 (Saturday)
TIME: 12:30 pm Prompt
PLACE: Orange County Health Services
27512 Calle Arroyo
San Juan Capistrano, CA
HOST: Zack Broadbent, racerzack@aol.com, racerzack "at" aol.com
714.686.5398 C
BRING: A couple of dollars for parking at the break in Lake Elsinore.
DESCRIPTION:
The myth and legend has returned for it's eighth episode. This year,
the run is again limited to MAZDA VEHICLES ONLY. I'm also having us
start much later in the day since last year I really did have a
massive hangover from partying the night before (ugh!). Expect to see
mostly Miatas and RX cars, but hopefully we'll get more Protegés,
Mazda3s, and Mazda6s! The run will start with a casual drive along
scenic Ortega Highway, taking a rest in Lake Elsinore. The past few
years, our Elsinore rest stop has included a $1 per car facility use
fee, and we may again have to pay that or something similar (it could
always be more, so be prepared). After the rest stop, we'll hit some
awesome roads on the best part of the run, including the run's
signature 27% downgrade. The run will end at about 4:30pm in Temecula
for an early dinner. This is THE ONLY WAY to start a new year. It has
NEVER rained on this run (although it once started 2 minutes after the
run ended). Regardless, this run will be a "go" rain or shine.
DIRECTIONS:
Exit Interstate 5 at Ortega Highway (74) and head inland (from the 5
south, turn left). Go 0.2 miles and turn right at the light onto
Rancho Viejo. At the dead end/light, turn left onto Calle Arroyo. Go
another 0.2 miles and turn right into the Orange County Health
Services parking lot; if you reach a stop sign, you went too far. The
parking lot may appear small at first, but bear to the right and
you'll see it extends a long way behind some small office buildings.

I'd go but my 8 is in the shop for some warranty work and you said only Mazda's can go. Can you make an exception for my F-car?
You guys missed out. It was a good drive. There were over 100 Mazda's as you can see below from my makeshift panoramic. The best part was some lady in the middle of the road swinging her broom at us as we drove by (wish I got a pic of that). Oh yeah, the 3 rotor FD was very sweet.
