Gr8:
I've got the Escort Passport 9500ix.
RedFox was in my car when we were driving around Dozer's house and as soon as I got near the intersection the radar alerts me, "Red Light Camera ahead"

Rev: here's my old thread back when I had the 9500i. I upgraded to the ix as soon as it came out but the mounting hardware is the same.

I really should update that thread.

No false signals on the 9500ix. If you get the same alert 3 times or more (based on exact frequency and gps coordinates), the radar detector AUTOMATICALLY stores it as a false signal and will filter it out whenever you drive past that location. (ie; it won't trigger an alert in the future)
nikk: I wish these things were cheaper but the way I look at it, if it saves me from ONE ticket, I've gotten my money's worth. (and it's saved me from a few already)
check out escort's website or try looking around on radardetector.net Some people sell their used ones there for good prices

zumn: those can trigger alerts (usually K band) but the 9500ix has some cool features to minnimize that.
- Sensitivity is based on speed. ie; if you're driving 10 mph in a shopping center parking lot, odds are you won't even get an alert.
- the GPS will filter out those false alerts after a few times.
The way my Radar detector is now, I can drive to work, to my GF's, to home and NEVER once get a false alert. My RD has already "learned" all the false signals and stored them so they get filtered out.

It has some neat features though: the arrow that shows you where the signal is coming from is VERY popular. My thoughts on that though are, "wtf does it matter where the cop is?!" If I get an alert I hit the brakes, no matter what.
the V1 also has a 'bogey count' so it shows you how many signals it's picking up. Again, whether its 1 cop or 100 of them, I'm slowing down no matter what if the thign goes off with Ka band.
for a very long time the V1 had THE best range of any detector out there but recent comparisons show the 9500 beating it or at least being neck and neck with it. Given the cool GPS based features of the Escort, it wins (IMO) hands down every time.
OH, and I haven't told you guys the coolest feature yet. Every week I get an email from Escort with an updated Red Light Camera / Speed Trap database that I upload onto my RD so it always knows where the newest cameras are and alerts me when I get close to them. (just like it tells me about the intersectoin near Dozer's house)
zumn: FastRX8 has the V1 mounted just like I have mine and he loves it.
When we caravan'd out to Vegas in June, those cops didn't stand a CHANCE against us!
Jedi: 9500
FastRX8: V1
Ngo: 8500
Scremn: Bel Radar Detector.
We picked up a CHP on the side of the road 2.4 miles out!

Nikk: yeah man, it can be a worthwhile investment if you drive around a lot.
I've never gotten a speeding ticket and I'm hoping to keep it that way. My RD is just an extra tool in helping me avoid tickets.
As long as you don't rely on the detector too much, you'll be fine. Just be smart about when and where you speed, always be scanning the road ahead (because cops dont' always have their radars turned ON), and then you'll be in good shape.
I always feel bad for people who tell me, "Man, I just got my 5th speeding ticket. F This! I'm getting a radar detector!" I laugh because for people like that it won't help them.
