oil change they did, if not for the oil light coming on
i would not have known my cover was not on
for a while.
keith,i would to have taken some lake shots but my head
and neck was killing. i hurt my neck last nite almost did
not come but i thought how bad could it be.
it was not good but still had fun....

if you go to Tustin, talk to Bob (the service Manager) and tell him I recommended you.
They're currently working on Newcastle's car right now; new transmission should be installed in his car this week

tim had the dreaded combo.
he changed out his tranny fluid and
short shifter. the trans should
hold up no matter though.
what is happening to the cars
of today?? what happen to the cars
that took ten years to fall apart...

Tim fell victim to Royal Purple as well. I started seeing a pattern with all of the cars that were having transmission problems: Short Shifter and Synthetic Transmission Fluids.
I didn't want to believe that the shifter could be a source of the problems but MAYBE it was causing added stress to the synchros somehow....
After HOURS and hours of research, I realized something: Mazda changed their fluid recommendations on '06 + RX-8's! For 04 and 05, they recommended 75-90 GL-4 or GL-5 fluids.
GL-5 often has some additives in it to reduce friction (which is normally a GOOD thing) but some transmissions have soft metals in them; brass, etc which can be damaged by these additives. 2006 and later RX-8 manuals only list a GL-4 fluid as an acceptable fluid.
Not all RX-8's with Royal Purple have had issues but I am seeing a trend that SOME of them did not react well to the GL-5 rating. (Royal Purple is BOTH GL-4 and GL-5 certified)
Tim's car immediately had issues with gears grinding after putting in the Royal Purple and after much arguing with the dealership, a new transmission is being installed.
