Guy who had the top bid on the wheels said he can't buy them till next friday.
So he sent me $100 to hold them for a week and a half.

So they are either sold, or I just got an extra $100 out of the deal.


Now I am wondering if selling the car with the exhaust will be easier, or if I should go back to stock. (swap with Stephs dad)
For sure the short shifter is coming out, but the springs will stay in. I have the stockers, but the effort is not worth the $$$ I can get from them.

So the Beagle mobile is gonna be sittin stock at the next meet.
And if all goes well, it will be sold in a few months (After SSXI) to be replaced by 2 cars ; an N/A RX7, and a commuter car.

u should listen to NPR's tidbit (podcast) report on trading down vehicles re: MPG. it's pretty informative.

well, the gist of their story about early downsizing or trading up is that mathematically after taking into account all the costs of selling/ trading in your car AND the costs of buying /leasing another car you still lose bigger if you sell/ trade- MPG benefit or not.

in the end the depreciation during the first 3 years is still accelerated. and, if u trade or sell during or right after that period, u basically carried the blunt of all that loss for nothing- ie like running a marathon and giving up on the last lap. the accelerated cost of depreciation on a motor vehicle will far outweigh any short term MPG benefit- even if your car only gets 15 MPG.

at least that's what their financial experts said. i guess the only way it would be beneficial is if u got a really awesome sale price. like say you bought your car for $30k and sold it for $28k after 1 year. if the new car cuts your gas bill in 1/2- say from $3,300/ year to $1,700/ year, then u basically break even, just about. good luck finding someone who will pay $28k for a 1 year old car tho.

no pic of the trophy, who knows if and when I will even get it. I JUST picked up my last birthday win tophy (yeah the one from 07) on sunday. it took them a year to get it to me.

this time being as there was only 3 people in the class I am unsure if 1st place receives a trophy. any who, it wil fun, the car ran great! for the first time since I have owned it she run like she was "normal". the first couple times out it has been very unforgiving and very loose.

I dont knwo if the new sway bar is what made the big change, or if it was removing the frozen stock bar (likley both), but it now drives like a real car!

You guys do realize rglbegl's job has to do w/ cars, and he use to work in financing, right?
I'm pretty sure he's done the #'s, and figured out this is what he wants to do.

Also, the 3 people I know of who sold their 8 and "traded down" are very happy.
Sure they miss their car, but the $aving$ per month quickly filled the void left by the 8.

I'm fortunate enough to not have to drive the 8 every day, but if I did, I would spend 2 tanks a week. Currently that's $55/tank, $5700/year.
The Malibu Deanna drives goes through 5 tanks a month. Larger tank, so $55/tank of the cheap stuff. That $3300/year.
Then there's the small issue of the monthly payment. That also factors into buying a cheaper car.
If I don't include the savings on insurance, I could sell my car, I'm not upside down on the loan, by a $23k hybrid, and I would save about $5000/year.

 

I am not gonna be hurtin financially if I sell the 8. I am in it right, and even if I keep it I am still just fine.
What I am looking at is having 2 cars. One for Monday through Friday that get good mileage and has a great air conditioner. The other will be an RX7 that I can play with and not have to worry about having it half apart when I have to go to work on Monday. Then I can have my fun car, and my commuter.

The only thing that financially will be a bit more is the insurance. It is so cheap on the 8 that trying to get that rate with 2 cars is almost impossible.

I love my car. But this is by far the longest I have ever owned a car without selling. So part of it is just me getting ancy.

Loren.... thats a though question.... just going off looks, mystique (spelling?), and coolness, I would have to say I would go with the GT-R or R8.... then again if I wanted a REAL suto cross car, then I would go with the Lotus.

of course if I could afford the R8 or GT-R I would be doing track racing... in that case I would have to say that I would go with the GT-R.


Jake, there is nothing wrong with your reasoning. it amm makes sence to me. I am all about having the commuter car and having the toy.

my problem is I really need 3 cars.

I want the commuter car (Cobalt)

the weekend racer (the miata)

and the weekend street toy, something like a street driven rotary cruiser would be cool. like a convertable RX-7... cheap, I know it like the back of my hand, and it would be fun on the meets. nothing wild and crazy, just a fun good looking car.

 

rear the link casey very thurogh. i woudl take the GTR as well or the R8 then maybe the evo since the STI came in last and i like lotus but i do nto really want to own one.

Do what you want jake as long as it makes you happy, and dont worry about the meets they are more of an enthueist (sp) meet now

if i'm in my current financial situation, easy- i'd take the evo. reasonably priced and i'd expect total cost of ownership to be comparable to the 8 or about the same ball park.

if $ isn't an issue, then i'd take the r8. german engineering at it's finest. and, hey- it was partially modelled after the rx-8. who can argue with that?

p.s. all the sell/ trade dialogue was just purely conversation. jake knows what he's doing.

 

I was going to say, based on looks, the GT-R.
After reading the story, definitely the GT-R.
The Evo X is pretty impressive though. 3rd place and half the price.

The more I read about the GT-R, the more impressed I get.
I really didn't care for it at first, but now that the real world results are out, it's an awesome car, especially for the price.

the Viper.... it might just be to heavy and lazy in the turns???? a great car of course, but I THINK it might be more of a "I have money, look how big my engine is" kinda car.

Loren: that's one hell of an article. I might not like the looks but the GT-R demands respect when it comes to it's phenomenal performance.

 

i think the only car that migth be comparable to the GT-R that hasnt been tested is the corvette ZR1. I like the GT-R as well. come on Jeorge and join the crowd.

saw the GT-R at the la auto show. and, all i remember is the beautiful brunette model constantly having to get on her knees and push the podium, because the car was so heavy it would stop turning.

i "think" the car was silver.
