oil weight?

I live in PHX AZ and was wondering if any of you desert drivers had concerns with the 5w-20 oil used in the RX8? It's my first rotary and I have not heard any conserns related to heat and the RX8. What you guys think?

I have asked the service department about changing weight due to changing weather conditions (Yuma area) since I bought my 8 in November.....they told me I would be okay with the 5w-20......but I would be real interested to know what other service departments are saying......the temperatures down here stay well into the 100's...............

thanks for the reply. my understading is the oil sprays into the roto. I guess the oil could be as much as 275 degrees when operating so maybe 110 degrees is no big thing. Just able to spray better when first started.

Hello ice8

I live in vegas so are temps are the same. My service guy told me rotory motors work best with thin oil.

5w-20 is fine. I switched over to Castrol Syntec. I noticed less soot on the exhaust and idled a little better.
I'm not saying that everyone should switch to a syn-oil.
Last time I read on the fossil vs. syn-oil it was still undecied.
I do notice that the rotary engine runs better in cooler temps, so its more fun to drive in the morning.

I'm also in Phx AZ and am sticking with 5W-20 per Mazda Service. I also have less soot build up on my tips since getting the Greddy installed. More space to cover perhaps?
