Menlo Mazda is singing a new tune

Final report: Menlo Mazda had hordes of people drop by to check out the RX8 last weekend but maybe one or two buyers. That's it. One guy said he'd buy two but only at MSRP. No dice.

Now the owners are feeling the heat and need to sell 80 cars by thursday to meet their sales quota. They're at 65 right now. Yesterday evening Shawn called me up and offered the car and options I wanted at sticker. So now I have that yellow RX8.

They sounded pretty desperate so my guess is you could try to squeeze them for a couple hundred under sticker, especially if you wait until thursday. Good luck and thanks to all who helped me locate the car of my wife's dreams.

I hate to state the obvious. But...
What were they thinking in the first place?! I wonder if Menlo Mazda's owner is new in the business.

Oh well. It seems this is all working out better for us consumers.

Yep - Menlo has a new tune. I walked & got depo returned on Saturday when they refused to go for MSRP. Monday they called and told me the same story - this eve I took home a Blue 6MT, GT Nav with 6 Disc changer. Even got a few other very small concessions - so now's the time to deal with them...

MVCalypso, what small concessions did you get? Share with the board so others can benefit as well.

If you can only get straight MSRP from Menlo Mazda, go to Ray Causin at Marina Mazda in Capitola. He's been offering sticker from the very beginning and I'd like to reward him with more business for being straight up.

The car did not have the 6 disc from the factory and I wouldn't buy w/o it. They agreed to order and install one for factory 6 Disc invoice price + a bit for install - total is a tad less than 6 disc MSRP. (I keep single disc unit - I want it for backup and reverse engineering the stereo module interface). Also got agreement for limited time discount on accessories. Both of above in writing.

However, the "Discount" accessory prices are a tad higher than out of state web prices - so it's not worth much. Thats why I said "small concessions"...

Menlo Mazda has got to be the dumbest dealership. The guy you're probably referring that wanted two cars is probably me (PUR NRG) Just curious as how you found out about this? I walked into Menlo Mazda one week ago and saw at least 20 fully loaded 8's of various colors. I wanted MSRP for a Tit Grey (for best friend) and Winning Blue (me). Spoke to the internet sales guy who was nice, then spoke to the sales manager who was an idiot. He wouldn't budge on the $5000 markup price and insisted that they would not have trouble selling for that much due to the high demand of the cars. I told him straight up that I'm not willing to throw away my money for free like that and that I can get a much better deal elsewhere. I ended up walking out of there and told them "your cars will continue to remain on the lot with no buyers", and that they will call me later but it will be too late.

Immediately after, stopped by Putnam Mazda in Burlingame and talked to an incredible salesman in KINO CHU. This guy is the "man" Got a great deal on the two cars that I wanted, called my best friend to come over and we both finished our paper work and drove home in our new cars the same evening. If you guys want a great deal on 8's, Ask for KINO CHU over at PUTNAM and tell him that Russell and Alex sent you.

Menlo called back a few days later willing to negotiate a better price but I told them it was too late because I already got my cars and that they will continue to lose business if they continue to be greedy and price gouge =)

I have been enjoying my car for about a week now so I haven't been able to go to the forum to post. The 8 is above and beyond my expectation and well worth its price.

Pedro mentioned he had lots of nibbles that weekend but no one wanted to pay over sticker. By that monday he certianly wished he could have sold you those two cars at sticker, along with everyone else who was interested in one. Fools.
