Looking to buy in the L.A area
Hi all,
New to the board and I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good dealer around my area.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

galpins is alright. you just gotta be tough with them. let em know you're aware that the fair price nowadays is near invoice. they've got tons of em in stock, that as far as i know have been pretty much sitting there. be warned though, they work slow as hell, and their paperwork takes like 3+ hrs to complete which is just plain ridiculous.
I tried star mazda in glendale, but they didn't have nothin in stock.

Galpin will usually result in the best deal but, as stated above, it may take forever. If you know what color & accessories you want, do your homework at KBB.com or Edmunds.com to get the invoice price. After that, see if you can contact the fleet or internet sales dept by phone and make your deal that way. It may save you hours of waiting.

I had the same problem with Galpin. I live in the SFV so I went to Galpin to test drive it there. The car I wanted was on the lot at Browning Mazda (in Cerritos), according to the Mazda website. I told the sales guy that the Mazda website said that Browning had the one I wanted in stock and they said "Well, I guess we can try to do a dealer trade... we'll call them next week and see." I picked up my cell phone when I left the lot, called the sales manager at Browning Mazda and made a deal over the phone. Two hours later I drove to Cerritos and bought my car. Browning was also not fast at doing the deal. I sat there for 4 hours waiting for them to do the paperwork.... and I was writing a check for the car, not financing. I do, however, take my car to Galpin for service since they are the closest dealer to me. Galpin just seems so blasé about everything. I think they are just too big for their own good. Maybe I’ve just been spoiled by Lexus service with my primary car. Why can’t all dealers offer that level of service? It’s not that hard.

Price Paid
Just to pass on my buying experience. I live in the Antelope Valley, went to local dealer in October 2003 with a check, told them what I wanted and they had one.
I made them an Out the door offer and they came back with "No thanks, we have to much rapped up in it"
I said OK, and wife and I went to dinner. Came home about 3 hours later and a message was on the ansewer machine from guess who? The message said, "Come get your car"
I don't know if I got a good or bad deal, but I got and A/T , Velocity Red, front /rear spoilers, side skirts, cloth,(leather too hot in desert) fog lights etc blah blah blah. Hey its been fun, off the line its slow, but get the R's to 5000 and it rockets (or flying saucers) down the road.

cerritos was really good to me. even though other people had a bad experience there. The salesman was really nice and really knew his stuff. I got under MSRP and not much haggling done... he just said wat price do you want it at? i told him my number and he gave it to me after like only 4 minutes of haggling

Here is a bad experiance in the LA area at Star Mazda. Went to get that car and once I got there was told it had been "temp" sold to another guy, but i could get another car. Just not that one i wanted. So i left and got a call later on that "its a miracle" that car isnt sold, call back to deal again. Screw that. No way im getting that car now. Im waiting a week and getting the same car off a truck with no miles out in Riverside.
