u'll want something comfortable & safe if u'r driving 60-100 miles per day. la traffic is always unpredictable, and unless u go camping a few xs a month, u really don't need to have 3 cars. explorers aren't selling too great right on the used market. so, my suggestion is to try to unload it before the price bottoms out- add the $ u get for it to the $6k u already are budgeting for a new car, add some more by factoring in some of the $ you'll be saving each year by giving up the ford, and that puts u well into at least $15k budget for a nice eco car.

 

unless he needs the explorer to carry a lot of things or people.
