Do the driver training....and take it one step further...and take an advanced Teen Driving School....it will save you money in the long run...and prevent a lot of damage to the car you love

The best way to go faster is to fix the nut behind the wheel of the car.

Absolutely take the course. Many states give insurance discounts for drivers who go to driving school (which you'll need to afford gas, by the way). The driving course really hammers into your head the basic rules of the road, and even though it's boring as hell, you'll be a better driver for taking the class because it will teach you good driving habits. Things you might otherwise not think of, like watch for people in your blind spots, and never drive in someone else's blind spot. I know when I went to drivers ed (my parents made me go), I got to see some awesomely bad movies too.

In the scheme of things, It's a small amount of money and a small amount of time, to protect a much larger amount of money. Your car is worth 47 times the cost of the class.

As danno says. afterwards, you can go on to more advanced classes.

for a fifteen year old, i would require you to take the driver training course. no it is not boring, this is FUNDAMENTAL driving knowledge that EVERYONE on the road is suppose to know.

there are nuances about the rules of the public road that a lot of people simply forget about, or worse, teaching other people the wrong ways/rules, which in term makes for more dangerous drivers on the road.

$300 is chump change for doing it the right way

You are already making the mistake of believing you know all there is to know about driving a car.

You are one step away from being that person that other drivers scratch their heads and say "How the **** did that ******* moron get a license to drive?!?"

you should see some of the people who do pass the test.

right after my old roommate got her licence, she drove a van through a wall.

every bit of experience behind the wheel with an instructor is worth it.

let me pay you the respect of being blunt.

You're 15 years old and don't know anything about anything. Take every class on driving you can, read every DMV pamphlet you can get your hands on. Take as many advance driving classes as you can afford. As well as you think you can drive, I promise you that your 5 times worse then that.

Let's put it this way...

Easily most of the drivers in the United States are ignorant of dozens and dozens of actually basic car/driving/regulation topics. You are not an exception. Take the class and pay attention - there's all kinds of things taught that easily most of your classmates won't remember.

Congratulations you can turn a steering wheel and step on the gas and brake. That doesn't mean you're qualified to drive on the road with other people.

There are so many bad drivers out there today. Take the classes. They're the most important part of learning to drive a car. You'll learn more than you think and pick up many good techniques and rules. Driving is all about looking ahead and understanding what is happening around you quickly and communicating your intentions with other drivers. You learn this through classes and experience. This is the most important part of driving on the road with others.

You'll be glad you did it.

Then do what Dan said and take the advanced driving/crash avoidance classes and you'll be even better.

There are too many bad drivers on the road today that never took the classes and it shows.

If the Drivers Course saves your parents the angst of having to ride with you, it will be worth it (for them). The drivers, training that you get in school, teaches you the rules of the road and little else. Playstation wizards don't learn the practical physics of how cars feel while being driven. Nothing equals time behind the wheel.

I believe that advanced driver's training is a class you take at some racetrack and experience what it is like to take a car to the limits. I think they also teach you how to avoid accidents at high rates of speed, but I am not so sure about the course. I'm 17 and took drivers ed and drivers training. It was worth it because you will learn about things that you normally wouldn't even think about. Also, when you take the driving test, they will test you on all sorts of things so you have to do it all correctly, if you want to pass. One major mistake like not turning your head or failing to give the correct right away will probably be an automatic failure. The class was worth it since you get a discount on insurence. The insurance is very high for us teens, especially since we have sports cars, so every discount will help out. Also, in somestates, you can't get your license without the behind the wheel training. Don't make the mistake of not taking the class. Prove to other drivers on the road that you have the car you have because you are a better driver than them eventhough you younger. This will falsify the misconception that all teen drivers are bad.

I would search online for a local car club like: www.nwalfaclub.com. They will put on lapping days at a local track or training classes for a reasonable price. It's $100 at the NW alfa club here in Seattle and you bring your own car. I think Skip Barber is about $1500 but you drive theirs.

or search google with :advanced driver training and you get a whole bunch of stuff.

Geez I though all you teenagers were supposed to be good at internetting.
