I'm going to start planning 'RX' track days for those who may be interested. Primarily attending local CA tracks like Thunderhill, Sonoma Raceway, Laguna Seca and Willow Springs. All experience levels are welcome (club dependent).
Goal is to build a local tracking rotary community who share a love and enthusiasm for RX vehicles. I'll be gathering potential dates along with specific track rules and posting them soon. Contact me if interested.
I'll be attending Thunderhill 5 mile with SpeedSF this Friday 06/11. Should be an exciting day. Hope to see other rotary owners out there and feel free to come strike up a conversation
Almost an understatement to say that Thunderhill was a blast!
First time driving the 5 mile and with the connection, it's a HUGE track. Luckily there weren't many drivers signed up for the event so there was a ton of seat time. Full hour 'open' heat from 4pm-5pm, I drove about 50 min before my concentration started to waiver and decided it was time to call it (reminded me of my karting days as a young man when I'd do 'enduro' events). Driving at limit for extended periods of time is incredibly demanding. Went out with a full tank of gas, came in with 1/2. Rx8 ran like a champ imo. Thirsty little engine.
Bonus that one of my old friends is now a pro-am racer and instructor for the club and was kind enough to spend some time with me doing a bit of lead / follow. His MR-S absolutely rips (2100lb curb, 220whp) and he literally walked right past me. But I easily picked up a few seconds and definitely cleaned up my line.
I'm planning to go back out on either 06/19, 06/20 or 06/26. No preference at this time. Let me know guys, I was the only rotary out there.

I was gonna set up a meet for 8/7. Not sure for 8's day. The rx8 community has all but died here in the bay area, rx8's have become more rare than FD's. haha

If anyone would like to come out this Saturday evening for a rotary meet. It's mostly locals in the bay and folks from the south bay. Meets are often a good point to trade or buy and sell part if prearranged. Also talk stories.
