long story short, I got a 2004 automatic from my gf's aunt. She bought it new.
It has 158000 miles on it. All original, never been abused or raced.

The engine died so we just finished installing another one from a 2005 with 32000 miles.

But here's my problem...it won't start. It has the typical symptoms of a flooded engine. It ignites sometimes but just won't start.

At this point I am getting a bit exhausted...and could use some help. Even just moral support would be fine...

Is there any RX8 mobile mechanic available to come over to my house in SF?
Someone with a few spare parts (coil, etc) so we could swap and see where the problem is.

I would be willing to pay the right person to get it running properly.
Otherwise I may have it towed to Rotorsport in Santa Clara as I am running out of patience.

Thanks for any help or suggestion!

Christian

Triple check all connections and fuses - mainly the ones for the computer and fuel system

hard to say with out looking at it...

have you pulled the spark plugs and they're wet?

Was this engine running before you put it in? compression test? can you hear decent compression?

have you checked to make sure you are getting spark from all of the coils?

Was it a complete motor you swapped in or just a short block?

maybe a video of you trying to start it would help

Well its going to be a great car when you get her spinning again!

Fuel, air, spark. All the times I think something horrible has happened I usually find its either a huge vacuum leak, no spark or no fuel.

I had the same symptoms, but was fixed after I replaced the spark plugs and ignition coils.

nice. I've been thinking of getting the BHR coil kit and new plugs. Might try to get my hands on an accessport as well, if its really worth it.

If I could achieve results like that I might have to, I'll make my money back in no time, hahaha

It's 3/4 tank. It's mostly downhill, but I wasn't expecting to make it all the way home. I usually have to gas-up at Sacramento the last time I visited Reno.

Hi, going down to LA this weekend to look at an 2005 rx-8 Shinka edition. I know nothing (I'm a chick but that's no excuse :P) about rx-8's and would appreciate any and all advice on what to look out for when I check it out. Here's some specs: asking for $11k, 56K miles, AT, few scratches on front bumper, small door dings, 3rd owner.

HELP!!!

thx

make sure you have all the service records for it, then take it to a dealer to make sure all the TSB's have been done on the car.

all I can say is drive it for 30 mins to an hour let the car warm up , look at the oil on the dip stick is it clean / burned , check for records what maintenance the person has done. And if its a private owner always ask why are you selling it and gauge there body language when they respond. check everything power windows locks all the buttons tears in interior lights everything.

thats awesome if its in fact a shinka addition and I look forward to seeing pics but make sure it really is the shinka was a special edition and has very specific traits see link http://rotarynews.com/node/view/472

best of luck hope it works out

at Alterego, I know a guy at work who went there, he seemed really happy with them

At Tony, if you want to drive all the way to San Jose you can use my driveway. PM Easy E1, he did it on my car at the last so cal dyno day. There's also a DIY thread about seafoaming. If a couple people want to come on down we can do it on a Sunday and knock out a bunch of cars.

Speaking of which, there is another so cal dyno day coming up in February. I'll be driving down there if anyone wants to caravan.

nice!!!!! sounds like a plan I don't mind driving down there its an excuse to cruise.
I looked up easy_E1 he is in AZ but no worries its not that hard and if there is a group can put our heads together and connect the dots. I already know another 8 that needs the treatment lets see if anyone else wants to also would be fun.

if im in town during next dyno day im down to caravan think it might be at a point where im ready to see what the dyno brings

possible low compression. gettin about 12 mpg constant, 12city/15hwy. no, its not my lead foot, because i did follow my friend in a blazer for about 50 miles or so, san jose to hollister, it went down to about 3/4 tank, and we were going about 60-65 mph. i may have lost power too, but people agree, how would i know? since im a new owner, first one i ever drove, i may not know i have lost power... especially since my last car was an 01 sebring convertible, of course this car with less power than what it should have is better than my old car lol. but i already changed my sparks, plugs, coils.. didnt do the trick. so im onto new things now. got the car at 82k, now its at 84k. it was sitting in a tow yard for almost a year, if that makes a difference to any of the engine components.. and i fill it up with premium gas every time, no premix though.

its an awesome car, so i really want to get this taken care of asap
